Let us celebrate Earth Day today by first challenging the illusion and delusion that we are separate from the Earth.
Instead, Let's take action from the truth that:
"We are not separate from the Earth.
We are inseparable from the Earth.
WE ARE THE EARTH."
Recognizing the wisdom of this interconnectedness and interdependence is the first step towards sensible action fostering a deeper sense of responsibility, love and stewardship for our collective home, our planet Earth.

The greatest purpose we have on this Earth is to leave it better than we found it, to contribute positively to the lives of others, and to cultivate compassion, understanding, and harmony among all beings. It's about making meaningful connections, leaving a legacy of kindness and empathy, and striving to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. It's about embracing diversity, protecting the environment, and working towards a more just and equitable society. Our purpose is to learn, grow, and evolve both individually and collectively, leaving a legacy of love, wisdom, and progress for future generations to build upon. Ultimately, our purpose is to make a difference, no matter how small, and to leave the world a little brighter than we found it.

“We stand at a critical moment in Earth’s history, a time when humanity must choose its future. As the world becomes increasingly interdependent and fragile, the future at once holds great peril and great promise. To move forward we must recognize that in the midst of a magnificent diversity of cultures and life forms we are one human family and one Earth community with a common destiny. We must join together to bring forth a sustainable global society founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace. Towards this end, it is imperative that we, the peoples of Earth, declare our responsibility to one another, to the greater community of life, and to future generations”

Our VP of ESG and Marketing, Mike Elwood, is ushering in a new era of sustainability at DCI. Inspired by Eric Novak's recent video on going beyond Earth Day, Mike explains why it's imperative that we treat every day like Earth Day and how that's shaping the way we do things at DCI by putting People, Process and Planet first.

"Eric Novak's post motivated me to write the following, thanks.
April 22nd, 2024 marked the global celebration of Earth Day, an annual reminder of the collective responsibility we share for our planet. As the VP of ESG & Marketing at DCI, I'm compelled to echo a vital message: every day should be Earth Day, not once a year and gone, forgotten until next year when you turn the lights off. We can and MUST do better.
Sustainability isn’t just a concept I celebrate once a year; it’s embedded in every aspect of my life and it influences decisions I make. I am committed to continuous improvement in my environmental performance, making sure that each step I take forward is a step towards a more sustainable future.
My position on this is clear—sustainable practices are integral, not optional. As part of my daily life, I constantly seek innovative ways to reduce my environmental footprint, be it through reducing waste, enhancing energy efficiency, or employing new technologies that lessen my impact on the environment.
Sustainability goes beyond my corporate initiatives at DCI. It’s about changing our mindset and daily habits. I challenge each of you to consider how your actions impact the planet, not just today, but every day. Ask yourself, “What can I do to make a positive impact?” Whether it’s reducing waste, recycling, or advocating for sustainable practices in your community, every small action contributes to a larger change.
I am driven by my belief that I must leave the environment better than I found it. This belief guides my actions and shapes my strategies in environmental stewardship. It’s a complex journey, and I am here to lead by example, showing the world that sustainability and business success are not mutually exclusive but are, in fact, synergistic.
Let’s take Earth Day momentum and turn it into daily action. Let’s work together, innovate, and set new standards for sustainability in industry and life. Our planet does not need us, but we certainly need it, so let’s protect it with the diligence and care it deserves."
-Mike Elwood, VP of ESG and Marketing, DCI
