Our Mixtape Community's Summer Soulstice celebration was a hit across our offices last week! ☀️🎶
We honored Black Music Month, Caribbean Heritage Month, and Juneteenth with music, fun, and delicious food from local vendors in NYC, Chicago, Austin, and Irving!

"Juneteenth should really be a rallying call for all of us to think about the meaning of freedom, particularly regarding African Americans, as well as to the nation and the rest of the world."
⚪ Last call for an experienced cohort of mentors (music professionals, both creators and executives) to apply to be mentors for the we.grow x POWER UP (PRS for Music) Mentoring Program and coach future industry leaders.
✦ The mentors must have a deep understanding of the barriers faced by Black music professionals and extensive experience within your area or a specialist skill set.
✦ Mentors are matched with mentees based on experience, aims, needs, background and requirements by a panel of mentoring experts.
⚪ We provide training, a guidance handbook, access to 2x mentorship managers and £175 as a nominal gesture of gratitude for the mentors’ time.
✦ POWER UP is an ambitious, long-term initiative which supports Black music creators and industry professionals and executives, and addresses anti-Black racism and racial disparities in the music sector.
If you can commit to 2hrs per month, head to our blog to register by the 31st of January. 👇

"In the face of things that will dehumanize you, the antidote is becoming more Human" - Maryam hasnaa At -tauhidi
In a few hours I have the pleasure in speaking at Lake Highland Alumni Association with fellow Black Trailblazers including John Devine, Shamir Duverseau, Jacinta C. Mathis, & Ryanna Mowatt focusing on a numerous amount of topics.
One of the topics that will be emphasized in our conversation, will be asking “How do we connect with each other and ourselves?” How does “Being Human” relate to the world around us?
If you are looking for me to provide you the “end all answer,” I must admit, I do not have one. I do though have an opinion that begins to slowly peel back the answer to this question. For how can we be Human in a world that pushes us to aggressively connect technologically, but can leave us so empty emotionally?
For me “Being Human” means to be Perfectly imperfect. It means to make a Masterpiece out of the “Mess.” It means to show up authentically when it’s not necessarily accepted or choosing oneself when it is not easy. Being Human also means being accepted for all that you are, and more importantly for all that you are not. It means In a World of Computer Screens… - I hope that you have people around you that allows you to feel Seen. It means that when the algorithm pushes your posts because of the number of likes…I hope that it never shadows your ability to Like yourself...to Love yourself in your own life.
I want to take this moment to honor the people…that in spite of the ways society may try to dehumanize - thank you for holding the space, that allows me to be Human. ❤️🔥

Why aren’t more Black people in senior-level roles in this industry? Why aren’t people of color the gatekeepers of Black culture, especially when so much of the music that drives this industry comes from our communities?
It never made sense to me that individuals outside of our race often dictate our sound, determine how our artists make music, and control decisions about our culture. How can we ensure our voices and contributions are represented authentically if we aren’t in the rooms where these decisions are made?
The music industry thrives on Black culture, yet the leadership doesn’t reflect the people who create the heartbeat of this industry. It’s time for that to change.

Today is Juneteenth, an impactful day across North America for reflection, remembrance and celebration. From science, business and law, to sport, art and entertainment, Black communities have always and continue to make significant contributions to the fabric of our continent.
For the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles, supporting links between Black communities across our continent is a priority. Two of our major programs include:
The Black Music Managers program, within the Canadian Creative Accelerator (CCA) – Trade commissioners from our consulates in Los Angeles and New York joined forces to create the Black Musing Managers program in collaboration with Breaking Down Racial Barriers to build capacity and to facilitate introductions to the principal actors in the industry, paving the way for partnerships between Canadians and Americans.
The Black Tech Express program, which supports Canadian startups founded or led by Black Canadians seeking venture capital in Southern California. The startup accelerator is focused on Los Angeles, offering high-intensity services to high-growth tech companies led by Black entrepreneurs interested in expansion, capital and commercial opportunities in Southern California and beyond.
