I've just updated my First Aid skills on a 4hr #BritishRedCross course which I highly recommend. We never know when it'll be needed & for whom. It covers bleeding, choking, burns, broken bones, head injuries, sprains & strains, unresponsiveness, defibrilators, heart attacks, strokes, seizures, diabetic emergencies, asthma attacks, allergic reactions, swallowing harmful substances, meningitis & hypothermia. All really useful stuff. It's now all been simplified since I last went. CPR is now just pumping to Nelly the Elephant or Bee Gees Staying Alive. No need for pauses to do mouth to mouth resuscitation (which has also been phased out). The Dr ABC is still there - Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing & Circulation. 200 people a day do this course - why not you too!? https://lnkd.in/eiW8iz9G

World First Aid Day is observed on the second Saturday of September each year. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of first aid training and its role in saving lives. Here is the video of our Doctor performing how to provide CPR to a patient. If you witness a patient who appears to be unresponsive and not breathing, you should provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) immediately. Here are the steps to perform CPR: 1. **Check for Responsiveness:** - Tap the patient on the shoulder and shout, "Are you okay?" - If there's no response, call for emergency help (or ask someone else to call). 2. **Check for Breathing:** - Tilt the patient's head back and check for normal breathing (not gasping). - If the patient is not breathing or only gasping, begin CPR. 3. **Call for Help:** - Dial the local emergency number or shout for someone nearby to call for emergency services. 4. **Begin Chest Compressions:** - Kneel beside the patient and place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest (on the lower half of the breastbone). - Place your other hand on top of the first hand, interlocking your fingers. - Position your shoulders directly over your hands and keep your arms straight. - Push hard and fast at a depth of about 2 inches (5 cm) in adults at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. - Allow the chest to fully recoil between compressions. - Continue CPR until professional help arrives or the patient starts breathing.
