Communication - it's important to consider how we communicate externally, with others and be aware of how our words and behaviour impacts and influences others. And it's perhaps equally as important to be aware of our internal communication, how we speak to ourselves as this affects our behaviour and depending on the tone, can make life easier or more challenging. https://lnkd.in/erHvkqEX

One principle of effective communications is know your audience and tailor your approach to their needs, preferences, or style. Otherwise, your message won’t land for the impact you want. It’s not about being inauthentic or fake, rather, it’s about being aware that different strokes work for different folks and there is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach to communication. This article provides tips for effective communication based on the style of the person you’re interacting with. Hope you find it useful. #interpersonalcommunication #workplacecommunications

I absolutely love what I do. Daily I get to delve into the communication issues that arise in everyday work environments and get to facilitate the awareness, skill-growth and change of professionals that are driven to make a difference. I love it! My fascination with the role of communication started early. I am remembered as a child that loved to talk apparently. I remember also loving to listen. I'd sit in the middle of the room, as a little kid, filled with the bustle of family interaction and cheerful child's play. While I could completely lose myself in the world of books, I was even more fascinated by the real world stories unfolding right in front of me. I'd sit there and watch...the shades, the looks, the gestures, the postures, the rhythms of conversations and connection. I'd sit and listen...to the cadence, the tone, the laughter, the different 'colors' and sounds of emotion and experiences. I'd be in admiration of those who could command a room. I'd wonder about those who seemed to disappear in it. I would experiment with the effects it had when I tried to draw attention to myself or divert it to others. There was so much to experience, enjoy, explore, to learn! I think it was there the foundation was laid. For what I love to do now. 👆🏾 I believe that if people learn the basic communication principles and build the skills that help them to communicate more effectively, they tremendously enhance their success in business AND life. 👉🏾 This is why I want to make these communication principles and skills available to as many people as possible. 🫵🏾 My attention goes out specifically to business owners like myself, because of the profound impact they make in the lives of their families, their clients and through those, the world. 💡SPOTLIGHT ON 💡That is WHY I am launching IT... My new online course! 👋🏾 My program the Ultimate Communication Guide is my personal commitment to making the world a better communicating place! Principal Consultant @ Shortlist | Connecting talent to opportunity across Africa, Asia, & beyond (we're always hiring!)
The other day I gave a small talk on effective communication, and had a bit of an epiphany. I thought I was nailing the presentation, but mid-talk something happened that made me realize that effective communication is not as simple as I was making it out to be. Attendees were fully engaged and asking great questions. One of the best questions was about cultural sensitivities and differences when communicating. This one question made me realize an uncomfortable truth about my presentation that I had completely missed. I had spent time putting together talking points, slides, and stories, but hadn’t even briefly considered how the communication style I was advocating as "effective" might be perceived across different cultures. Things like direct eye contact, a firm handshake, and assertive body posture all seemed like straightforward aspects of effective communication to my western brain. But the question and following examples the attendee gave made me realize that in many cultures, these things can across as prideful, brash, or even disrespectful. My big takeaway was that effective communication is about more than just speaking well. It’s also about truly listening, observing, and understanding the perspectives and cultural context of your audience. It’s not just about what you say, but how you say it and how it will be received. We all have different perspectives that are partially shaped by culture. It’s our responsibility as communicators to be mindful of that and to try as best as possible to adjust our communication accordingly so we can build more impactful and meaningful connections.

An Effective communication is vital in our dynamic world, impacting personal and professional success. So, here’s how you can think in a structured way i.e., a well-crafted structure in your message should be able to -Enhance clarity, -Aids retention, -Promotes persuasion, -Improves efficiency, and -Reduces communication anxiety. In short It should act as a roadmap, guiding both communicator and listener. Also you could apply the "What, So What, Now What" framework which I recently learned about ,which talks about a flexible structure for effective communication. It comprises three questions:- What (describe facts), So What (discuss implications for the audience), and Now What (outline call-to-action). This structure aids in organizing thoughts and guides the audience through information, as illustrated in scenarios like introductions, answering questions, and giving feedback. Mastering this approach ensures clear, prioritized messages that are not only heard but internalized and acted upon in diverse communication situations. And also it needs a lot of practice firstly it might not be as effective but as you start thinking and applying this approach you can see a lot changes in your communication skills in a corporate as well as personal world. -Thanks for reading this end. #communicationskills #effectivecommunication

There are two possible ways of communication – External and Internal. External communication is helpful in conveying our intentions and thoughts to others while internal communication helps us in establishing our intentions and thoughts at the very first place. The internal communication brings about awareness, the ability to be conscious of our opinion about self. When we communicate to ourselves internally, initially we are full of expectations, doubts, fears, and desires, then with the deeper understanding of our own thoughts, we recognize and realize our true intentions which helps us in channelizing our energy to produce the right kind of thoughts and thereby bring about the correction in our intentions. These thoughts are then effectively communicated to the medium. With the constant practice of positive self-talk, the effective external communication becomes the bi-product of internal communication. Then our intentions, thoughts and words do not vary, they are streamlined with our belief system which defines our character. The internal communication defines one’s own sense of individuality, belief system, and personal characteristics. It is amazing that a man can communicate with himself as well as with the outer environment through his intentions, thoughts, feelings, actions, and also energy. On an average, each person is born with similar intellectual abilities but it is the way how he uses his power of internal communication to get the work done with clear and precise external communication. In this ever changing and challenging world, the life keeps putting new challenges on our path for our self-growth and development. The practice of internalizing the challenges happening in the outer environment and process it with internal communication helps us in handling any situation effectively and gracefully. The way that a person learns to communicate with self and thereby with the environment determines the scope and extent of the development of his interpersonal, informational, and decisional competencies. #Communicationskills #corporatewellness #selfgrowth #traininganddevelopment #learning #communication

💬 Would you agree? A quote shared today from interviews with our organization about internal communications. Spot on. Consistency and transparency, two key ingredients for well-functioning internal communications. 3 tips to achieve this: 1️⃣ Regular updates: → Create a communication structure, a consistent schedule for updates to build trust and predictability. → Utilize already existing channels and meeting foras instead of inventing new ones all the time, it becomes ad hoc. → Different people prefer different channels, consider your target group and how to best approach them. Some like written information, some prefer a meetings to discuss, some like film. Consider what type of message you have and what effect you want to get, different channels have different purposes. 2️⃣ Easy to understand: → Use simple, jargon-free language and avoid abbreviations. Visual support like infographics and videos can help get the message across. → Structure updates with clear headlines, summaries, and sections to keep everyone engaged. 3️⃣ Encourage interaction: → Listen to your team, to your organization. → Create opportunities for employees to ask questions and provide input. → Adjust your communication structure based on feedback, continuous improvements. I think we all want a culture of open and effective communication. Thanks for a brilliant summary of the interviews today Jens Åberg, Myra Weenink, Åsa Ruhr Myers, Elaine Bouckley 🙌🏼🤩 → What tips would you add to the list? #Leadership #Communication #Transparency
