Pitching to clients effectively is a game-changer in freelancing. It's not just about selling your skills, but about connecting with your clients' needs. Here's how I approach it. ▶️First, I do my research. Understanding the client's business, their challenges, and their goals helps me tailor my pitch to resonate with them. ▶️Next, I craft a compelling story around value. I focus on how my skills can solve their problems or help them achieve their objectives. ▶️I also send them uber specific work samples or testimonials, demonstrating that I can deliver the results they seek. ▶️Finally, I follow up whether I land the client or not! This simple act shows my commitment and keeps me on their radar. Remember, every pitch boosts your confidence and gets you one step closer to landing that dream project. So keep pitching, keep refining, and keep learning.

Some of my key learnings about freelancing from a conversation between Ishan Sharma and Shreya Pattar ➡️ Understand the 'why' of the client: The purpose behind content creation will give you a clear roadmap to frame your strategy and filter out those you are just toying around with the idea of content creation and branding ➡️ Don't niche down initially: Don't kill your curiosity by not experimenting enough. Work with clients, understand what you like to work on, with what kind of clients you like to work with. You will naturally incline towards such opportunities and when you are clear, double down on your natural inclination or niche. ➡️ Take enough time in the sales process: Clients be they businesses, coaches, consultants or people who just want to build a following will require time to understand the proposition and the costs. It's better to book a short meeting in their calendar where they ask their pertaining doubts and finalize with accepting or deciding to not move ahead. I changed my perspective for a better outcome in my freelancing career. Here's how you can do that too. Problem → Solve it. Clients → Provide results more than they expect. Knowledge → Polish every day, upskill regularly. Provide value results → Takes time to provide, so make sure to think hard. Business → Start it today, even if you do not have a degree. Pricing → Offer multiple options, in the form of packages. Testimonials → Your chance to win trust Free value → Good way to attract a premium audience. Conversions → Great way to collect feedback. Thanks to everyone who sent me questions about Freelancing for Good - it made sense to answer this one first: how did I get started? Every freelancer’s journey will be different. This is a short snippet about mine, and what made the transition easier. Next up, I’ll go into more detail about some of the things I’ve learnt, like how I find work and ‘put myself out there’. "You've grown beyond freelancing." A conversation I had with a friend put me thinking. 2020: I started freelancing with 2k/month. 2021: Switched to leadership role in branding 2022: Got back into freelancing 2024: Moved to strategies and consulting And now I earn 10x that money for 1 blog I write. From reaching out to people for work with samples to prospects not asking my work samples before signing me—Yes I've grown. My personal brand has grown. And I've been asking myself: "How better can I scale up now?" "What to do next?" And as I wrap up July, I have couple of new projects & opportunities my way. One of the first steps to starting a successful freelancing career is to define your niche. Determine what specific skills or services you excel in and focus on those. By specializing in a particular area, you can position yourself as an expert and attract clients who value your expertise.

9 truths about freelancing I wish I had known before: 1. You can’t lose if you don’t quit. 2. You grow by helping others grow. 3. Writing is the biggest form of leverage. 4. Investing in yourself can never go wrong. 5. It’s 100% okay to change your path mid-way. 6. You don’t have to always follow what others do. 7. It’s uncertain, but that’s what you signed up for. 8. Surround yourself with people smarter than you. 9. No one cares about your success as much as you. There’s no ‘secret sauce’ here. It’s a matter of taking risks and making room for learning.
