Our key takeaways from the 2024 #Agrifood #Demo #Day: 1️⃣ Key industry breakthroughs happen at the intersection of agtech, climate tech, and biotech (e.g., CinSOIL, ZeroEx, Rooted). 2️⃣ Despite upstream innovation, the food revolution must stay consumer-focused. We need to reshape product narratives with limited marketing budgets to drive real change. 3️⃣ Funding is down, but capital exists, especially for climate and biotech startups. We simply could not have done this without your support: LPs, team members and friends of the firm - far too many to mention. 🏦 AVANT BIO secured additional LP commitments and invested in 3 portfolio companies this year - with all three posting impressive revenue and customer growth. 🧬 We participated in Nomic Bio's Series B to continue revolutionizing #proteomics with their nELISA platform, empowering over 75 companies—spanning top-10 pharma, innovative biotechs, and prestigious research institutes- together, collectively profiled more than 400,000 samples. 🔬 We led PathPresenter's $7.5M round to accelerate their enterprise pathology workflow solution powering >50 top-tier hospitals, labs and pharma companies to create seamless and powerful #digitalpathology workflows 🧫 We led PL BioScience GmbH's round to expand their offering, scale manufacturing and meet the increasing demand for human platelet lysate (HPL) in critical cell culture applications. 🌍 Dozens of trips in support of portfolio companies, LPs and industry leadership events - our team participated in 9 life science/healthtech and #emergingmanager panels. One of the things that I have found genuinelly meaningful and inspiring from the last few years of taking the head-first leap into “So you want to start your own beverage company” is not only connecting with other like-minded Dreamer Doers, but also seeing those dreams come to life and grow. Raising capital in early stage beverage is brutal. I could write a damn book on the learnings from going through and completing our seed round haha. But once you get past that initial stage, are still standing, have tangible product / market fit and solid growth / revenue metrics it’s all about Phase 2 growth mode. I linked with Jeremy K. John Dalsey early on into the Nectar Hard Seltzer journey and knew within 30 mins that they came here to go the distance. I also still have their epic OG first secondsry box model that I keep Christmas ornaments in 😂. I am STOKED to see they opened up a portion of their round to involve and further engage their community - I am now a proud investor and officially along for the ride. Game On! I’m a personal and professional fan of the Reg CF Community Raise model. We did a portion of our seed round on Wefunder and it was organized, seamless and has paid community building dividends tenfold.
