The 5 phases of project team development: Forming, Storming, Norming, Storming, & Mourning 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 The initial phase where the team meets and learns about the project. Pro: High enthusiasm (this is gonna be awesome!) Channel that enthusiasm into defining clear project goals. Con: Unclear roles (what am I even doing here!?). Clarify roles and responsibilities early on - and not just on paper. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 This is when the honeymoon ends, conflict arises, and personalities clash. Pro: Emergence of ideas (trust me, this is brilliant!). Con: Potential for conflict (you can't be serious...). Managing Pro: Encourage constructive debate to foster innovation - see "burstiness." Managing Con: Develop conflict resolution strategies to maintain progress. AKA, have veryone take a Crossfit class together. 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 Team members resolve differences, developing closer relationships and cohesiveness. Respect. Pro: Increased collaboration (I know what you can do). Con: Complacency risk (the new's worn off). Managing Pro: Leverage collaboration to enhance project efficiency. Managing Con: Set challenging goals (to which everyone agrees!) to keep the team engaged and growing. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 The team reaches optimal functioning, focusing on reaching the project goals. AKA: We are SPARTA!!! Pro: High productivity. Con: Overlooked maintenance. Managing Pro: Capitalize on productivity to innovate and improve processes. Removing formality is as important as establishing it. Managing Con: Schedule regular check-ins to ensure continuous improvement. No one uses all their budget. Blows my mind. 𝗔𝗱𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (AKA Mourning) Concluding the project, the team disbands or transitions to new projects. Pro: Sense of achievement (share that customer video!). Con: Team disbandment (we'll always have Paris...). Managing Pro: Celebrate successes and capture learnings for future projects. Most people don't really know how to do this. Managing Con: I don't have any advice on this one. There's a piece of me that will always want to go back. Each of these phases are so full of memories. Write them down. Not many people shed more tears of both joy and grief at work than Project Managers. Hang in there, guys - it's Friday. #MedTech #ProjectManagement #Leadership

Empowering mid-career professionals to reach their potential | Executive Coach | Career Development Coach | Certified Strengths Coach | Founder @ Rekindle U
Lavanya, a project manager at a rapidly growing tech firm, found herself in a challenging situation. Her team's performance was lackluster, and despite her best efforts, deadlines slipped through their fingers like sand 🏖️. Morale was as low as their productivity. She knew a change was needed, but the path forward was unclear. That was until her mentor recommended Maanvi, a certified Strengths coach known for transforming workplace dynamics. Lavanya, skeptical but desperate, decided to give it a try. The coaching process involved personalized one-to-one conversations, which helped Lavanya to understand her strengths and how to leverage them effectively. During their first meeting, Maanvi quickly discerned that Lavanya's strengths lay in Restorative, Individualization, and Ideation—traits she had but never fully leveraged. She explained how these could be the key to revitalizing her team 🔑. With her Restorative strength, Lavanya could identify and resolve inefficiencies in their workflows. Individualization would allow her to understand and tap into each team member's unique skills and motivations, enhancing their engagement 🤝. With Ideation, Lavanya could foster a culture of innovation, pushing her team to think outside the box and bring fresh solutions 💡. Encouraged by Maanvi's insights, Lavanya took a new approach. She began scheduling regular one-on-one sessions with her team members, tailoring interactions that matched their strengths and reignited their passions 🔥. She also introduced weekly brainstorming sessions, where creative ideas were welcomed and celebrated 🎉 Over the next three months, a remarkable transformation took place. Projects were back on track and being completed with a new level of creativity and efficiency. The team's spirit rebounded as they saw their ideas implemented and making a difference. This was the power of strengths coaching in action. Lavanya's leadership style evolved from managing to inspiring, and her team started to see her as a boss and a role model 🌟. As Maanvi had predicted, leveraging her strengths resolved the immediate problems and laid a foundation for a legacy of innovation and resilience. This not only improved the team's performance in the short term but also set a precedent for a more productive and harmonious work environment in the long run. Lavanya looked out her office window again, this time with a smile, knowing she was building something lasting for the company and every team member she led. #LeadershipDevelopment #StrengthsCoaching #RoleModel #Cliftonstrengths #InnovationManagement #TeamBuilding #ProjectManagement #rekindleu P.S. Certified ScrumMaster® | Project Manager. I help organizations enhance project performance, delivering in-demand products to achieve superior results and business growth | Ex-Lecturer in Construction Tech & Management
🚀 **Unlocking Success: The Perils of Micromanagement in Project Management! 🛑** In the realm of project management, there's a fine line between guidance and micromanagement, and it's crucial to tread carefully. 🌐 🧐 The Danger Zone: Micromanagement stifles creativity, hampers team autonomy, and saps the motivation that fuels innovation. It's like trying to play a symphony while dictating every note; the result is a dissonant cacophony rather than a harmonious masterpiece. 🚫 Creativity Killer: When team members are consistently scrutinized at every step, the creative spark diminishes. Innovation flourishes in an environment where individuals are empowered to think outside the box, explore new solutions, and take ownership of their work. 🔄 Productivity Paradox: Ironically, micromanagement often leads to decreased productivity. Constant oversight drains energy, erodes morale, and hampers the natural flow of tasks. It's a bit like trying to micromanage a chess game – it disrupts the strategic moves that team members could otherwise make independently. 🌱 Cultivating Autonomy: Successful project management thrives on trust and empowerment. Cultivating a culture of autonomy allows team members to leverage their strengths, take ownership of their responsibilities, and contribute their best to the collective success of the project. 🤝 Building Trust: Trust is the cornerstone of any high-performing team. Instead of micromanaging every detail, invest time in building a foundation of trust. This trust empowers team members to excel and fosters a collaborative environment where ideas flow freely. 🚀 Embrace Empowerment: As project leaders, let's shift from the micromanagement mindset to one of empowerment. Provide the guidance, resources, and support needed, then watch your team flourish as they bring their unique skills and perspectives to the table. 💡 Challenge for Success: The next time you feel the urge to micromanage, pause and reflect. Challenge yourself to trust your team, empower individuals to shine, and witness the incredible outcomes that arise when creativity and autonomy are unleashed! #ProjectManagement #Leadership #Empowerment #TeamSuccess #InnovationJourney

🌟 **Handling a Project: What It Really Takes to Succeed** 🌟 Managing a project isn’t just about timelines and tasks; it's about **leading with vision, clarity, and purpose**. Every project has its challenges, but how you navigate them defines the outcome. Here are a few key tips that have helped me: 1️⃣ **Define Clear Goals**: Every team member should know the destination and the key milestones along the way. This creates alignment and keeps everyone focused on what truly matters. 2️⃣ **Communicate Early and Often**: Silence can lead to confusion. Keep stakeholders and your team in the loop at all stages. Regular check-ins not only prevent missteps but also build trust. 3️⃣ **Be Adaptable**: Change is inevitable. Whether it's a new client request or an unexpected challenge, the ability to adapt and pivot quickly ensures the project stays on course. 4️⃣ **Empower Your Team**: Trust your team’s abilities. Give them ownership, and let them shine. Micromanaging stifles creativity, while empowerment fuels innovation and accountability. 5️⃣ **Stay Solution-Oriented**: Problems will arise—that's a given. But instead of focusing on what went wrong, shift to finding solutions. A positive, proactive mindset makes all the difference in turning roadblocks into stepping stones. 💡 **Final Thought**: A successful project is more than just a completed task list—it's about growth, collaboration, and delivering value. When your team wins, YOU win.

10 Detrimental Tips for a "Successful" Project Manager🤪 Modern product companies assume teams/clusters can handle any issue end-to-end. But when tasks exceed these boundaries, a project approach returns, necessitating a project/delivery role without direct team influence or people management. So, what if you're assigned to such a role? 1️⃣ If appointed to a new project or team, ask your supervisor/customer not to introduce or promote you. Just blend in as another manager among countless tasks and projects. 2️⃣ Arrive and immediately dictate how everyone should work. Delving into current conditions isn’t your concern. 3️⃣ Always report vertically. No horizontal connections or updates, no sharing stories at stand-ups/project status meetings. Remember, you're the boss! 4️⃣ On escalations, avoid soft approaches (like regular meetings with leadership for team updates). Let everyone know they’re surrounded by incompetence, and only you excel. Your escalations should always be abrupt and unexpected. 5️⃣ Aim for contradictory goals! Don't discuss priorities with leadership. Insist your project is the most critical. If disagreed, escalate without discussion. Even if your team's work impacts your project by only 0.005%, while the company loses millions. 6️⃣ Regular company meetups to update everyone on the status? No, you might have to answer questions or accidentally promote your project. Best to avoid. 7️⃣ When the project ends, ask for a bonus. Don’t worry about others; they'll figure it out. Celebrate together? There's nothing to celebrate – it’s not your birthday, after all. P.S. A couple of lifelong career tips 8️⃣ Never admit your mistakes or apologize for them. If something goes wrong, find someone else to blame. 9️⃣ Don’t waste time training and developing your team. They should be ready to work immediately, without extra preparation. 🔟 Never listen to others' opinions, especially if they disagree with you. Your opinion is the only right one, and no one should challenge it.
