This definitely sounds like something out of science fiction... will this be the inspiration for the next big space-pirate trilogy? A light sail designed using artificial intelligence is about 1000 times thinner than a human hair and weighs as much as a grain of sand – and it could help us create a spacecraft capable of reaching another star sooner than we thought. The Breakthrough Starshot mission to travel to Alpha Centauri – the closest star to our solar system – was announced in 2016 and invited researchers to design a spaceship powered by light. We are truly living in the beginning of a science fiction movie. Imagine telling someone a decade ago that we could catch a rocket—mid-air—with a giant metal stick. They’d probably call it science fiction, yet SpaceX has made it a reality! This is not just another milestone in aerospace engineering, but a revolutionary leap forward in space exploration. By catching rockets for reuse, SpaceX is fundamentally reshaping the economics of space travel. Each successful catch means lower costs, more frequent launches, and a future where space is more accessible. What we’re witnessing today is straight out of a sci-fi novel, but it’s happening now. A reusable rocket caught by a giant arm? It's like watching your childhood dreams come alive, and it sets the stage for even bolder advancements tomorrow. Hats off to Elon Musk and to all the incredible engineering minds for turning the science fiction into reality. In May of 2020, SpaceX made history as the first private company to send humans into space. According to Harvard Business Review, this marks not only a tremendous technological achievement, but also the first indication that an entirely new “space-for-space” industry — that is, goods and services designed to supply space-bound customers — could be close at hand. Sustainable space exploration will require appropriate interplanetary supply-chain management. Unlike Apollo, where everything was carried along, future exploration will have to rely on a complex supply-chain network on the ground and in space. Recently, a spacecraft containing pharmaceutical drugs that were grown on orbit has finally returned to after more than eight months in space. Varda Space Industries' in-space manufacturing capsule Winnebago-1 had crystals of the drug ritonavir, which is used to treat HIV/AIDS. It marked a successful conclusion of Varda’s first experimental mission to grow pharmaceuticals on orbit. Founded in 2020, Varda wants to unlock potentially huge markets in pharmaceuticals and semiconductor manufacturing by taking advantage of the unique microgravity environment. The commercial space age is here. SpaceX, Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic are leading the charge, driving down costs and innovation. "Think of them as the interplanetary DHLs and FedExes," writes Sabyasachi Mukherjee in this guest column. https://lnkd.in/da8i8U4Y STAT Times Indian Transport Logistics News Logistics Update Africa Jyothi Shankaran SpaceX Virgin Galactic BLUE ORIGIN ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization ISRO #logistics #spaceindustry #lowearthorbit #aviation #nasa #chandrayaan #mangalyaan

I'm Londizwi X, and the name 'Londizwi X' reflects a deep connection to the mystery associated with the letter X. X in mathematics means something we don't know yet, waiting to be discovered. Elon Musk's SpaceX, called 'SpaceX,' aims to redefine the future by exploring outer space. In addition, Malcolm X's choice of the same X, aligning with the future, is a good example. To choose X means to embrace the potential of the future and the unknown. The meaning of X is that it represents a powerful force for change, and identifying myself as the company's director who will shape the future corresponds to this. It invites people to take part in this future journey, to join a company that is growing rapidly and heading for an extraordinary future.

Flight of Dynamic Targeting on the CogniSAT-6 Spacecraft . Abstract : "Dynamic targeting (DT) is a spacecraft autonomy concept in which sensor data is acquired and rapidly analyzed and used to drive subsequent observation. We describe the low Earth orbit application of this approach in which lookahead imagery is analyzed to detect clouds, thermal anomalies, or land use cases to drive higher quality near nadir imaging. Use cases for such a capability include: cloud avoidance, storm hunting, search for planetary boundary layer events, plume study, and beyond. The DT concept requires a lookahead sensor or agility to use a primary sensor in such a mode, edge computing to analyze images rapidly onboard, and a primary followup sensor. Additionally, an inter-satellite or low latency communications link can be leveraged for cross platform tasking. We describe implementation in progress to fly DT in early 2025 on the CogniSAT-6 (Ubotica/Open Cosmos) spacecraft that launched in March 2024 on the SpaceX Transporter-10 launch. Researchers develop a test bed for separating valuable material on the moon, Image of the test bed machine. Credit: Frontiers in Space Technologies (2024). DOI: 10.3389/frspt.2023.1328341 It's often better to flesh out technologies fully on Earth's surface before they're used in space. That is doubly true if that technology is part of the critical infrastructure keeping astronauts alive on the moon. Since that infrastructure will undoubtedly use in-situ resources—known as in-situ resource utilization

Open letter to Ilon Mask, Richard Branson and Mark Kyuban Dear gentlemen Musk, Branson and Kyuban, I turn to you with sincere respect and admiration for your contribution to the development of technology, which not only changed the current landscape, but also opened doors for the future of mankind. You have done what many considered impossible, and your path is inspiration for those who seek to move forward, like you. At the moment, we are only at the stage of ideas and developments, but our goal is to contribute to the future of the space industry. I believe that even the most ambitious projects should begin with a simple question: "What if?" And it is this question that we ask ourselves in Kazakhstan. Inspired by your examples, I and my team strive to create something unique. We are developing ideas that include: Rockets with AI and plasma engines that can autonomously go into space; Airships-carriers capable of bringing missiles into space from the stratosphere; Mini-throns with reactive engines that can be used for research and tasks in various industries. We understand that these are ambitious goals, and that is why we turn to you. At this stage, we are looking for support, inspiration and, possibly, cooperation with those who have already proved that great ideas can become a reality. Berkut Innovation is just a concept, but we believe that with the right partners we can turn our ideas into significant innovations. You are leaders who change the rules of the game, and I appeal to you with a proposal to consider the possibility of participating in the development of these ideas. I believe that unification of efforts can open the way to new breakthroughs, help humanity expand their horizons and step into the new era of technology. I will be glad to any dialogue in which we can discuss potential cooperation or even just exchange thoughts. Thank you for your attention and for the fact that you continue to inspire all of us to move forward. Sincerely, The name of the founder Kazakhstan #SpaceX #Tesla #AI #Space #Innovation #Technology #Entrepreneur #Mars #SpaceExploration #RocketScience #ArtificialIntelligence #FutureTech #Falcon9 #Starship #Physics #Astronomy #SpaceTechnology #Engineering #Science
