I really enjoyed writing this piece on the challenges facing digital health and the steps we can take to overcome them. Here are a few of my key takeaways: 🩺 Healthcare professionals understand the problems we need to solve best, so we need to create more roles that incentivise doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied healthcare professionals to drive innovation. 💵 Reimbursement structures need to be redesigned around a healthcare model that focuses on prevention and integrates digital solutions into the patient journey. 🌎 Payers and providers need to simplify the supplier onboarding process for start-ups, support businesses to scale across a fragmented landscape, and provide early recurring revenue to innovative solutions. Thanks to my fellow writers Giovanni Donaldson Catherine Yong Rotimi Soyombo Paige Roepers.

⬇️ Very excited to share this whitepaper on the challenges faced when scaling digital health solutions, and recommendations to overcome them - co-authored by myself, Giovanni Donaldson, Benjamin Jones, Rotimi Soyombo, Paige Roepers. 💡 Our recommendations and potential solutions for these challenges are distilled from the insights of interviews with 30+ fantastic startup founders and corporate leaders that have been navigating these challenges throughout their career journeys. We also chose to tailor each recommendation based on who could implement it - so whether you are a startup founder or investing in startups, work in innovation at a pharma / consumer health corporates, or are a leader at a healthcare provider, we hope the case studies and potential solutions will spark further inspiration. 6 key areas we look at: 1. Cultural fear of innovation (understandably) due to the high risk environment 2. Knowledge gaps i.e. making sure you truly understand the environment you are building in 3. Geographic fragmentation 4. Constrained commercial models that make many innovative solutions unviable 5. Unrealistic growth targets when bringing digital health solutions to market 6. Lack of evidence collected to allow solutions to scale 🙏 I also want to say a massive thank you to everyone in my network and beyond that contributed to the paper - we're really grateful for your time and insights to help us bring this to life! 💬 Any thoughts or comments please just reach out, we'd love to discuss.

Day 2 of answering “UNSW Founders runs how many accelerators???” As founders like Sam van Bohemen and Mark G. will tell you, the Health 10x Accelerator is a powerful boost to help you go from idea to medical product. This is a support process that helps Australian startups commercialise health innovations - powered by philanthropy and partnerships with The George Institute for Global Health, Virtus Health and Australian Medical Angels. I recently sat down with Joseph W. Po, PhD to understand how the Health 10x Accelerator helps founders and learn tips for how to make your application stand out. Applications for the Health10x Accelerator are open now and close on 20 May: https://lnkd.in/gFRaf6DJ #startups

Proud to have co-authored this whitepaper evaluating the challenges businesses face in scaling digital health. It's such a unique space, with an ecosystem of interdependent players needing stronger alignment to build the pathways to scale innovation. 🇩🇪 Benjamin Jones and I spent a few wonderful days in Munich at the health.tech conference with thousands of founders, investors and health tech enthusiasts, discussing these barriers to scale at length and learning from those who have managed to navigate the space successfully. 🧘♀️ Nora Blum, founder of Mental Health Care platform, Selfapy, shared some tips on how to find a business model that sticks: 1. Reflect on your vision - align this to the business model you pursue 2. Listen and work closely with your product team to ensure that the business model and product roadmap are aligned 3. Build rapid experimentation cycles to test various models. Let go of failed attempts quickly and double down on what works 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Big shout out to the Founders Intelligence team (Giovanni Donaldson Benjamin Jones Catherine Yong Paige Roepers) for putting together such a great whitepaper and all those who took the time out to contribute their experiences and insights.

In a #HIMSS24 panel discussion, Michael A. Greeley from Flare Capital Partners shed light on the funding environment challenges facing the digital health sector. The good news is that it’s still possible to stand out. Greeley emphasized two key qualities that will distinguish successful startups in this evolving landscape: 💰 Demonstrate rapid ROI for their customers. The ability to showcase tangible cost reductions within a short time frame is paramount in gaining market acceptance. 📊 Provide data indicating improved outcomes, whether through enhanced operational efficiency, reduced clinical burnout, or better patient outcomes. I couldn't agree more. These are the two key ingredients I always tell my clients at Amendola Communications that are needed for building market awareness and ongoing PR traction. In addition, broader platforms that address multiple use cases are favored over narrow point solutions by health systems seeking comprehensive solutions to their evolving needs.
