What I have learned from doing an internship🎓 Put knowledge and skills into practice. 💡 From conducting comprehensive competitor analysis research, to designing a marketing and communication plan, my knowledge of business and marketing theories was transformed into a series of practical techniques and skills that I can now implement in real-life business scenarios, all thanks to my internship. 🚀 2. The benefits of networking 🤝 During my internship, I learned how to communicate and build relationships with the people I worked with. I learned how to introduce myself, talk about my interests, knowledge and skills with entrepreneurs and business owners, as well as how to ask questions and gain a better understanding of businesses not only in the co-working space, but also others in the market. 🌐 3. Understanding workplace culture 🌐 Culture influences communication, and as an international student, I learned that every company or organisation has its own culture. It’s essential to observe others and learn how they engage and interact with co-workers, or help them with projects and tasks. I quickly learned that whenever something is unclear for me, or I don’t understand, it’s fine to ask for clarification. 🤔👍 4. Enthusiasm is invaluable ✨ As an intern, I discovered it’s essential to be enthusiastic and open to learning new skills, asking for more work and being curious to learn and ask questions. This attitude will show that you enjoy being part of the team and that you're keen to help. 🌟🙌 5.Keeping a journal is great for personal growth 📓 During my internship, I had a journal and took notes every day about new things I learned, feedback I was given by my manager, strengths and weaknesses I noticed, and things I wanted to research and learn more about. This helped me understand myself more and identify the areas that I needed to improve in. 📝💡 6. 🗣️🔑 How important good communication is Communication is the key to success in a professional environment. I learned that it’s important to communicate with my manager via phone, email or SMS if I have questions or if I don’t know how to work on a task. Asking for help and clarification is better than pretending you’ve understood what you need to do, no matter what. However, I also found that if you can Google something, then do. Avoiding asking questions if you can find answers elsewhere is part of being a good communicator. 🤔📱📧 7. 🔄💡 The benefits of taking on feedback Asking for and receiving professional feedback is crucial. Note both positive and negative points to grow in your career. It might be tough to hear, but it shapes your future success. 🌟📈 Grateful for the valuable lessons learned during my internship! 🙏🎓

Internship coming up? 10 best pieces of advice I've received: 1. Your role is first to learn and then to create impact. Not the other way around. 2. Listen more than you talk. 3. Some of this I agree with, some of it I do not. Here are my opinions. Internships at many big companies are a competitive business. Do not leave it to the last minute, research the process well in advance, and know your application dates. Lean on your network to find out what recruiters are looking for. Interviewing is a skill. Most people aren't good at it, so practice is essential. There is some great literature out there; find a friend, and practice interviewing each other. Not all employers are the same. Personal opinion: you should always be paid for your labour, and you should never work for free. Some employers will set you up with a toy project that will be discarded after you leave. Other companies will have you work on something that matters, and that will live on after you leave. The latter kind is better. Asking informed questions is much better than asking basic questions, but anything is better than being stuck unable to make progress. Search for the answers by yourself first, learn how to frame your question, and then ask your mentor. It's fine to make mistakes. I fell into several of the pitfalls mentioned above, so it's not like I'm perfect, but on the other hand, this is where I learned these lessons. Maybe you can get a head start by learning from mine, before learning your own.

Making the most out of your internship The primary value of this opportunity is to learn practical work skills, to try out a potential profession to see if it fits, and to begin to create a track record of work experience that may help you build a career. It helps if you have a good mentor to guide your experience, but how much you get out of this will depend almost entirely on your abilities and enthusiasm to learn. Don't get hung up about compensation as that will come later, if you can turn this into the learning experience you need it to be. Remember always, the relationship is two-way. For employers the success or failure of this experience will hinge mostly on your willingness and ability to make yourself useful.
