“ what excites me about this internship and here is a brief description of the internship businesses?” What excites me about this internship is that I get real world experience. I get to do things that will help me in my future career. It gives me an insight view that I wouldn’t have without doing the internship. I get to choreograph dances and space them and it gives me great teaching experience. I get to design posters for upcoming events which gives me increased knowledge on graphics. I get to communicate with studio directors and get experience with guests choreographers.

Remote internship applications now open! Link to apply here: https://lnkd.in/epP9XwKY “Mentored practical experience is largely missing from the film industry, especially for those looking to follow a path into independent film. Opportunities to learn by doing is how my career grew, and I love keeping that path open for others!” - Koura Linda, Founder & CEO Space Dream Productions The Space Dream Productions leadership team has over 50 years combined experience in the film industry and knows the value of hands-on learning. For this reason, our Internships are true internships, not go-get-coffee and do random tasks. Interns work directly with Space Dream Productions staff, getting trained and apprenticed on various aspects of film production and running a production company. They are expected to use the time during the internship to learn and grow in the areas they are interning in. By the end of each internship, interns should be able to professionally perform basic tasks, having gained familiarity both in their field and with the administrative side of professional work. Past interns have attended the Sundance Film Festival and other film festivals and film premieres with our team, built their IMDb pages, been nominated for or been part of winning awards for their work on our films, and worked on multi-award winning films and other projects. From past interns: “On a recent film set, the Director and Producer kept looking to me when they had a question. Because of my experience on the Internship, I usually had the answer.” "I went into the internship afraid that I wouldn't be able to keep up or perform exceptionally... Instead, I found an accepting and accommodating environment where I learned a lot about [the area of my internship], film, and myself." “Koura and her team are so supportive. They've really taught me that anyone can be a filmmaker. All you need are courage and creativity and an idea.” Please feel free to share with anyone who might be interested! A WARNING TO ALL WANTING TO GET INTO THE FILM INDUSTRY!!! Recently I have being seeing a lot of posts offering 'competitions to produce your short film' and 'Remote Internships' These are cons! Think about it. You are going to be working for free and gaining NOTHING. These competitions and remote internships are for 'production companies' that are one man bands and are the biggest dreamers out there. They will not give you any new skills or training, they will not teach you about the real film industry and are just taking the talent you have and bleeding it dry and you are gaining nothing. Not even a credit on a reptable production. Make sure you do a deep dive into the companies offering these stupid opertunities. There are some big and decent companies offering competitions and internships that will pay you for your services and/or teach you lots! I am a one man band. I will not be offering any competitions or oppertunities for people to work for me for free! When the time comes all employees will be paid, even the Interns! If you want to get into the industry but dont know how, reach out. I've been in the industry nearly 20 years (you can check my IMDB etc.) I might be able to point you in the right direction. I might not be able to, but worth a reach out!

As I look back on my time as Chair of Filmmaking, I’ve thoroughly believed in connecting our program and students to the media industry, especially as we’re here in Los Angeles. I’ve spent so much time reaching out to friends and colleagues to do just that because I think that's important to do. I’ve found them so supportive. The result? Two wonderful partners for our program and thus our school in Warner Bros Discovery and Sony. Donations to our program from Warner Bros Discovery, Sony, Disney, DreamWorks, and Final Draft. Visits for our students to Paramount (12 times), Warner-Discovery, IMAX (3 times), NBCUniversal (twice), Disney, CBS, and YouTube. How does that connect to student careers and learning? I believe that when you really connect with the industry, you understand it more, and that makes you simply a better candidate for it. I don’t even think you should work for major media companies, but please know you could. I really didn’t think so when I first started, and I didn’t really try. I wish I had that belief, though it all turned out well for me. My posts here are a small attempt to explain how you can do so. Please keep in mind that we’re a small and new program, and below is where our students have interned in recent years. Is this all connected? I’ve seen student internships turn directly into jobs so many times and graduates work at places I first brought them to as students. Experience is educational - learning by osmosis. #woodbury #woodnuryfilmmaking #mediacareers #students #internships #entertainment

Internships can lead to first professional career job opportunities. Helping to close income gaps in the US for diverse and rising talent. Closing job income gaps for diverse communities in our country is a BIG net positive. Over the last 3-years, AfroAnimation has had the fortunes of having 3 up-and-coming career professionals and very talented young ladies as interns. They gave/giving their time in exchange for in-the-trenches learning and training. The results: Nikiiyah Gest went on to work for Sony Pictures Animation in 2022, Rheanna Toney was hired by Nickelodeon in 4Q 2023 and Alexis White, recent grad from Howard University with a 4.0 is currently interning at AfroAnimation. Imagine, if collectively companies and organizations opened the flood gates by 10% to 15% now to more internships, apprenticeships, mentorships and training in our country. Corporate leaders and organizations would expand and continuously create a pipeline of ready-to-go diverse talent for the US job market, reflecting the true fabric and mix make-up of our country. Leveling the playing field to "access" for verifiable proven talent from different backgrounds and experiences is part of the construct spirit of being an American and results in long-term economic net benefits to the US economy, worth billions, in my opinion. Not an economist, but what I know for certain, having worked directly with these young ladies; Nikiiyah, Rheanna and Alexis, way smarter than me, when I was at their age. I can only imagine what they will achieve in their careers in the future. #afroanimation #internships #jobs #equity #sonypictures #nickelodeon
