In the small village of Lambra in Punjab, biogas is piped directly into homes, freeing residents from the cost of LPG and promoting eco-friendly energy. Through the community-owned Lambra Kangri Cooperative Service Society, biogas is generated from cow dung collected from households, which residents are even paid for, creating a sustainable, closed-loop system that benefits all. https://lnkd.in/dp37YZMH ℹ️ Varaha’s project, located in Telangana, India, produces biochar, a carbon-rich material, using agricultural waste (corn shanks) as the feedstock. ℹ️ Biochar helps improve soil fertility and locks carbon away for thousands of years. By generating biochar via a gasifier facility, Varaha not only sequesters CO2 but also prevents emissions that would have resulted from waste mismanagement and fossil fuel usage. The carbon credits issued under the scientific standards of Puro.Earth are a testament to this high-quality, tech-based approach to carbon removal. ℹ️ Varaha has raised nearly USD 13 million in equity financing, including a recent (in Feb 2024) US$ 8.7 million Series A round led by RTP Global, with support from Omnivore, Orios, Norinchukin Bank, among others. #biochar #varaha #cornshanks #puro.earth #telangana

India’s #agriculture sector, employing over 45% of the population, is at the forefront of innovation. With biofuels emerging as a #sustainable energy alternative, small farmers stand to gain significantly through crop diversification and enhanced income streams. Recent government initiatives, including increased ethanol blending targets and incentives for #biofuel production, are paving the way for a greener, self-reliant future. According to the Economic Survey 2023-24, India’s biofuel industry has the potential to generate INR 50,000 crore in additional farmer income annually. Crops like sugarcane and maize are key contributors, offering farmers a steady demand for their produce. Yet, the adoption of biofuel-linked crops requires robust #agricultural insurance frameworks and widespread farmer awareness to mitigate risks and ensure stability. While policies like the PM Fasal Bima Yojana have seen success, with over 35 crore farmers insured since inception, more targeted efforts are needed to educate farmers about leveraging these schemes. Bridging knowledge gaps can unlock biofuel opportunities while securing livelihoods against #climate and market uncertainties.
