I work with CEOs, HR, IC & EX leaders to improve performance and create happy, healthy and engaged teams through the power of employee listening | Top Voice Internal Communications | Fellow IoIC
🤔 What do internal communications and #parkour athletes have in common? Quite a lot it would seem. I've been cheering my 15 year old at a parkour competition this weekend. My goodness, these athletes have no fear 🫣 They also have oodles of passion, commitment and a community that supports and encourages each other to push themselves through barriers to be their best. Parkour is an incredibly niche sport and isn't widely acknowledged yet. It means parkour athletes are working even harder to get their sport the recognition it deserves. I have seen a number of similarities between the parkour community and the IC community this weekend. I've also seen the similarities between how my son and I both promote ourselves on our chosen social media channels and in-person to build connections. This video highlights the dedication and commitment to mastering a skill... it's made me proud and humbled to see my son work so hard on just one trick, knowing he does this daily to master many, many more. My #mondaymotivation message to you is that whoever you are and whatever you're working hard at mastering... you've got this 👊 _________ 👋 I'm Jo. 💪 I will help you create a thriving culture and employee experience through the power of employee voice. 🔔 Follow me for more insights and musings on #internalcommunication, #employeeengagement, #employeexperience and #organisationalculture, and ring the bell on my profile to be notified when I post. ♻ Re-share this post if you think someone else could benefit from what it says. 🔎 Interested in working with me? Fractional Marketing Executive driving growth | former SVP, Global Marketing | Startup Advisor | Forbes Communications Council Member Leader | ex-Seismic, DocuSign, Adobe, HP Enterprise
There's a concept in the sport of rowing called seat racing. Seat racing is a technique where coaches move individuals in and out of boats to compare performance. The goal is to identify the best combination of teammates that can move the boat fastest on the water. Oftentimes when we hire, we look for the best person for the role. That's important. However, the skills and know-how to do the job is table stakes. When it comes down to evaluating final candidates, think like a crew coach, "Will one candidate elevate your team more than the others?" The most successful initiatives, especially in marketing, involve outstanding teamwork. Hire for it. #hiring #performance #team #marketing

Week 1: 3 clients with 1 role at GM Week 10: 7 clients with 2 roles at GM Week 100: 12 clients with 3 roles at GM At my peak, I did over 30 posts every week. Was I burnt out? Stressed? Overworked? Not at all. I was simply operating at my best. In fact, I was traveling to different places every month. Halloween in Singapore. Snowboarding in Japan. Canyoneering in Cebu. Cliffdiving in Boracay. How? I did the work to accomplish the initial hump. I kept learning and analyzing my 3+ clients. I observed how top performers worked. I pushed to generate results. Not just deliver posts. Over time, the process became simpler. Until I could write 12 posts in a day... and still travel.

Our MD, Danielle McLaren, has sparked an interesting conversation about management styles and whether there's a "winning" approach to leading a team. We'd love to hear from YOU! What's your go-to management style? Do you have a favourite approach that consistently yields great results, or do you tailor your style to fit the circumstances? Join the conversation and share your insights⬇️ #yacht #yachting #yachtcrew #yachtingindustry #yachtcrewjobs #workingonsuperyachts #yachtingjobs #yotspot #management #managementstyle
🛥 Is there a winning style of management? 🛥 A former boss once told me 'Your confidence is greater than your ability.' Well yes.... It's how I've gone through life 😂 Whilst his sentiment was perhaps correct (although I definitely have big moments of self doubt but am great at fronting it out), if I was to deliver the same feedback I would say 'How can we upskill you, so your ability is inline with your amazing confidence?' Personally, I hope to be direct, hands off but approachable, whilst building a culture of collaboration (one team, one dream is a fav in the Yotspot - The leading jobs board for the yachting industry office). I've been so lucky to work for some amazing companies and seen firsthand how empowering team members and a collaborative environment can lead to innovation, high morale and success! I've also very much seen some bad examples too 😫 If anyone would like to share some bad or great examples you know what to do 👇 #Superyachtjobs #Superyachtrecruitment #Yotspot #Superyachts #Superyachtindustry #Superyachtcaptain #businessleaders

🤿 Does scuba diving and team management have anything in common? For the past two years, I've been tracking my habits ranging from morning gym and evening yoga with meditation to healthier eating habits and reading. This year I want to expand the list to consistently working on my personal branding and make my social media... well, social again. Having written altogether one (!!!) post in 10 years on Linkedin, this seemed like an unachievable goal. Luckily here at Bolt, we have plenty of options to explore outside of our core responsibilities, such as the LinkedIn Challenge. The idea is simple: join a diverse team, post twice a month, support each other and learn. I've been managing teams in different industries for 11 years. Also, I've been diving for the past 3. It took me some time to realise there is a lot you can learn professionally from your hobby, no matter how unrelatable those two are. Scuba diving has certainly expanded my understanding of: 👉 Preparation & Planning 👉 Communication 👉 Adaptability 👉 Leadership 👉 Risk Management 👉 Trust & Teamwork 👉 Continuous Learning Over the next several months I will be writing about each of these areas in detail and hopefully inspire you along the way. That's my giant stride into the unknown, as was my actual first step into the ocean 3 years ago. 🫵 What has your hobby taught you that helped in your professional career?

What a great post! I love the point Nate Williams made regarding the importance of background stories. We all have a story to tell, and it's important to share it with others. Let's be intentional about connecting and sharing our stories!!! #TellYourStory
Summer is here!! What immediately comes to mind for me is camping. Every summer when I was a kid, I spent lots of weekends camping. Like real camping. Pitching tents, cooking on a Coleman stove, skipping rocks on the lake. But what stands out in all these memories are the s’mores and campfires. Now a great s’more for me is letting the marshmallow catch fire for about 2 seconds and then blowing it out. Then immediately mashing it between two graham crackers with the piece of Hershey’s chocolate inside. Mmmmm delicious!! I’m sure there are many other ways to dress up s’mores but this was my recipe. Outside of the deliciousness that is s’mores, what I also enjoyed was sitting around the campfire connecting and learning about each other through stories. The background story has always been the thing that has captivated me. Think about it, Marc Benioff had the idea to start Salesforce while swimming with Dolphins. Phil Knight started Nike because he hated the current offering of running shoes and felt he could design a lighter more comfortable version. The background story matters! You might know me through our times on the front lines as a CS practitioner or by way of CS recruiting; either way, I’m always curious about your story, specifically your background story. I say all this to say, we all have a story. We all took a left when maybe we should have taken a right. Or you took a right because it was needed to get to where you are now. All those decisions (right or wrong), have you in the place your are now. Whether you are thriving in your career or you’re currently on the hunt for your next opportunity, tell your story. It provides really good insight into who you are, what you want and where you want to go. Who doesn’t like a good story?!! #TellYourStory #CustomerSuccess #CustomerSuccessRecruiter #HelpingCSfindJobs

Imagine diving headfirst into an ocean. That’s exactly what working with a startup feels like. It sounds entertaining but believe me it's equally difficult and demanding. It is like: → a new challenge every day → juggling between responsibilities → continuous thinking on my feet Marketing, sales, product development, and HR. I’ve worn so many hats. Simply put, it’s a Playground - exploration, experimentation, and growth. But growth doesn’t happen like that just by being a part of something. 4 simple things you need to leverage any opportunity. 4/ Pay attention to the details around you 3/ Seek for mentorship from your seniors 2/ Open mind towards people and new tasks 1/ Take ownership as much as you can P.S.: What do you like the most about your work?
