A Note from the SISO CEO, Vincent Polito about the upcoming Leadership Conference As our US members prepare to celebrate July 4th, I have been thinking about the upcoming Leadership Conference in Philadelphia this August 13-15, 2024. The program is designed to inspire but also to inform. There are sessions where I’ll be paying rapt attention. Er, I pay rapt attention to all of them, I mean. Seriously though, we’ve asked many of our leaders to get involved and share the most impactful ideas that have driven success and what’s next. We’ve also carefully selected a few outside speakers for the Women’s Leadership afternoon and a few selected sessions in the core program. These speakers will be valuable for professional and personal growth and development. I’ll highlight these folks later in July. I’ve always found that much of what I learned also comes from those interactive moments during some of the white space during the program. It’s in these informal periods where sometimes I’ve learned the most and taken away actionable ideas. The SISO Leadership Conference is crafted to foster these meaningful experiences. The breaks are extensive enough to allow time to connect. You choose your own lunch table topic on Wednesday and breakfast topic on Thursday. You chat with other colleagues about what you learned at the talk you just attended rather than the specifics of your job since we all share the common ground of organizing events. The evening entertainments (carefully curated by our Philadelphia hosts) also run the gamut from educational to just plain fun. I know each of them will be a worthwhile experience. And I'll also host a gathering for those early arrivals on Monday. Please contact me directly at vincent@siso.org if you’d like to be included. I can guarantee you that your participation will be beneficial, whether you’re a seasoned professional or a newcomer. Your next transformative experience is just a conference away. Attend the SISO Leadership Conference to immerse yourself in enriching knowledge exchanges and networking opportunities. Member companies, remember our policy of offering the first registration complimentary. For many companies, this savings is larger than the annual membership fee. Non-members can join today and receive the same benefit. As always... If you need your invitation code, please get in touch with Anna@siso.org. If you are interested in sponsoring, please get in touch with Katherine@siso.org. If you have any questions at all, please get in touch with Vincent@siso.org. I want to connect with you in Philadelphia. Register to attend today! With best regards, Vinnie #events #eventprofs #eventprofsuk #tradeshows #eventmanagers #eventindustry

𝐃𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐘𝐨𝐮? This weekend, I asked a question to a group of executives in the Zoom Leadership Academy session. The topic was WHAT ARE THE CORNERSTONES OF LEADERSHIP? The question I asked was: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬? It was a lively discussion. There was a lot of discussion. And unfortunately, a lot of guessing. Kouzes and Posner (an excellent leadership development firm) have been asking a straightforward question of employees for the past 30 years: What characteristic do you 𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐑𝐄 most in leaders? The answer has remained the same: Honesty. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 when your manager or someone higher up was not honest or did not act with integrity? 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐱 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐦 𝐔𝐩 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲/𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 We want our leader to: ▪ Practice what they preach ▪ Walk the talk ▪ Actions consistent with their words ▪ Put their money where their mouth is ▪ Follow through on their promises ▪ Do what they say they will do One of the executives from the session asked: Don't we want this from everyone in our business? Don't we want this from our colleagues too? I turned the question to the people on Zoom: Don't we? The answer was a resounding YES. We want people to walk their talk and follow through. Our clients/customers also want this too. And remember this at home because your spouse wants it, and your children NEED it. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 1/ The first cornerstone is HONESTY. 2/ The second is to have a VISION of where you are taking us. Let us know how I fit in or don't fit in. 3/ Be COMPETENT. Know what the heck you are doing. 4/ INSPIRE ME. Employees say, "Make me feel good about this place and what we do. Make me proud." You can apply these today - no matter where you are on the org chart. I know call center agents who demonstrate these four cornerstones more than many managers I have known in the past. My point is 𝐖𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐋𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐒. And here is a good starting point. 🌍🇹🇷2024 Global Leadership Conference of YPO The 73rd Global Leadership Conference of the Young Presidents Organization is a wrap! Over 900 YPO Champions and extraordinary leaders, all CEOs of significant organizations, spent 2 intense days in Istanbul to learn, discuss and share best practises for their upcoming leadership roles. My friend Marius Stefan and I had the privilege to lead workshops for the incoming Membership Engagement Officers, a position that has multiple touchpoints to new, existing and transitioning YPO members. As a lifelong learner I know that you learn best when you teach. Here is what I learned and take away: 🤴🏼Check your ego at the door: We all play in our own movie and the others rarely watch. Let’s not take ourselves too importantly, it is just so much more relaxing (for everyone). ✋🏻No judgement zone: In a psychologically safe setting we can let our façade down and be authentic and vulnerable, the discussion and sharing immediately goes deeper. And perfectionism is an illusion anyway; we had to pivot several times in our workshop to deal with unforeseen events beyond anybody’s control. Still nailed it, they said… 🐟🐠🦈 There is always a bigger fish: In YPO it happens you talk to somebody new and find out after 10 minutes that at young age she had founded, developed and sold a Unicorn company. The most successful people are the most humble ones at the same time and serve others unconditionally. 🔋Energy is endless and fuels itself: We had YPOers in our workshop that keep throwing their hat in the ring as event, chapter or global champions every single time they were asked while running and building successful businesses over many years and diverse careers. Amazing! 🎁The more you give, the more you get: This conference is all about serving our peers pro bono and with serious commitments of time and resources. This applies to all leadership roles within YPO, which is run by peers for peers. To bring our workshop over the finish line was an intense journey over 6 months with a 3 day kickoff in Boston in October 2023, monthly / weekly checkin calls, rehearsals and 2 days of delivery in Istanbul. Hard work undoubtedly and immensely rewarding by seeing that learnings are driven home and through the recognition of our YPO peers. For me this is a way of giving back to a community which has enriched my life. 🇹🇷 The great people in Turkey know how to make everybody welcome and they know a thing or two about how to throw a good party! Congratulations to the organizing and hospitality team, this was one of the best YPO events!!! CEO, Fearless Women @Work, ExecutiveBound | Developing women and leaders in STEM fields, financial services, and Fortune 500 companies to become fearless & healing leaders | Women Techmakers Ambassador
Can I share vulnerably? I was on the hook! I delivered a keynote Wednesday morning in Houston, TX, to open my client's annual conference with a customized talk titled Seeds of Success: Cultivating a Growth Mindset. Then, that same day, I facilitated a workshop on Leadership Development: Cultivating Your Personal Brand as a Leader. On Friday, I'm closing the conference by delivering my second keynote, Applying Your Training Beyond the Conference! There are over 200 attendees... I've been preparing for more than a month and didn’t know how it would turn out! Guess what? The message served them. Many talented attendees connected afterward and thanked me for sharing my story–they felt they could connect with it on so many levels. Many expressed it was exactly what they needed to hear at this stage of their career and life. “You are inspiring, Dr. Baro! Thanks for your great presentation at the ARE conference.” “Hi, Dr. Thank you for your talk, it was awesome!” Why am I sharing this with you? If you had told me eight years ago that I would earn a living by delivering keynotes, leadership training, and professional development programs to women and leaders globally, I would have said, "No way!" Eight years ago, I became clear about my vision to impact the lives of women and leaders looking to grow and advance in their careers. I also learned decades ago about the power of networking. A former client referred me to my client in Texas. So, I live the power of building a support network of allies. When I set out to build a successful business, I needed to retool, so I created my action plan, prioritizing learning how to attract new clients who needed my help. When I opened registration for the Women's Fearless Leadership Masterclass on September 12 and 18, I knew in my heart that many of you have big dreams and a desire to advance in your leadership roles. This dream may feel far-fetched given the obstacles in your way—from lack of confidence to self-doubt about what's possible for you, not articulating your value to sponsors who can go to bat for you, to not having a strategic plan of action in place, among others. Yet, you may struggle to figure out how to crack the code and claim that next leadership seat for various reasons. When we host the next masterclass, I'll share the four keys I've repeatedly applied to achieve my audacious goals, such as serving my client in Texas. If you're ready to step up and invest in yourself and future growth, all you need to do is save your FREE virtual VIP seat here: https://lnkd.in/erNcTRBc 🔍What's in store for you? Own your vision and unique value. Build your support network. Develop a dynamic plan of action. Strengthen the bridge to get there. I can't wait! Share this post/invitation with high-achieving women in your company and professional network to amplify our impact and change lives together. Live with purpose, live with joy! Coach Ginny Wish me luck on Friday!! 🤗

Founder and President @ Speaking of Leadership® | Retired Vistage Chair - Boston | Mentoring the CEOs of tomorrow; now located full time in Wolfeboro, NH
Have you heard of Vistage? It’s an organization that offers leadership training, coaching, and support to CEOs and business owners. They have over 45,000 members from around the world! Why should a business leader join a Vistage peer group? It’s more than just a social club – they’re all about learning and growing as a leader. Each group has an experienced Vistage Chair who can guide the conversation or offer advice. There are many resources and training opportunities, from workshops to webinars, to help you improve your communication skills, build a stronger team, and develop a more effective strategic plan. Networking, Accountability, and Diverse Perspectives: Why Vistage is the Ultimate Resource for CEOs and Business Owners 1. Accountability One of the largest benefits of joining a Vistage peer group is the accountability it provides. When you’re part of a peer group, you’re not just accountable to yourself and your employees – you’re accountable to your peers as well. That means you’ll be motivated to stay ahead of your goals and commitments. Plus, Vistage peer groups often have goal-setting and tracking tools to help you focus on what’s most important. 2. Diversity The diversity of perspectives that the Vistage peer groups have is invaluable. When running a business, it’s easy to get tunnel vision and only see things from your perspective. But when you’re part of a peer group, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from other business leaders who may have very different backgrounds and experiences. That’s a great resource when you’re trying to solve complex problems or come up with innovative solutions. 3. Networking When you join a Vistage peer group, you not only connect with like-minded individuals but also gain access to exclusive events such as regional meetings and national conferences. These events provide a great opportunity to network with other Vistage members worldwide and learn even more. Additionally, being part of a Vistage peer group allows you to connect with other business leaders who understand the challenges you face. This can be invaluable when making tough decisions, dealing with difficult employees or customers, or even bouncing ideas off someone who understands your perspective. In the end, whether or not you decide to join a Vistage peer group is up to you. But if you’re a CEO or business owner who’s looking to expand and improve your leadership skills, connect with like-minded people, and stay accountable to your goals, it’s worth considering. Recently, our Key group Vistage meeting was hosted by the COO of Boston Urban Hospitality, who sought the group’s advice on mastering the COO role to prepare for becoming a CEO. Our members attend the monthly meeting as business professionals, but at the core, we strive to be leaders who empower other leaders. Are you an executive in the Boston area? DM me to see if our group is a great fit for you. #CEO #Boston #Vistage #Leadership

Fantastic day yesterday at an organisation’s Leadership Conference where Leadrly was launched to the entire leadership population. They’ve been trialling Leadrly with an initial group – now it’s available for all. There was great excitement as the leaders crafted their prompts for their “most pressing leadership challenge” and submitted to Maia – Leadrly’s virtual leadership coach. Maia produced great advice on a wide range of challenges and built conversation guides for them to use. We ran a competition for the ‘best prompt’. Here’s just a few challenges that Maia grappled with: “Hi Maia. How can I help my team build on a successful year to have an event more successful year” “Maia - how do I motivate and empower my team to effectively manage an increasing work-load” “Hi Maia – How do I lead my tea throughout a restructure. The loss of one leader may result in a significant change in team dynamics, specifically around trust ehen eworking in a remote environment.” “Hi Maia. I need to grow new capability in my team with long-term team members who have limited desire to learn new things” “Kia ora Maia – I have an unresolved conflict between two members of my team. How do I approach this sensitive issue?” “Hi Maia – How can I navigate my team through the ambiguity of our digital transformation. We don’t have all the information and answers around how the changes will affect them and I know some will be anxious”. “Hi Maia – how do I optimise RASCI in the management of a current project” And on a lighter note: “Maia – HR is getting a bit lippy!” True to form, Maia responded “Hi [anon], It sounds like you are experiencing some tension with HR. It is important to address this issue professionally and constructively. Firstly, approach the situation with a mindset of seeking to understand, rather than to be understood. So, a great day for Leadrly. And, in the closing remarks the CEO enthusiastically shared how they had used Leadrly to help create their key-note address delivered earlier in the day. Role modelling right from the top. Fantastic! Are you facing these types of leadership challenges? If so, Leadrly might just be your saving grace. 😉 Leah McKerrow Robert Stewart Holly Johnston Garth Stewart Marieke Zieleman Emma Bessey (Barrett) Emma Murphy Colby Raley Lee Murphy Martin RAWLING Wing Lee Rich McLafferty Helen Mountfort Belinda Fogg Kate Meldrum Chiquita Hansen Cathryn Monro Hollie Tapa Cain McLeod Ian Ogilvie Julia Chin

Result-driven brand Architect: Driving market success through strategic vision and value-driven solutions.
I'm one of those who do not read the introductory parts of a book, I just jump straight into the first chapter or read when they are short. But something happened at a leadership conference I attended in church last week. The theme was "Lead Where You Are", it featured the videocast of the Global Leadership Summit. We were to read a book titled " Be Diligent". We were divided into groups and given two chapters each to read and prepare to give a presentation. The presentation was to be done by the group leader and another person from the group. I was the group lead so I had to present alongside another member of the group. Our group was group 1 so we had to review chapters one and two. When it was time for the presentation, I went first and presented based on the chapters but when my partner started presenting, I was confused. Here is why... Everything she said was not from the chapters, I kept looking at her, then the chapters repeatedly if she read another chapter. I had to comport myself and listen to her as the program was live and I do not want others to see my confusion. It was a beautiful presentation though and was not off the point. After the presentation, we got back to our seats and I asked her "Where did you get that from?". She said, "From the book, you know when reading a book, you first read the introduction and all of that as it helps you to understand what the book talks about". I was like 😳 because I peeped at her jotter during the presentation and she had a FULL page from "introduction". There are then, I knew that I had to start taking the introductory parts of books seriously. Something else happened... Our group took the 4th position out of 4 groups😳 This is not to brag but we had one of the best presentations and if we were to judge based on that, we should have come 1st or 2nd but we came 4TH. After the program, I went to one of the moderators and asked, what was the criteria for grading? How did we come 4th? Guess what she said, TEAMWORK. She was like," We didn't see your group reviewing the book, there were pictures of other groups reviewing the book..." I couldn't argue with her because she was RIGHT. During the breaks when we were asked to review the book(the source of the pictures), many of my group members were nowhere to be found, some of the ones present were not interested in reading the book while some including myself wanted to read it but had not read it at the time so we had nothing to discuss. We dispersed and decided to read it in our rooms and prepare INDIVIDUALLY. NO GROUP DISCUSSION NO DEMO PRESENTATION WITHIN OURSELVES(it would have saved me the confusion when my partner was presenting) and we got a 4th position WELL DESERVED 😂 Two things I learned from this: ¶ The introductory part of books is gainful. ¶ The importance of teamwork especially when you think it doesn't matter. Well, we got the amazing book in the picture as a prize 💃. #leadership #teamwork #readingright
