5 essential rules to give feedback: Original Content Creator: Scot Chisholm (give him a follow) -------- 1️⃣ Feedback must lead to positive action This is the golden rule. Provide clear, actionable steps that they can work towards. Your delivery matters. Leaders seek to build people up, not tear them down. If your feedback can't be flipped into a win, everyone loses. 2️⃣ Two-way communication Constructive, critical feedback is a dialogue, not a monologue. And if you're doing all the talking, you're doing it wrong. In-person is best, video calls are solid, and phone calls are so-so. Some methods you should avoid at all costs: • Emails are bad • Slack is worse • Texts are horrible (and cowardly) Two-way communication enables you to gauge reactions and adjust as needed. 3️⃣ Don't sit on it The old-school annual review is outdated and dying. Feedback gets stale. Or frustrations bottle up and then explode. Give feedback ASAP. A regularly scheduled 1x1 feedback meeting is great, but you don't always need to wait for them. 4️⃣ Be clear and specific Focus on actual examples: 1) "When [XYZ] happened..." 2) Explain the effects on the team - "I'm not sure you realized it, but it had [XYZ effect]" 3) Pause to let them take it in Don't say it 3 different ways and labor the point. If they need more details, they'll ask. 5️⃣ End on a positive note Transition with, "Here's what I'd love to see..." Then ask if they think the feedback is fair. Invite feedback on yourself. "Is there something I could have done better as your manager here?" It's a two-way street. Hold each other accountable constructively. Focus on growth and solutions and don't bottle it up until you boil over. Give people the time and resources to improve, and be receptive to receiving feedback. But when it came time for client feedback, I'd hesitate. What if they hated it? What if I missed the mark completely? Though I always try to submit my work with full confidence. But..... _______________________◇ A few days back I shared a post about a project, and I shared about my client that he doesn't know about the Old and New SEO. I completed the project after giving some briefs to the client about NEW SEO. The Project is Still going well. But this is something You always wanted to listen to after completing your first piece for a new client! "𝐊 𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐤𝐚𝐚𝐦 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐡𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐢 𝐊𝐚𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐤 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐡𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐢""! So, I took a deep breath and asked the client: "Feedback on the content?' The response made me so happy!!! He loved it... The thing I learned: 1. Feedback isn't criticism—it's collaboration. 2. Clients often see angles we miss. 3. Hesitation only breeds anxiety. I ask for feedback early and often mostly. Doing so will improve your work, strengthen client relationships, and—surprisingly—boost your confidence. This Feedback has made my day🤩🥂 P.S. How do you approach client feedback? Leadership is about turning yesterday's lesson into a plan for tomorrow. When a #copywriter asks me what skill is important to growing their career, my answer is rationale. Over time a creative will become adept at breaking down a brief to its key components and using those to build an interesting solution. That's the best part for some of us. This person is a champion on your team, but are they a leader? The ability to crack a brief is not enough—you need to understand why your ideas show promise. You can work this muscle by reviewing #advertising from other agencies. 💡 Check out an ad and write down what you notice first. What's working? What feels odd? Who does this seem to be for, exactly, and how is the ad connecting with them? Is there something you think could be done to add even more impact? For best results, do this with a team. Not only will you become a stronger leader, you'll inspire more junior creatives to see the strategy behind the work. 🏗️ Practice what you learn. The best way to test your understanding is to apply the concepts. Creative exercises are a low-stakes way to employ new strategies, as well as spec work, and of course actual projects. Progress can start small. Ask how your messaging can better connect to the audience with examples from what you saw before in mind. The key is starting. 📝 Create a framework. The call for efficiency isn't exactly conducive for creativity. However, we *can* use process to allow us to focus less on the "boring bits" and more on making cool 💩. This can mean building templates, collecting thought starters, and even using tailoring your approach to the work to the specific ask. The point here is documenting your learnings and practice to create a system for your team to follow—not a rigid thing, but a foundation on which to build. Creative leadership is exciting. It's all about revealing patterns, inspiring fresh ideas, and pushing the boundaries. Sure, it's conceptual. But one could say it's the difference between asking, "How do we do this?" and "What can we try this time?" #leadership #agencylife #professionaldevelopment

I have had the opportunity to speak with people in 103 countries! For someone who fears flying, it feels like I have visited every corner of the earth! ✈ It is astonishing how American Corporate Culture has such a powerful impact and I don't say this with complete optimism. 𝐹𝑟𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑙𝑦, 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐶𝑜𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑛𝑒𝑔𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑖𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑐𝑡 𝑖𝑠. I am also beginning to see clear and distinct patterns emerge regarding leadership and management. 🗣 It is easy to forget or take for granted one's influence and the responsibility that goes along with it. 𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭, 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. We can all grow and improve how we relate to the world but I don't know if we always take the time to realize the extent of our influence or reach. It has been reflected to me nearly every day for months and I am better for this raised awareness. 🌐 Without calling anyone out by name, there are a few American-based, global businesses that simply need to do better. I speak to too many of your employees and managers and they are miserable. You are making them physically ill. 𝑯𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒍𝒚, 𝒃𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓. 🤷♀️ A lot of the people I speak with take my 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 before our consultation. Here's how to have hard conversations and care for your co-workers: "Say what you mean without being mean" A simple formula. So, why is it so hard for people to hold each other accountable yet to preserve the relationship? Ego? Values? Worldview? Confidence? Maybe all of it. Having a structure to lean on is a powerful way to create a safe space and build confidence. That's where Radical Candor comes in. A framework to take a step forward and help others deliver their best work. More than that, it's being kind to everyone involved. Try Kim Scott's 3-step approach: 1) Ask for feedback - What’s working and what to stop - Maybe you’re the one in the wrong 2) Give feedback - What’s working and what to stop - Tell people when their work isn’t good enough 3) See how it lands - If being dismissed, increase directness - If they are sad or angry, increase caring and stay curious The benefits: 1.
