Leading a remote team in 2020 was uncharted territory for me. No more in-person interactions, just... a new normal. But I discovered these 3 simple hacks that transformed our team into a powerhouse of purpose, strength, and compassion. 🟣 Purpose in Action: In meetings, we share stories that show our values in action and celebrate them big! Social intranets are great for spreading these moments. 🟣 Strength in Practice: Empower everyone. Help each person find their unique strengths (“Superpowers”) and use them fully. Change performance reviews to focus on these strengths. Share success stories – make everyone feel valued! Use social intranets to connect and celebrate achievements. 🟣 Cultivate Compassion: Connect deeply. Regularly chat with team members, no work agenda. Ask real questions like “How are you really doing?” and listen. You’ll be amazed by the bonds and support that come from these talks. The Results? A dream team! We achieved: ✅ Reassured and happier team members ✅ Clearer communication ✅ Increased productivity Inspired? A manager of a remote or hybrid team must foster an environment where team members feel connected, supported, and empowered despite physical distance. It's also crucial for managers to prioritize employee well-being, recognizing the blurred lines between work and personal life in remote or hybrid setups. Regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and opportunities for team bonding can help bridge the gap and create a cohesive and productive remote or hybrid team.🤝💪

"...we hire people who work well with high-level direction, and who are comfortable stepping on toes to get things done." Of all the great things said in this article, this one stuck out to me the most. I am a permission-getter, not a forgiveness-asker, so the idea of being encouraged to step on toes to build something is terrifying to me, because most places I've worked in have been low trust environments without good rupture-repair processes in place, leaving wounds untended and festering, which does not engender trust, but the opposite. Creating a culture of trust is hard, whether it's a business, a team or a family. It takes the time, commitment and reflection to build strong relationships with team members. Once that trust is in place, stepping on toes isn't an issue, both because I have permission to do it too, and because a culture of trust will repair the ruptures that are an inevitable part of working together to produce things. Building trust through autonomy and transparency is key to creating a powerful, positive and enjoyable working environment, and it takes dedication to managing relationships just as much as projects.
