Elevating the skyline on the fringe of Melbourne stands T3 Collingwood, a remarkable achievement in mass timber construction with an emphasis on sustainability. Without doubt it raises the bar for commercial infrastructure construction in Australia. As Australia’s leading mass timber manufacturer, ASH was chosen to supply the project’s glulam elements. An impressive 738 glue laminated timber columns and beams, totalling 874 cubic metres of mass timber, were designed and prefabricated in our world-class facility in regional Victoria. Developed by global real estate specialists, Hines, T3 Collingwood is the first Australian project in their T3 global portfolio. Engineered timber was specified on this project due to its lower embodied carbon and improved sustainability credentials. Our latest delivery went to Swift Brickwork Contractors Ltd for the Daubeny Project at The Oxford Science Park (TOSP), a cutting edge development in collaboration with Mace. With sustainability at its core, this project benefits from Greenbloc’s impressive 80% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional blocks. We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of SIX, a 48,000 sq ft office located at 6 St Andrew Street for our valued partner GPE. This project is a prime example of what can be achieved when sustainability, innovation, and wellbeing are at the heart of construction. We are proud of the impact it will have and the future it sets for similar developments. Key Highlights: • 24 tonnes (61%) of reused steel incorporated into the build. • Achieved a 92% carbon saving by reusing the existing structure. • Installed reclaimed access flooring to further reduce environmental impact.  • Received the City of London Considerate Contractor Gold Award. • Supported City of London Road Safety initiatives. Sustainability Achievements: • BREEAM Excellent and NABERS 4.5* ratings. • Diverted 99.95% of waste from landfill. • Insect Hotel and bird boxes installed to promote local biodiversity. • Used 100% FSC-certified timber throughout. Workforce Wellbeing: • Provided onsite mental health support through the #MakeItVisible initiative. • Welcomed a dedicated nurse to support workforce health and wellbeing. At MODEL, our vision wouldn’t be complete without our collaborators—one of which is Dayne Davis, Associate at BG&E. We recently had a chat about his work as a building engineer designing and structurally engineering, with the BG&E team, one of our mass timber projects. Here’s what he had to say: ‘This project will be the exemplar in integrating sustainable design into urban development without compromising on quality or affordability. By challenging the conventional dependence on steel and concrete, it offers a compelling case for the efficacy and safety of mass timber at scale. This has the power to influence policy, leading to the easing of restrictions. It could also inspire further innovation and widespread adoption of sustainable building.’ With Dayne and the team at BG&E, MODEL’s goal will be achieved and the rental experience will forever be reshaped.
