What is a sales funnel anyway? Simply put, a sales funnel is a method of bringing potential customers into your business. What does this mean? The aim is to bring lots of people who don't know about you - a ‘cold’ audience - into the top of the funnel. Some of these people will be the right people eg potential customers who are interested in your product or service, and some wont. How do you do this? With an audience in the ‘Top’ of the funnel you’ll usually concentrate on brand awareness, engagement and offers so the audience can get to know and trust your brand. As these people ‘move’ through the funnel, some will drop out as they aren't the right people for your business. The ones remaining are the ones you want to nurture on through (hopefully!) to the bottom. You’d do this by concentrating on sharing informative content, or perhaps problem solve a potential pain point your audience might have. At the bottom of the funnel, there are now fewer people, but by this point they will be ‘warm', meaning they know about your business and are more likely to buy from you. Now your audience has been warmed up, they are more likely to respond positively to an actual sale, so here is the place for sharing an irresistible offer your audience cant possibly refuse. Each stage of the funnel is important for targeting your audience in the right way, other factors you’d want to consider are the campaign objective (conversions, leads, engagement etc) and the price point of a product. If you are selling a ‘high ticket’ product, you’d expect your audience to spend longer in the funnel before they are primed to hit ‘buy now’. Where as if you are asking for email list sign ups for example, you might not need to put as much work in to warm people up.
