I remember the first time I was burnt by a toxic employee. It felt like a betrayal, a punch to the gut. We all know the feeling: the realisation hits you too late, and the damage is done. But here's the thing: wallowing won't fix it. 👉 Your team needs you. 👉 Your customers need you. 👉 Your family needs you. 👉 Now, more than ever. So, what do you do next? First, acknowledge the hurt, but don't let it define your next steps. → Your business deserves better. Then, consider this: 👉 Learn from the experience. 👉 Take a step back and analyse what signs you missed. 👉 Was it poor communication? 👉 A lack of clear expectations? Next time, you'll be more prepared. Focus on your core team. These are the people who have been with you through thick and thin. Show them appreciation. Reinforce the positive culture you want to build. Revisit your hiring process. As a tech recruiter, I can tell you that CVs aren't the be-all and end-all. Character, attitude, and fit with your company's values are just as crucial. Trust your gut and ask the tough questions during interviews. Engage with your network. Talk to other business owners. Share your experience and listen to theirs. You'll find you're not alone, and you might pick up some valuable advice. Remember, one toxic employee doesn't define your business. Your resilience does. You've built something amazing; this is just a bump in the road. So, take a leaf out of Taylor Swift's music book... 🎵 Shake it off And keep moving forward. What's one lesson you've learned from dealing with a toxic employee? — Enjoy this? ♻️ Repost it to your network and follow Helen Sanders for more. Want proven systems for your hiring? 12 years ago an employer asked a rhetorical question about skills-based hiring that stuck in my mind. It summed up a concern that those thinking about implementing skills-based hiring still face today. He asked: “Why would I use a recruitment process that takes me more time?” In this post I consider the uncertainties about skills-based hiring that could lead to such a question still being asked today, and what I think is needed to counter those concerns. The post is the first of a series of posts exploring skill-based hiring, with the aim of answering: ❔ Does skills-based hiring take more time than traditional recruitment practices? And whether it does or not, ❔ Is skills-based hiring worth the investment of time and changes required to make it work? #skills #skillsecosystem #skillsbasedhiring https://lnkd.in/dMiFa8fJ

We’ve been giving feedback to every candidate over Christmas and 10% aren’t happy with it… Betty, our amazing AI, has been helping people with personalised feedback on their job applications. And we’ve been collecting “feedback on the feedback” to help us improve. So far 90% of people have ranked the feedback as “good”. We’re pretty happy with that so far!👏 At HRGO Recruitment we’re on a mission to leave everyone better than we find them. And on our mission, a key quest for us is to eliminate ghosting of applicants in recruitment. Our data shows that only 4% of people who apply for a job get it. That means there are 96% of people out there who apply but don’t get the job. Those 96% of people rarely get feedback, which sucks. It destroys employer brands and demotivates people. We need to do more as an industry to help everyone on their journey; not just the ones with “pound signs over their heads”. Brands are powerful and we need to think about candidate experience in the same way we think about customer experience. Getting it wrong for either stakeholder will damage your brand! If you care about the experiences of the people who want to work for you, reach out to your HRGO Recruitment consultant today! 📱 Happy new year 🥳

Ever felt the sting of losing a candidate because your offer couldn't compete? You're not alone. I've been there too. With a client here in Bristol. Once, we had the ideal candidate lined up, but the salary they could offer was significantly less than elsewhere. Despite advising a hybrid role, we faced pushback. So we went in with our easiest advice, but it is tricky to implement a hiring strategy unless you have a proven process... Now, they're hiring juniors with no marketing experience but heaps of hunger to learn and motivation. This approach can be a game-changer if you know how to make it work. Here’s how you can turn this challenge into an opportunity: ⭐ Embrace Potential Over Experience: → Look beyond the CV. → Find candidates eager to learn and grow. ⭐ Create a Learning Culture: → Invest in training and development. → Provide mentorship opportunities. ⭐ Offer Flexibility in Other Ways: → If remote work isn’t an option, consider flexible hours. → Allow for personal growth alongside professional growth. ⭐ Build a Strong Company Culture: → Make employees feel valued and included. → Recognise and celebrate small wins. ⭐ Transparent Communication: → Be upfront about growth opportunities within the company. → Ensure clarity in roles and expectations. Remember, motivation and alignment with your company’s vision can often outweigh years of experience. Your next brilliant team member and employee might be someone who just needs a chance to prove themselves. Want to dive deeper into how you can implement these strategies? Let's have a chat. I think it’s time we start calling out companies that repeatedly repost the same job openings. This practice misleads applicants, wastes their time, and creates unnecessary frustration. By raising awareness, we can help others avoid investing energy in positions that may not even be actively hiring. It’s also a way to encourage companies to reflect on how these actions impact their employer brand and candidate trust. If we collectively stop applying to these reposted roles and provide constructive feedback, maybe companies will realize the need for more transparent hiring practices. Let’s work toward a better, more respectful recruitment process for everyone.
