🧩 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 🧩 Leaders often struggle to convey their company’s strategy effectively. According to Constantinos C. Markides and Andrew MacLennan in their HBR article "3 Ways to Clearly Communicate Your Company’s Strategy," executives need to provide context for their strategic choices. Here are three impactful methods to enhance understanding and engagement: 1. 𝑆ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑅𝑒𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑂𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠: When presenting a strategy, also discuss the alternatives that were considered and why they were not chosen. This not only clarifies the chosen path but also provides insight into the decision-making process. 2. 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑃𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒: Every strategic decision should be linked back to the company’s core mission or purpose. This helps employees see the bigger picture and understand the rationale behind each choice. 3. 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝐸𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑒𝑠: Involve your team in the strategy development process. This can range from soliciting feedback to having employees participate in strategy workshops. When employees are part of the conversation, they gain a deeper understanding and ownership of the strategy. By following these steps, you can transform your strategy communication and ensure everyone is on the same page, fully understanding and supporting the strategic vision. Clear and contextual communication fosters alignment, boosts morale, and drives organizational success. https://lnkd.in/g-n5TyiW

I can't agree more with this article! Clear communication is essential for effective strategy execution, but employees also need to understand and respect the organization's decisions. Employers should be involved in the creation of strategies, and leaders should explain alternatives and connect decisions to goals. #communication #strategy

What creates effective leadership? It all begins with effective communication. One approach I particularly favor is a top-down communication strategy, as highlighted in a recent entrepreneur article. This method involves consistent company-wide updates, leadership Q&A sessions, sharing relevant performance metrics, and providing policy and procedure updates. I find this communication style valuable as it encourages employees to share feedback, which is vital in today's business landscape. This feedback loop is among the most effective ways to foster better employee relations and facilitate continuous growth as a leader. What are some communication practices you use or witness in your organization? #Communication #Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment

Without clarity, even the best teams can struggle. When a company's strategy isn't clear, it's not just a top-down problem. It impacts every level. And every leader has a role in achieving clarity and alignment. According to Gallup, only ~1 in 5 US employees strongly agree that the leaders in their org have a clear direction for the org. A leader's lack of clarity on their company's strategy can significantly impact priorities, leading to inconsistent goals, causing confusion/frustration, loss of collaboration, ineffective decision making, resource inefficiency, employee disengagement, lack of accountability, loss of talent... and on. To avoid this, it's important to ask yourself a few questions: 1) How well can you articulate the company strategy? 2) Can employees at various levels describe it in their own words? How does it compare to yours? 3) How well do your team's objectives and performance metrics align with the strategic goals? Harvard Business Review has a helpful article on how to communicate your company's strategy effectively: https://lnkd.in/ggfkeTaT

Leaders, are you communicating your "company strategy" clearly and effectively - What does it call for ? For effective execution of strategy, employees need to know and understand the choices that their organization has made. Unfortunately, even clear communication of these choices is not enough because communication in the absence of context can lead to misunderstandings and lack of clarity. Since it is impossible for leaders to explain the full context in which they made their strategy choices, they have to find different ways to help their employees understand and appreciate their choices. Involving employees in the development of strategy, linking the choices made to the organization’s purpose, and communicating not only the choices made but the alternatives considered and rejected can be effective ways to bring employees on board quickly and make the strategy choices more memorable. #strategy #strategycommunication

When rolling out your company strategy this week or next week, remember to focus on COMPREHENSION over being COMPREHENSIVE. The goal of communicating your strategy should be radical clarity and alignment. A few tips: 1. Don't bury the lead. Pick a theme or phrase that you want every person in the company to know and lead with that. Create a bold phase that captures the essences of your strategy and is easy to recall. 2. Don't share everything (in the meeting). Attention spans are short. People get bored quickly (dang this post is too long already isn't it 🤣 ). They get bored even quicker when you share non-essential aspects of the strategy to them and expect them to filter what is the "most important. Clarify for employees what is most important. What is the most important thing we want our employees to know? Feel free to create a comprehensive document that is shared as an "additional resource". 3. Don't leave out CONTEXT. What is happening in the business that made this strategy a logical choice? How will executing on the strategy improve the business? Who are some of the key team members tasked with leading the strategy? What key initiatives are happening to help execute the strategy? 4. Make it interactive Some aspect of communicating your strategy needs to be 2-way communication where the employees are increasing their comprehension through talking. Break into small groups where each employee verbalizes the company strategy and is able to ask questions. 5. Don't leave out MOTIVATION and VISION A strategy that isn't headed anywhere isn't inspiring. Don't forget to remind people WHY executing is important. Give them a vision of what good things come when the strategy is brought to life. #Strategy #Leadership #HR #HumanResources #Management
