Flying start as a procurement professional Who ever dreamed of starting a career in procurement? The term "procurement" probably didn't even mean anything to you. Yet, here you are, without knowing exactly how it happened, starting out as a novice procurement professional, and it seems like a stroke of luck. This is what we often hear when it comes to "the next step" in conversations with young procurement professionals. It is true that there is a lot of movement in the position and challenges of procurement. More and more developments are happening on the supplier side, and organizations are realizing the increasing impact of the supply side on the delivered customer value of the organization. Sustainability and digitization are hot topics that you will encounter extensively within procurement. In short, in procurement, you are in pole position to make a significant contribution to the future themes for organizations and society. It sounds like a fairy tale, and in many cases, it turns out to be exactly that. These are the best questions I get asked, when I'm approaching procurement professionals about a new role: ➡️ What are the main challenges? ➡️ How is supplier performance evaluated and managed? ➡️ What are the typical procurement projects I'll be working on? ➡️ What technologies and tools does the company currently use for procurement? ➡️ What are the KPIs for this role? ➡️ Are there opportunities for professional development? ➡️ Can you describe the team I would be working with? ➡️ How is success measured? I'm finding that those in procurement have an increasing amount of expectations on the role. The best ones I'm working with are really qualifying the position before being put forward.

"Passionate about proactive procurement" It's the first sentence in my profile, and it's what I believe procurement should be in order to deliver optimal value. Note: value, not just savings...
