Are You Drowning in Distractions? How to Reclaim Your Focus at Work I loved the opportunity to discuss how to reclaim our focus at work with Courtney Schulnick and Annie Calvert, MBA, CPC on the Conscious Corner Podcast with Annie + Courtney. Ever wondered how setting communication boundaries can improve your work-life balance? Focusing on one task for a dedicated hour without interruptions can dramatically boost your productivity. We can combat distractions like phone calls and emails by setting aside uninterrupted time for critical projects. The result? Enhanced focus and better quality work without the constant pull of external demands. Imagine the impact of just one hour of dedicated focus each day! And did you know we can train others how to communicate with us? Teaching others how to treat you can significantly impact your communication boundaries. If you always respond immediately to messages, you set an expectation of instant availability. Conversely, taking your time to respond can help establish healthier boundaries. This isn't just about managing your time; it’s about managing others' expectations, too. This strategy can lead to more control over your work environment and reduce stress. #CommunicationSkills #SettingBoundaries #WorkLifeBalance #EffectiveCommunication #TheFreeLawyer

I recently started listening to an amazing podcast from Steelcase - https://lnkd.in/dCUt2dEw I'd like to recommend it to you, it's full of useful insights about how to rethink the way we see work and the environment. The latest that I just listened to is about our attitude towards work, a discussion with professor Barry Schwartz. I'll summarize below what I took from the episode, and I encourage you to listen to it. It's really interesting to think about how the majority of people just think about the paycheck, if it's good - they don't think about much else, if it's not good, it's everything that they think about. It's also sad to think about that some people spend half of their working lives in a place they don't want to be, doing something they don't like to do. The research shows that people who are enthusiastic about their work, have autonomy, they feel that they are making a difference - they end up doing better work. The pandemic gave the workforce leverage about how and where they work and employers had to give up some of the control they had. This leverage led to an increase in enthusiasm, but that led to another set of problems related to work-life balance. Choice is good, but too much freedom of choice it can paralyze, so you need to have an optimal amount of freedom. Even after all this time since the start of the pandemic and embracing hybrid work, the work-life balance indicators keep dropping. The industry leaders are saying right now that the number one priority for them is the wellbeing of their employees. This needs to be done from the heart, as people feel when it's disingenuous, if the company actually cares about their wellbeing or they just want them to be healthy to show up for work. Creating spaces that influence behaviors and the way people feel - this needs to take flexibility in consideration. This need for flexibility is quite similar to the need for freedom of choice that was mentioned before - too much flexibility can lead to a lack of connection between the people and the space. The majority of people have a preference towards working in one particular spot, as going to the same place takes the effort of deciding out of the equation. If everything would be a decision, it would be impossible to go throughout your day. In short what people would need is : - optimal freedom of choice related to how and where they work from - autonomy on their work - to feel that they are making a difference and their work has meaning - a work environment focused on wellbeing with optimal flexibility taken into account #COS #Steelcase #WorkBetter #Wellbeing #Flexibility #HybridWork #Choice
