Struggling with team resistance to changing project priorities? You're not alone. Shifting gears can be tough, but as a leader, you have the tools to smooth the transition. Start by digging into the root of their concerns. Is it fear of the unknown, or perhaps a feeling of being undervalued? Once you understand the 'why', clear communication about the 'what' and 'how' becomes your powerful ally. Remember, support doesn't stop at words; offer training, adjust timelines, and show you're in this together. And don't forget to involve your team in the process—when they have a say, they're more likely to stay engaged. What strategies have worked for you when introducing new priorities to your team?

“We’ve encountered an unexpected issue.” If you’ve led projects, you’ve heard this countless times. It sparks frustration and worry. It sparks even more frustration when it happens late in the project. It feels paralyzing when the project timeline is already tight, and the client is waiting for results. The harsh truth: Roadblocks are inevitable, no matter how well you plan. But it feels less overwhelming when you realize: 🔸Addressing problems early creates room for creative solutions. 🔸A culture of transparency allows team members to surface issues before they escalate. 🔸Every problem can become an opportunity for innovation if you handle it correctly. One of the most challenging moments I faced as a project manager was when a stakeholder brought up a huge issues that almost ended our project. The team was panicking - but we took a breath, reassessed, and used that setback as a chance to innovate our approach. And it all worked out in the end! If you’re dealing with unexpected challenges, remember: Problems aren’t failures—they’re opportunities for growth. - Keep fostering a problem-solving mindset. - Keep encouraging transparent communication. - Keep empowering your team to adapt and overcome. The best leaders turn roadblocks into stepping stones.

Are you a leader or a follower? In any project, there are two types of people: those who focus on contributing to the project's success and those who prioritise being part of the "Success Story." Which category do you fall into? Finding a balance between multiple leaders and confused followers can be challenging. The key lies in understanding your role not just at an organisational level but also at a situational level within a project. Being a leader in one scenario and a follower in another under the same project is not uncommon. The confusion often arises from the struggle for acceptance of roles and the project's actual goals. This leads to delayed projects, lack of decision ownership, blame games, and a focus on personal success stories rather than the project's success. To ensure project success, it is crucial for each team member to detach from their organizational roles and embrace the situational hierarchy of leader and follower. By accepting these roles based on the situation's demands, competencies, and accountabilities, the team gains clarity on moving forward effectively. Remember, in any situation, you are either a leader or a follower. Committing to one role enhances team clarity, efficiency, and accountability, fostering a productive team environment. Trying to juggle both roles simultaneously can hinder progress and create confusion. Make a conscious choice, be it a leader or a follower, to drive successful project completion.

Here's some insightful ideas/tips around keeping momentum when working with teams on projects. Thanks Mariana García for sharing these from your own experience!
Tips on keeping momentum. Projects speed vary, from painfully slow to vertiginously fast. Team members energy also varies, from shy to extroverted, from careful to risk taker. How do you maintain a good team and project momentum? Start with the people around you and establish a good structure for the project. Here are a few tips. Ambivalent team? 1. Be clear on what is the culture of your team. If you think there is no culture, you are wrong, culture is formed wether you pay attention to it or not. So have a critical look, what's the culture of your team? 2. Have regular 1.1s with your team members where you discuss not only work content but also emotional wellbeing. Uncomfortable? Yes. Gains? You'll get to understand your team's personalities and find strategies to balance it and tackle lack of motivation. Stagnating project? 1. Actively request stakeholder's approval. Understand what each stakeholder needs from the project and moderate a negotiation setting a clear "approval” goal of whichever part of the project is stuck. Make it a team effort. Also, stakeholder's opinions are not needs, be clear on roles and responsibilities and lead the conversation into the root problems. 2. Nurture a taking risks culture. Enable conversations about which fears are stopping the project, be intuitive, people don't like to talk about their fears first hand. Once you have identified them, offer strategies on how to take risks together. People don't talk to you about their fears? Apply the 2nd point on the Team section to stakeholders. Overwhelmingly fast project? 1. Schedule reflecting spaces, regular retrospectives are great for that. 2. Establish project cooling off times, those are great to let the product changes settle and produce results so you can pin point which angle actually produced a desired change. Feeling like you are not being productive? Wrong, working on the wrong thing just for the sake of working is wasting your resources and watering down your direction. Is more productive to give the project a time. 3. Keep your team communication well oiled. Fast changes means a lot of people taking decisions constantly. Is your team aligned? Or are they pulling to different directions constantly? The latter is more common than you think. Find it out. This is such a small list, do you want to share any of your own tips? What type of project are you handling? Need help with any of the previous? Drop me a message. #Leadership #teamculture #momentum

I just read this article by the PMI Institute about how important it is to have resilience in today's fast-paced work environment. It also gave three strategies that project leaders can use to help their team develop resilience: 1. Show Empathy: Create a "brave space" where everyone feels comfortable to share their thoughts and feelings. 2. Look for Key Skills: Hire people who are good at working together and handling their emotions. 3. Collaborate Efficiently: Work together with different departments to streamline processes. If you want to learn more about building resilient teams, you can check out the full article. #ResilientTeams #LeadershipDevelopment #SoftSkills #ProjectManagement

🚨 Did you know 70% of projects globally fail? 🚨 A recent report from TeamStage reveals that complex, large-scale projects are particularly prone to failure due to unclear goals, lack of alignment with business objectives, passive sponsorship, and inadequate resources. If you’re dealing with a struggling project, here are some powerful strategies to help turn things around: 1️⃣ Re-establish the Project's Purpose and Goals 🧭 Ensure the team is aligned with the project's #vision and #goals, especially if there have been changes in organizational priorities. A clear purpose can reignite #motivation and #focus, steering the project back on course. 2️⃣ Involve the Team in Collaborative #ProblemSolving 🤝 Create a safe space for open dialogue. Encourage your team to share their concerns and suggest solutions without fear of retribution. This #collaborative approach builds #trust and fosters a sense of ownership and commitment. 3️⃣ Remove Obstacles and #Clarify #Roles 🛠️ As a leader, it’s crucial to identify and eliminate roadblocks. This could involve reallocating resources, adjusting timelines, or clarifying roles to prevent confusion and ensure everyone is working towards a common goal. 4️⃣ Understand What #Motivates Your Team 🎯 Different team members are motivated by various factors, such as recognition, career growth, or intellectual challenges. Tailor your approach to meet these diverse needs and keep everyone engaged and motivated. 5️⃣ Connect Regularly and #Celebrate Small Wins 🎉 Frequent check-ins and celebrating milestones can boost morale and provide a sense of progress. Acknowledge the team’s hard work and create a culture of recognition, driving further success. By focusing on these strategies, you can rejuvenate your team, realign on objectives, and turn a failing project into a successful one. Let’s create a culture of resilience and drive meaningful results together! #Projectmanagement #Leadership #Motivation #Collaboration #Resilience Source: https://lnkd.in/dg5ZteRd
