Recently, I was asked a few questions about cybersecurity in healthcare for an article. So many of the cybersecurity threats to healthcare are the same as any other industry. One thing that I constantly am trying to get across to all industry is working on security awareness, building a cybersecurity culture, and taking the time to peform a risk assesment. Many businesses are unaware of all the systems they have running, what they consider critical, and what they are doing to protect all of their assets. Too many of us put too much faith in the IT departments and think that they have everything under control. https://lnkd.in/g8kd-iHG

The Importance of Safety for Journalists and Its Implementation in the Newsroom In today's fast-paced and often unpredictable world, the safety of journalists is more crucial than ever. Journalists play a vital role in informing the public, holding power to account, and uncovering truths. However, this essential work often comes with significant risks, from physical dangers in conflict zones to digital threats in the cyber realm. Why Safety Matters: 1. Physical Safety: Journalists frequently find themselves in hazardous environments, whether covering natural disasters, protests, or war zones. Ensuring their physical safety is paramount to allow them to report without fear. 2. Digital Security:With the rise of cyber threats, protecting journalists' digital data and communications is essential to safeguard their sources and the integrity of their work. 3. Mental Health: The emotional toll of covering traumatic events can be immense. Providing mental health support is crucial for the well-being of journalists. Implementing Safety Measures in the Newsroom: 1. Training and Preparedness: Regular safety training sessions can equip journalists with the skills they need to navigate dangerous situations. This includes first aid, conflict de-escalation, and digital security practices. 2. Support Systems: Establishing robust support systems, including access to mental health resources and peer support networks, can help journalists cope with the stresses of their job. 3. Protective Equipment: Providing necessary protective gear, such as helmets, vests, and secure communication tools, ensures that journalists are well-equipped to handle physical threats. 4. Clear Protocols: Developing and enforcing clear safety protocols for assignments, especially in high-risk areas, can minimize risks and ensure a coordinated response in emergencies. By prioritizing the safety of journalists, news organizations not only protect their staff but also uphold the integrity and quality of their reporting. A safe journalist is an empowered journalist, capable of delivering the stories that matter most. Let's continue to champion the cause of journalist safety and work towards creating a safer, more supportive environment for those who bring us the news. #JournalistSafety #NewsroomSafety #PressFreedom #JournalismMatters

If you're looking for an interesting watch and love conspiracy theory, I think this mini-series fits the bill. One interesting nugget from the first episode which focused on the Inslaw case in the 70's; I thought it was kind of funny how hacking/software manipulation has been around since the infancy of computing. Back then it was a little more simplistic as there was just less technology(less time with the technology too) compared to now. Sneaky developers created the "Trojan Horse" or "trap door" within software to try and gain valuable or even classified information. Fast forward to now; we've had nearly 50 more years of exponential learning and development in technology computing/software the end goal of the schemes is relatively similar. The one thing that has changed is the scalability in the way nefarious actors are infiltrating a network. Anywhere from an individual to an Enterprise Global business can be targeted. Just a random musing, but have any of you watched this documentary, what were your thoughts? How do you feel about your cybersecurity either on a personal or business level? Looking for a strategic partner or maybe just test your network? 🔒 Data Protection Day - A Vital Reminder 🔒 📅 Today marks an important occasion for privacy professionals, businesses, and internet users alike - Data Protection Day! Held annually on January 28th, this day serves as a keystone event for raising awareness about the importance of protecting personal data. 💡 Data Protection Day commemorates the signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. It's a day to reflect on the rights we have been granted to safeguard our personal information and the ongoing efforts to protect these rights in the digital age. 🌐 As our lives become increasingly online, the significance of data privacy and security cannot be overstated. From personal details shared on social media to sensitive information provided to online services, the digital trails we leave behind are vast and vulnerable. 🛡️ Here are some thoughts on how we can all contribute to better data protection: 1. Awareness is Key - Educate yourself and others about data privacy rights and the tools available for data protection. 2. Advocate for Transparency - Encourage organizations to be clear about how they collect, use, and share personal data. 3. Implement Strong Policies - For businesses, establishing and enforcing robust data protection policies is non-negotiable. 4. Regular Audits - Conduct regular assessments of data practices to ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations. 5. Promote a Culture of Security - Make data protection a core value in your professional and personal life. 🤝 Let's take this opportunity to commit to the principles of data protection and ensure that our personal information, and that of others, is treated with the respect and security it deserves. 📱 💻 🔒 DIGITAL SECURITY: HANDBOOK FOR JOURNALIST ✨ Our Executive Director, Alexandra Tóthová, has dedicated the past two years to the field of digital security as part of the Central European Fellows group, led by the team at Internews. 📰💼 With the fellowship coming to a close, she is eager to share her insights with the journalism community, which is under significant pressure in the current political climate. 📝She has prepared a series of articles available in both Slovak and English (link below) to inspire discussions within newsrooms about staying safe. While journalists are the primary audience, these articles can also guide anyone towards better digital hygiene, whether you're in civil society, business, or the public sector. Before the cybersecurity experts critique, consider these guides as Digital Security for Beginners. Navigating this field can be challenging, but the aim is to make it more accessible. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eCKkiZP2
