As Christians, our participation in the electoral process should be guided by Christ-centered principles. This includes holding fast to the truth. This July we will see faith enter the ballot box in a way unseen in any previous election. New voters are more influenced by faith and agree it will influence their vote a new study finds by the Institute for The Impact of Faith in Life. The implications of this depend upon how the voter sees their faith intersect with politics and the pledges of candidates. Religio- ethnic lobbying groups are primed to take advantage. My most recent piece for Spiked assesses the lobbying landscape and the inherent risks. Faith leaders and families will need to ensure divisive narratives don't manage to entice the young faithful voters. One point of emphasis could be building on the results of a study into faith and environmentalism which shows the same age group to be most likely to agree God is an environmentalist. https://lnkd.in/gyuVvR6F

This is the most accurate definition of this Country I've seen in a long time.

What does it mean to claim the US is a Christian nation? The U.S. Constitution doesn’t mention any specific religion. Yet large numbers of right-wing Americans believe the founders intended the U.S. to be a Christian nation, and many believe it should be one. It’s a concept that’s energizing some right-wing and Republican activists ahead of the 2024 election.

🤔 "Here we are ..." starts Amanda Ripley in her Op-Ed without defining whom she addresse with "we". And "How to survive another Trump-Biden election" might differ from the group considered. Looking at it from an #EU27 perspective the risk defined as potential damage x probability is exuberant as the damage can be fife threatening considering the current fickle security policy. So the #EU27 are IMHO best advised to ignore any inner US power games and set up their own security architecture in Europe. The 1.5 million soldiers in active duty (100.000 more than the US) and their 250 B€ budgets supported by one of the largest global economies are a perfect corner stone to survive independently of an US quagmire. #Zeitenwende rather than #Kleinstaaterei and #Nibelungentreue
The admonitions in this esssy are an echo of the well known prayer composed by Reinhold Niebuhr “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” But once we rdcognize the differences, we can also reset our efforts to change the things we can in light of another Niebuhr quote “ Man's capacity for justice makes democracy possible, but man's inclination to injustice makes democracy necessary.” - and following that fact requires courage we need now.

📊 NEW: A PRRI survey of more than 5,000 Americans offers an in-depth analysis of public support for authoritarian ideologies and finds that support for authoritarian views is strongest among Republicans (particularly those who hold favorable views of former President Donald Trump), supporters of Christian nationalism, white evangelical Protestants, and weekly churchgoers. PRRI President and Founder Robert P. Jones said, “Notably, while the vast majority of Americans reject the use of political violence, those who support authoritarianism are nearly twice as likely as the general public to support it." Using the Right-Wing Authoritarianism Scale (RWAS) and the Child-Rearing Authoritarian Scale (CRAS), two classic approaches to measure authoritarianism, PRRI finds that while most Americans do not hold highly authoritarian views, a substantial minority does: 43% of Americans score high on the RWAS, while 41% score high on the CRAS. Before watching tonight's debate, check out this new data drop!! PRRI just released a survey analysis (of over 5,000 Americans) showing a disturbingly strong link between support for autocracy and Christian nationalism. This finding is compatible with what Eric McDaniel, Irfan Nooruddin, and I found when analyzing several national surveys from 2011-2020 in our book #TheEverydayCrusade (CUP, 2022). Christian nationalism might sound nice to everyday Americans who think Christian nationalist beliefs are all about being a good Christian and a stellar patriot. But it's the opposite - Christian nationalism is a highly organized anti-democratic movement that is meant to privilege (White) Christians over all others. Supporting democracy and religious freedom means opposing Christian nationalism because Christian nationalism is just shorthand for Christian supremacy. Stay tuned for work by PRRI fellows Michael R. Fisher Jr., Ansley Quiros, and myself for cool (and publicly available bc PRRI is the best!) research on the racial and religious dimensions of this year's election attitudes (among other cool topics).

Hey friends, I really want to encourage you to join me for this event. As we get closer to the election, things are certain to get more heated. Rather than a typical event that talks about how we should vote, this event is focused on our lives, as we engage in the political sphere. Thinking about our own hearts and souls, how should we be involved in politics, while drawing closer to Jesus? Think less focus on politics, and more focus on discipleship and Jesus. I really think this will be worth your time and investment. I hope you will join me. https://lnkd.in/e-5bVWUi

Chapter 2 And when our Servants of the People fail in their virtues and think solely of avarice and of the usurpation of power for themselves and their kinsman this is where our other two institutions play their role. The house of Lords, although destitute of the legislative power is there to scrutinise the laws proposed by the Commons, nonetheless is not completely impotent in protecting our freedom and rights and stands there between the tyranny and the liberty of the people. Of the many preceding years, during which the House of Commons strived their best to diminish the power of the House of Lords, constantly adding new peers from their ranks enlarging its representation to 790 members of which of them only 92 are hereditary, they are now looking to remove the last barrier to their hegemony and deprive themselves of the check on their grasps and to throw off the yoke. As if you think of the House of Lords as the body solely filled with the former party members granted this honour for either their merits, their avarice or vices, imagine the institution stripped off the hereditary peers who are indeed the true lowers of their country, what benefits of such body at all to whole people? You may predict how our future may slip into the obscurity for there will be no one anymore left to protect our fundamental rights and freedom from the tyranny as the power should always be kept in check and be watched by the other members of the community in the interests of the democracy and the people themselves. So therefore, no matter what allegiance you hold to which party, and what values you share as an individual, Sir Keir Starmer’s affront on the Hereditary Peers is an affront to the whole nation! Our fundamental rights and values are at stake. It is therefore in the utmost interest of the people and liberty to preserve our Honourable institutions intact! #ConstitutionalChange #HereditaryPeers #HouseOfLords #UKPolitics #SirKeirStarmer #PoliticalReform #BritishParliament #Democracy #PoliticalDiscourse #Governance #UKGovernment #LegislativeProcess #PublicPolicy #CivicEngagement #PoliticalLeadership #ParliamentaryReform #UKConstitution #PoliticalDebate #NationalSovereignty
