This film made my day. A gem of 30 minute movie following Riki and Talon from their traditional territory from Lil'wat learning how to ski to descend Tz'sil (so called Mount Currie). So powerful and a beautiful story on reconnection through land-based ski programs. It show the importance of amplifying support and opportunities for youth to be on the land and to expand land and water-based programs. https://lnkd.in/eXpAijbB

“Listening is being able to be changed by the other person.” – Alan Alda. Today is the National Day of Listening and this is something that we encourage all our children, young people and members of staff to do everyday. When we truly listen to other people we can not only help them, but also inspire and understand ourselves better. In Forest school we had the perfect example of this – which you can read about below https://lnkd.in/eXH86en8

#FasterReading - I'm all for it, but it brings back memories of 1982 (ish), in the year or so before my O levels - that ages me! I don't know if it was a fad at the time, but I remember being put through a course on how to read faster, without compromising on comprehension. The intent was to make it easier for us to access the knowledge we needed from books for O and A levels. Anyway, fixed texts, a mechanical device that was fixed over the book, moving down the page to force us to read quicker. Then tested on comprehension. Techniques were trained, such as focusing on the centre of the page, and scanning around that central point, and we used both normal page layouts and magazine newspaper columns (the latter are far easier to scan quickly and something I was trained to use by ROGENSI LIMITED when doing presentations, and I still use today in lesson PowerPoints; 2 or 3 columns per slide instead of long lines of text. Great scaffolding for weak readers, students with eye/text tracking issues, and more). I seem to recall base-line had me reading about 300 words per minute, and over 600 by the end of the course. We were re-tested later (a month or so) and I still clocked over 500 words per minute. This was related to a certain level of comprehension - I forget the details of that. Hey, I was 14 or 15 😆 When I consider all the #Oracy and #Literacy posts in my 5 years of teaching, and another today from GL Education about their 'Turning the Page' survey in international schools, I have to believe, unfortunately, that in certain areas education has regressed, and we've missed the point at time. Let's not forget InnerDrive's free oracy webinar coming soon. My thoughts on this are that education is too focused on "content", and grades, as it makes it easier to in terms of accountability. Too much focus on data; don't get me wrong, big data is key for governments and making decisions and very useful it is (I love a good bit of data). BUT, teachers deal with children, as individuals, in the classroom, not big data, not resources. It's like a company thinking their core product is making money, and giving accountants too much weight in decisions (they are one part of it); the core product is whatever their good or service is, making money is the consequence of getting most elements of the core product correct. So, yes, let's increase the amount of time in Primary for teachers to read the students (see Mary Myatt's post earlier this week), and let's start encouraging parents to do the same too! Or some other family member. For children who already read, let's get them reading faster with #FasterReading courses. How about Amazon offering Kindle Unlimited discounts or some kind of package to #education? #EncourageReading Highly recommend reading this in conjunction from an earlier post of Mary's https://lnkd.in/d6dmGAJN

I have spoken a great deal in the last week or so about the impact of the 'Faster Read' research from the University of Sussex. Steve Willshaw first put me on to this research, and frankly the impact of faster reading, in particular for pupils with low starting points, is almost beyond belief. As a sector, we can be inclined to put limits on what some of our pupils and students can achieve. Watch what Rober Grover and Richie Slack found when they implemented the 'Faster Read' at KS3 at the Nene Park Academy, free to watch! https://lnkd.in/enK6h_TY

Regional (GA/SC) Industrial & Logistics Real Estate Advisor ★ Seller & Landlord Rep ★ Buyer & Tenant Rep ★ Off-Market Availabilities ★ Analytics & Advising ★
Congrats to the good folks at Western SC | Economic Development Partnership and the South Carolina Department of Commerce! Their hard work, as is often the case, was a huge factor in getting Columbia Vehicles to locate in Aiken/SC! For those not immediately tangential to this deal like we were, I thought it might be interesting to overview from a broker's perspective how deals like this come together. - In this deal, we represented the seller. (I've included a Case Study and Video as reference for the steps we took in representing our client). Our fundamental goal as fiduciaries for our client, Fenix Manufacturing Solutions, was to maximize their return on the building. Ultimately, we ended up with two different prospective buyers at the table, both of which would've been impactful for our community. Of particular note here is the $/SF that we were able to demand for the facility, given market factors at play including limited availability of facilities. We negotiated hard using the data at our disposal. Additionally, we were able to close quickly (64 days). Glen Caulk with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough did an tremendous job representing the seller as attorney. - Video Overview Here: https://lnkd.in/ePBvZNaT - Case Study: https://lnkd.in/eXDdAdwQ - Damien Lanclos, CCIM represented the buyer, Columbia Vehicles. His role was to locate the best facility for his client, whether in the CSRA, or some other market. Damien was thorough and pushed hard for his client. Upon putting the property under contract, Damien worked diligently on behalf of his buyer to investigate the property via typical due diligence assessment and more specifically, regarding environmental concerns. Damien leveraged the Property Condition Assessment on the property to push for a reduction in the sales price, which he ultimately received. Additionally, Chris Driver and Hull Barrett, PC represented Columbia Vehicles on this deal as attorney, and were a pleasure to work with. - Western SC | Economic Development Partnership and the South Carolina Department of Commerce ensured the site was competitive nationally, balancing tax incentives with substantial community and economic benefits. There are relatively stringent requirements related to the quality and pay of jobs that are produced. While the taxes paid by the entity end up reduced, the jobs produced and the ripple effects of the income spent in the community more than offset any incentives. (I don't have visibility to what those were). This deal not only represents a significant transaction but also a strategic investment in our community’s future, demonstrating the powerful impact of collaborative economic development! #economicdevelopment #CommercialRealEstate #IndustrialRealEstate #Manufacturing #SiteSelection
Congratulations to Columbia Vehicle Group on establishing a new operation in Aiken County. Learn more at bit.ly/4dt0Zmm.

"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it". That quote is from the Bible, specifically Matthew 7:13-14. It emphasizes the idea of choosing the path less traveled for a meaningful and fulfilling life. #NarrowGate #PathLessTraveled #LifeChoices #WisdomFromScripture #JourneyOfChoices #LifePaths #RoadToPurpose #NavigatingChallenges #FindingMeaning
