Conduct interviews in a private setting to avoid unauthorized disclosure – no glass conference rooms, no open aired offices, no coffeeshops. 2. The saying "never tell anyone all your secrets" means that it is generally a good idea to keep some things private and not share them with others. It suggests that it is important to be selective about the information you share with others, especially if that information is sensitive or personal. There are a few reasons why this saying might be true: Privacy: Sharing personal or sensitive information with others can compromise your privacy and expose you to the risk of having that information used against you or misused in some way. Trust: If you share all of your secrets with someone, you may be putting a lot of trust in that person. If that person is not trustworthy or if the relationship sours, they may use the information you shared against you or spread it to others. Boundaries: Sharing too much personal information with others can blur the boundaries of a relationship and make it difficult to maintain a healthy balance of give and take. In general, it is a good idea to be mindful of the information you share with others and to keep some things private.

I just wanted to add a bit further on from my recent post about non-disclosure statements and confidentiality agreements. If you have signed one of these, this can unfortunately possibly feel awkward or uncomfortable for some people, if/when someone may come to you asking for information, that you have now agreed to not share any details. There is not meant to be any inference that something shady or wrong is going on here, you are just bound to confidentiality of what information you are now privy too. It might be a project, for example, that has not yet got off the ground, and there is no wish for any big announcements until it's in its final stages. What a lot of people don't realise, is that you are actually allowed to say to the person asking, 'I'm sorry, that is classified information, I've signed a non-disclosure statement and am not in a position to discuss this with you.' This should hopefully be enough for the person to understand, without you feeling like you've been placed in a position where you have to lie or stay silent, which can cause doubt or mistrust then for the other person. You have been as honest as you can be, at this point in time. If they have come to you, they most likely are already aware that you have some sort of affiliation or involvement, so there is no reason to hide this. You could even continue with, ' I'm sorry that I cannot assist you, but feel free to use the appropriate channels and go diect to the source, if there is a possibility for you to also be involved, seeing as you are showing interest, I can pass on your details if you want?.' It is not necessarily a secret that you've agreed to confidentiality, it's just the limitations of now sharing details that sit as part of the agreement. No one is intentionally putting you in the position of having to lie or hide anything, it's protecting plans, or future ideas from an intellectual property perspective until they are finalised. If you do however, once signed such an agreement, find yourself caught up in something that is not 'above-board', is illegal or is hurtful or harmful towards anything, or anyone, then that is of course a completely different story. It would be in your best intentions to immediately seek advice on your rights, and how you can protect yourself. A starting point here would be an official authority, like a lawyer, the Small Business Ombudsman in your state, or even the police.
