The Building Your Future campaign, matches students studying construction at colleges across the North East of England with local employers. We are really excited that it will deliver some tremendous outputs and help put young people on the road to a great career in our industry.   It is one of a number of initiatives we are delivering alongside other bodies such Constructing Excellence in the North East and Construction Alliance North East In this short video our President, Angela Carney, gives an overview of the NCBF and the campaign. 🛠️ When you work in an industry for decades, it's easy to imagine how you would run things if you were in charge, how you would treat your employees and what values you would prioritize. It was awesome to chat with Chris Heesterman and Andrew Fettback and hear about how they got the opportunity to do exactly that. Both spent 20 years in the electrical contracting space and have used that experience to shape their own company, Fettback & Heesterman. Here are some of their key strategies: 💡 Horizontal structure: They spoke about including their team in decision making and listening to feedback. 💡 Field first: The pair always wnats to stay connected with workers on the tools and ensuring they have everything they need to succeed. 💡 Intelligent growth: Fettback & Heesterman have no problem saying "no" to jobs they can't crush or that won't turn a profit. They are interested in healthy growth, not just growth for growth's sake. Congrats, guys! Looking forward to seeing what the future holds ⚡

Essex County Council has chosen Kier Construction as main contractor for new school on Rayleigh. Kier will design and build a school for a site on the Wolsey Park development, off Rawreth Lane in Rayleigh. It will provide 150 places for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The school will be run by Zenith Multi Academy Trust. Chris Lilley, regional director at Kier Construction Eastern and Midlands, said: “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with Essex County Council and continue to grow our strong eight-year relationship with the council. With solid experience and expertise in education projects, our brilliant team are delighted to have the opportunity to serve the communities in which they live, deliver high-quality educational spaces and drive social value in Essex.”

BE-ST has been awarded funding from Built by Nature to spearhead critical research into mass timber fire safety. The research grant is a direct response to the UK Government’s Timber in Construction Roadmap to identify the actions needed to improve understanding of how timber can be safely used in construction. With delivery partners at the University of Edinburgh Fire Research Centre, and with additional funding from Edinburgh Napier University, Timber Development UK, Confor and the Structural Timber Association, the project will address key knowledge gaps and present the next steps for advancing fire safety research and regulatory policy for mass timber buildings. Jim Chapman Construction Group has started vertical construction on its latest BTR general contracting project, Noble Vines. In the Port Wentworth area of greater Savannah, eight buildings are framed, and the clubhouse is drywalled.
