The Association of Medicine and Psychiatry (AMP) needs your support! We’re advocating for the reclassification of delirium as a Major Complication or Comorbidity (MCC) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This change is crucial for better reimbursement and accurate hospital metrics representation. CMS is currently reviewing this proposal and your feedback is vital. How You Can Help: Visit the CMS comment page: CMS-2024-0131-0001 Click ‘Comment’ and express your support for designating delirium as MCC. Under ‘What is your comment about?’ select ‘Physician – HC005.’ Reference file code ‘CMS-1808-P’ in your comments. Review the CMS-1808-P PDF for additional discussion points. Encourage your colleagues to join this important cause. Deadline for Comments: June 10, 2024 Your voice can influence the outcome and ensure delirium receives the recognition it deserves in medical care. Let’s stand together for this significant cause! #ReclassifyDelirium #MedicalAdvocacy #AMP #CMSFeedback

This post has me thinking about the potential of leveraging multimodal data to gain deeper insights. By integrating data from scheduling systems, referral/order data, and patient outcome data, we can uncover patterns such as clinician over-utilization of referrals. In my experience, we often analyze these data sets in isolation. However, combining them could provide a more comprehensive understanding of underlying patterns and improve our decision-making processes.
Patient: I've been waiting months for this appointment so I wrote down my questions for you doc! 😁 Doc: Well, we only have 15 minutes together today. You will have to schedule a follow up appointment to address some of these other concerns you have. Patient: I can't! I've waited MONTHS for this appointment. And I'm gonna have to wait again! Can't we just talk about them now?? Doc: I'm sorry but we simply can't adequately address all these concerns today. Patient: PLEASE! Doc: Okay fine. Oh wow, okay these are a bit more complicated. Um...okay I've written you referrals for neurology, GI, ortho, and psychiatry. This is the fun merry-go-round doctors and patients are playing right now. *** To be clear, Direct primary care (dpc) docs don't address every health concern during a patient visit either. BUT, it is VERY EASY to schedule follow up appointments in a timely fashion with a dpc doc. AND, it is VERY EASY for patients to be in constant communication with their doc. SO, those laundry lists of concerns can ACTUALLY be addressed WITHOUT reflexively referring to specialists due to a lack of time. *** There is a time, a place, and indications for a specialist consultation. A lack of time doesn't cut it. #directprimarycare #dpc

Interested in exploring new rehabilitation practices? At CENTRE HOSPITALIER REGIONAL DE HUY, soc.civ. - Intercommunale the physical medicine department works together with patients to establish care objectives that encourage collaboration with doctors and paramedical staff. As treatment progresses, patients regularly review the objectives defined at the outset, thus becoming co-responsible for their care. This approach is being expanded to other care units, such as psychiatry, geriatrics, and maternity wards. #PatientCare #rehabilitation #HealthCare #CoCreation
