The Field Gun Factory in Kanpur is on the verge of updating around 800 towed field guns categorized as obsolete in the Indian Army's arsenal. These guns, crucial military gear for the Army, were first made in the 1970s and no longer produced after 1988. However, they continue to serve the nation by providing ongoing upkeep. The recoil system is a serious issue with these firearms. Stability is critical during firing since any problem in the recoil system can cause the gun to lose aim or, worse, topple over. Recognizing this, the Ministry of Defence tasked the Field Gun Factory with developing an enhanced recoil system. A visual analysis by The New York Times has revealed that the munitions used in the Israeli airstrike, which killed dozens of Palestinians in a displaced persons camp in Rafah on Sunday, were manufactured in the United States. Weapons experts and visual evidence confirmed that the debris found at the scene the following day included remnants of a GBU-39 bomb, designed and made in the U.S. This specific type of bomb is notable for its supposed capability to reduce civilian casualties, a point U.S. officials have emphasized in urging Israel to use it more frequently. Trevor Ball, a former U.S. Army explosive ordnance disposal technician, identified the weapon on X. He highlighted that the key identifying feature was the tail actuation system, which controls the fins guiding the GBU-39 to its target. Improvised Mechanical Grenades Produced in the Philippines During February, March and April 2024, Philippine security forces raided camps of groups allied with the New People’s Army, in Abra Province, in the north of the country. During the raids, various equipment was seized, including weapons, small arms ammunition, IEDs, rifle grenades, standard and improvised hand grenades, communications and observation devices, various electric detonators, and batteries. Some of the seized items were indicative of workshops for the production of improvised hand grenades. These included molds and parts of rotating striker fuzes and safety pins for grenades. Additionally, grenades resembling the M26 model with similar mechanisms were seized. The appearance of these items marks a change of direction from what has been hitherto known about improvised NPA ammunition – IEDs documented to date were mostly cased in PVC pipes.   Get the full report: https://lnkd.in/duhnwZgn
