As VM puts together its first official internship for the summer, we've thoughtfully crafted a program that allows the student to learn and grow, not just do tasks. The music industry can be a chaotic and get-it-done type environment, but it's still important to consider the growth of every employee, no matter the level. So, we've put together a program where our intern will learn alongside getting hands-on experience. We also considered what we wish we got out of our internships when we were in school. What do you wish you learned or got to experience when you were doing summer internships or were in your first professional role? #musicindustry #summerinternship #growth #learning #nomorelines

As I look back on my time as Chair of Filmmaking, I’ve thoroughly believed in connecting our program and students to the media industry, especially as we’re here in Los Angeles. I’ve spent so much time reaching out to friends and colleagues to do just that because I think that's important to do. I’ve found them so supportive. The result? Two wonderful partners for our program and thus our school in Warner Bros Discovery and Sony. Donations to our program from Warner Bros Discovery, Sony, Disney, DreamWorks, and Final Draft. Visits for our students to Paramount (12 times), Warner-Discovery, IMAX (3 times), NBCUniversal (twice), Disney, CBS, and YouTube. How does that connect to student careers and learning? I believe that when you really connect with the industry, you understand it more, and that makes you simply a better candidate for it. I don’t even think you should work for major media companies, but please know you could. I really didn’t think so when I first started, and I didn’t really try. I wish I had that belief, though it all turned out well for me. My posts here are a small attempt to explain how you can do so. Please keep in mind that we’re a small and new program, and below is where our students have interned in recent years. Is this all connected? I’ve seen student internships turn directly into jobs so many times and graduates work at places I first brought them to as students. Experience is educational - learning by osmosis. #woodbury #woodnuryfilmmaking #mediacareers #students #internships #entertainment

I rarely speak about how big of a problem public speaking was for me just a few years ago. I remember the first time I had to present my project during a summer internship at Coca-Cola HBC—I was dying inside. I had the greatest fear that I would say something wrong or that somebody would ask me something I wasn't sure how to respond to. Things that helped me: -The topic you're speaking about is usually something you really know and have prepared for. Don't be afraid to share it. No one knows everything, and it's fine to leave room for further learning and research. -What's the worst thing that could happen? To become a meme? Being a meme in today's culture doesn't seem like much of a problem 😁 After three years, countless trainings, and presentations I've had the opportunity to give, I can't even remember a particular one when I overcame this fear and just became confident enough. Seems like the hair color is not the only change I made over the years 😅 #publicspeaking #growth #trainings

Hi connections, What's up 🤔? This post is to share some insights for newcomers who are about to start an office internship. Keep these tips in mind while joining an internship, unlike me who messed up. I want to give you some advice 😁: 1. Buddy, I know you are expecting some clichés from the life of Bollywood. Just don’t expect that—your life is going to be a little hard. 2. Don't overshare. No one is your friend there; you are not there to make friends. You can only have some great or some bad colleagues in the company. 3. Be confident every day, but especially stay confident on your first day. While introducing yourself to your fellow colleagues, be loud and clear. it will create a good impression of yours 👍. 4. Don't be oversmart. If you don't know something, try to ask and learn. Everyone wants you to learn, but no one is going to help you every time with the same thing. So try to learn fast because no one is going to stop for you. You have to be quick. 5. Be kind. Yes, that’s the last but not the least. Every person will remember you for your kindness 😁. I expect you to follow this because I didn’t follow it correctly and messed up. But I’m trying to improve because there is a saying: nothing in this world is so broken that it can't be fixed.
