🚶♀️ 🚠 Hike Up. Gondola Down. Repeat. 🚶♀️ 🚠 Let's talk #ElevationEverest. 🗻 We didn't know the first thing about "Everesting" training until our friends Alex, Daniel, Kayla, and Paul reached out. But we certainly understand event strategy and are flattered to join the team. The first-ever event, The Half Everest, will take place on September 28, 2024, at Winter Park Resort t. Athletes can compete solo or as part of a relay team to climb half the elevation of Mt. Everest by hiking up the mountain, riding the gondola down, and repeating until they reach 14,516 ft. Celebrate in between laps and at the finish line with music, activities, and more at Base Camp. HIKE UP: Each lap up the mountain is ~1,500 ft of elevation gain and 1.9 miles long. GONDOLA DOWN: Once you reach the top, ride the gondola down to start your next lap or switch out with a team member. REPEAT: Teams and solo athletes will have 17 hours to climb the mountain a total of 10 times - accumulating 14,516 ft in elevation gain over 19 miles. Here's where it gets fun: I (Mike) opened my mouth and decided to enter a team. We have two spots left. Interested in joining? Our treat (and we consider our team quite recreational and non-competitive). Let us know in the comments if you'd like to join our relay team. After ChatGPT is done writing this post I'm going to ask it how to train for a Half-Everest. Learn more: Elevation Everest

Fascinating Way Of Prolonging Ski Seasons & Assuring World Cup Ski Racing Goes According To Schedule: Snow Secure From Ski Magazine: “The idea of storing snow has been around for centuries. Before electric refrigerators, people stored ice and snow underground to keep food cool, dating all the way back to Mesopotamia nearly four millennia ago. More recently, Finns used sawdust, wood chips, and other organic materials to insulate snow for various purposes, including winter sports. Snow Secure, which was founded in 2000 but didn’t start fabricating the blankets until 2014, saw an opportunity to take the ancient strategy and apply it to the mass market. For decades, ski resorts have been trying to combat the lack of snow with sprawling, complex, and expensive snowmaking systems. However, these systems require low outdoor temps to run and are a drain on a resort’s energy grid and water supply. Now there is a new and far simpler alternative: insulating snow blankets designed to preserve the snow surface in any temperature. Under protective coverings, piles of snow can be stored for a surprisingly long time, losing less than 30 percent of their mass throughout an entire summer. Levi Ski Resort in Finland, one of the leaders in the new endeavor, stored over a quarter million cubic meters under blankets this year, allowing the resort to more or less guarantee an opening day without new snowfall.”
