I totally agree with you Tom Parker on many fronts. A one-size fits all staffing model unfairly ties a facility's proverbial hands behind their backs given the need to take into account resident's diverse requirements, geographic/demographic differences, facility size and core competencies within a building. All of that has to be dealt with before any consideration can be given to team member preferences to promote retention. Flexibility and adaptability are essential for long term care providers to survive. They need the ability to be agile and pivot based upon their needs NOT another barrier. #skillednursingfacilities #ltcstaffing #ahca #ahcancal
During a recent U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing, lawmakers expressed extreme concern over CMS' finalization of the federal minimum staffing rule. Members explained how a one-size-fits-all government mandate does nothing to help nursing homes recruit and retain more caregivers and will only limit access to care for seniors by causing facilities to limit their admissions or close altogether. See what lawmakers said at the hearing.

An Illinois #nursinghome has asked the state’s Supreme Court to adopt a broad interpretation of a COVID-19 #immunity provision, arguing that the governor “knew how” to include more limitations in a 2020 executive order had he intended to do so. The court’s decision will be closely watched as other states grapple with exactly how to interpret executive orders and emergency management provisions that offered healthcare providers protections in exchange for their continued acceptance of COVID patients. Excelas’ robust Comprehensive Integrated Timeline Tool (CITT, pronounced “kit”) allows clients to incorporate key data with guidelines, regulations and standards in a variety of situations, including COVID. #health #healthcare #emergencypreparednes #governorsorder #covid #covid19 #executiveorders #regulatorycompliance Jean Bourgeois, MBA, RHIA Beth Wilson Cathy Napoli Sharon Ezzone, MBA Grace Jindra Melinda Mallari Carey Marousek https://lnkd.in/ddDq4UTU

Starmer’s plan is ambitious, but let's be real the NHS is hanging by a thread, and talk of ‘reform or die’ is long overdue. The real question is, can these reforms be made without squeezing working people even further? It's not enough to simply lay out a 10-year vision. We need immediate, bold action to address the deep-rooted issues now before the system completely collapses under the weight of endless waiting lists and inefficiency. The NHS is at a critical fork in the road, and if this plan doesn’t deliver, we’re heading for disaster. https://lnkd.in/etFs8tKs

This is an excellent article explaining the decline of SNFs (mostly in New England, but the points made relate to all the states). There is no hyperbole or exclamation points, just a concise step-by-step explanation. Left out: Any solution to strengthen just one more pillar of a slowly-exploding healthcare crisis. https://lnkd.in/gEd9PzQC

Errol Archer is the voice of reason, insight and sophistication when it comes to health and social care regulation. I had the pleasure of working with Errol a few years ago and the points he makes here, following Dr Penny Dash’s report into the Care Quality Commission, are on point. The changes needed in health and social care can only start with the truth. https://lnkd.in/dwfKbdCF
Regulatory Solicitor, healthcare sector, specialising in regulatory matters relating to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Ofsted, and GMC and NMC professional disciplinary matters concerning Doctors and Nurses
Ministers stunned at CQC’s failings and declare it “not fit for purpose” It’s about time that the government gets a grip on the flawed inspections and the many blinkered and unreasonable inspectors that have found their way into crucial roles inspecting hospitals and care homes having, in one case never stepped into a hospital and another having never met a person with dementia. This may come as a surprise to the new Secretary of State but leaders, operators and professionals in the sector know these failings all too well and have been raising concerns about them for years. Let’s hope that this government doesn’t brush these many concerns aside or ignore the sector’s suggestions on how the regulator can improve. Patient safety is too important for it to be regulated so poorly. The Times reports Wes Streeting saying “When I joined the department, it was already clear that the NHS was broken and the social care system in crisis. But I have been stunned by the extent of the failings of the institution that is supposed to identify and act on failings. It’s clear to me the CQC is not fit for purpose.” Bhavna Keane Rao BKRCC Charlie Jones Tony Thiru Issac Theophilos Nadra Ahmed CBE DL 💚 David Pojur Simon Butler Simon Cavadino Simon Crowther Prof Martin Green Lucy Corner Lucy Scott-Moncrieff CBE Fae Mell 🌻 Jane Townson OBE Heledd Wyn Karolina Gerlich FRSA Julie King Estelle Richardson-McColl Darren Pollard Rachael Anstee Roger Waluube https://lnkd.in/eykJ3qWp.

What impact will the new administration have on senior care in the U.S.? While organizations like AHCA/NCAL and LeadingAge are cautiously optimistic about a reversal of the staffing mandate, it’s still too early to tell, and they urge lawmakers and the healthcare industry to continue advocating for solutions to protect and enhance access to high-quality care for residents. Check out the article in Skilled Nursing News to learn more about what this means for the industry: https://bit.ly/4gjiyWm
