First things first, identifying the root cause of a heated discussion is crucial. Remember, it's vital to depersonalize the matter at hand. By objectifying the problem, we can effectively concentrate on finding solutions. Embracing diverse viewpoints and exploring the benefits they bring can lead us to a resolution. To solve a problem, it is important to understand the problem and its implications; once that is done, then we can focus on the solution. #ProblemSolving #Perspectives #Collaboration

The path to breakthrough comes from tapping into the insights of the people you’re collaborating with. We are all surrounded by collective intelligence, but this wisdom too often stays hidden from us if we don’t ask for it. Of course, once you ask, be prepared to listen deeply to their answers and learn from what you hear. When someone pushes back your idea without an explanation- ask - What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of this idea? - What potential downsides am I overlooking? #conflict #managingconflicts #collaboration #teamwork #conversationalintelligence #eq #emotionalintelligence #executivepresence This article by Jeff Wetzler gives some very practical and needed tools for collaboration. https://lnkd.in/gxvcnZ5X

Too many people respond to questions they don't understand by acting like the question is stupid. But what they're really doing is stifling the different perspectives that are at the heart of collaboration. I used to do this, myself, but have since trained myself that if I don't understand why a question is being asked, I respond, "why are you asking that?" Assume everyone has value and insights to offer. Because they do.

What do you do if your team members are constantly in conflict? In my experience, these help in #collaboration and resolving #conflicts: 1. Initiate an open forum discussion and a #brainstorming session. 2. Use a #whiteboard, jolt the pointers for discussions. 3. Ask the audience to sit on sides depending on the pointers they support. 4. Uprightly, state the rules and code of conduct setting the #tone for respectful communication. 5. Set a #feedback mechanism for improvement ensuring everyone’s thoughts are heard.

Disagreements are inevitable, especially in high-pressure environments like finance. However, escalating arguments rarely leads to productive outcomes. For instance, if a team member challenges the idea you have proposed, rather than engaging in a heated debate, approach the situation with curiosity. Ask questions like, “Can you share more details about your concerns?” or “How do you think we could address this issue effectively?” By doing so, we can often discover insights that improve our understanding of the situation. Avoiding arguments doesn’t mean avoiding difficult conversations; instead, it’s about steering the discussion toward collaboration and shared goals. This approach ensures we focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on differences. #Workplace #arguments #communication #strategy #Collaboration #Principle1
