Is completing a project on time the biggest determinant of success? Of course, it’s important… But in my experience, finishing a construction project on schedule is not a good standalone measurement of project success. Especially if your teams suffered to get there. If you ask me, meeting project deadlines is important, but not at the expense of happiness, safety, or quality. A true measure of success considers these metrics: 🧱 A happy project team If everyone is happy and proud at the closing of a project, that’s a great sign. But this is only possible if the team lead has created a positive work environment where employees feel valued and supported. If your team is overwhelmed and burnt out? Something may have been mismanaged on the project. 🧱 A happy client Sure, finishing the project on time will contribute to your client feeling happy, but it’s not the only metric they are measuring you by. If you’ve gone above and beyond, formed meaningful connections, and managed expectations appropriately throughout the project, then they’re going to be happy. And as a bonus? The client is probably a lot more forgiving of delays, if any. 🧱 A safe team A project can’t be deemed successful if people aren’t safe from start to finish. The team’s safety needs to be your top priority. 🧱 A high-quality build When projects are executed successfully, they are built to a high standard. When a project is done right the first time - even if delayed - clients are always satisfied. Ultimately, all of these things must be true for a project to be considered a success.
