In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, we’re pleased to announce the second year of the SkipTheDishes Bursary for Indigenous Students in partnership with Indspire, a national charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada. Last year, the bursary was distributed to six Indigenous youth pursuing post-secondary education programs in Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan. We recently caught up with one of our bursary recipients, Phoenix H., who is in her second year of veterinary medicine at the University of Calgary, and shared that “the award has helped in more ways than you can imagine,” and allowed her to be the first person in her family to attend a post-secondary school. We’re proud to support another cohort of Indigenous youth pursuing post-secondary education, with a focus in 2024 on education in computer science and information-related studies. Research shows that Indigenous Peoples continue to be underrepresented in the technology sector, and through this bursary program, we hope to open more doors and create greater opportunities to ensure the tech industry is as diverse as the communities we serve. 4 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗪𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗼 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲 Is education policy something I should consider for my children? Or should I rely on savings and my income to fund their education? When choosing to purchase a cover or not, it’s good to note these 4 things; 1️⃣ 𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗡𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 When most of us were studying, our parents had tracts of land, and livestock, among other properties. During our university days, it was common for parents to divide and sell part of their land to settle school fees. Unfortunately, things have changed today and most of us don’t have those large tracts of land. As a result, we do not have a backup plan for our children’s school fees if we lose our income. 2️⃣ 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 Are you familiar with the fundraisers that villagers organized when a child received a university admission letter? If yes, then you know villagers were excited about such events and were willing to support one of their own to acquire an education. Unfortunately, things don’t work the same nowadays. Very few people turn up and the amount raised is usually less than the tuition fee. 3️⃣ 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 The tuition fee amounts keep increasing by the day. A simple comparison of the university education between today and 2018 will shock you. If you research the same you will learn that the tuition fee has increased by 2 or more times the initial amount. Without prior planning, it’s easy for your child to lose a learning opportunity. Furthermore, education keeps getting more and more expensive! 4️⃣ 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 Death is not a respecter of persons it comes anytime and leaves some without parents. As a parent with children relying on you to educate them, you should build a plan that will ensure your children complete their education whether you’re present or not. Unlike the generation before us, we have all odds against us! As a result, we must embrace robust measures to see our children through their education goals. Are you ready to secure your children’s education?

A truly thoughtful, and generous partner is going to help make a Salem State education possible for the next generation of educators and healthcare professionals. So proud of the work our SSU advancement team did to secure this $10 million gift and help to Meet the Moment for so many future Vikings! Starting this fall and in perpetuity many students will receive scholarship aid to support their academic journey. What an honor to work with such an incredibly generous and selfless philanthropist! --- In a tremendous act of support for SSU students with unmet financial needs, an anonymous donor recently gifted $10 million in honor of his parents, who both graduated from the university in the 1950s. SSU now has received the three largest gifts in state university history. This transformative gift will support students with unmet financial needs enrolled in the Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services (MMCHHS) and the McKeown School of Education (MSOE). Graduates of these programs have a long history of serving the Commonwealth in its healthcare, education, law enforcement, and public service fields. They also frequently remain on the North Shore to begin their careers. Because of his generosity, the University established the Clipper Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to students who are just over the threshold of Pell Grant eligibility and are often precluded from federal and state aid programs. The scholarships will help eligible students fund the cost of attendance, which includes tuition, room and board, books, meal plans, and more. And while this gift benefits students enrolled in the MMCHHS and MSOE, it enables us to potentially free up resources for students in other academic areas campus wide. #equity #MeetTheMoment #VikingPride #HigherEducation Learn more about how this incredible gift will support college students in Massachusetts: https://ow.ly/kW1650Tebth

The impact of #education #funders on the lives of individuals and communities truly could be far more powerful, as this piece by Mike Nylund of Scholarship America in Inside Philanthropy shows. And #college #success programs, like some TPI client Scholars programs, lead to graduation rates higher than even the national average. Strategic education funding does create real, foundational change! #firstgenerationcollegestudent #equityineducation #educationimpact

Question: "Why do some universities offer elective courses called SOPHIA where completing them doesn't affect a student's GPA, only their overall credits? This seems unfair and like a money-making scheme for schools that are supposed to be nonprofit. The U.S. Department of Education may need to investigate #colleges like Capella University et al who engage in such practices. #collegesanduniversities should rethink their policies on grading for courses that require the same effort and learning, regardless of whether they're paid or free." https://lnkd.in/eJDMaYUq
Grade Point Average (GPA) Should Include Paid or Free Courses with the Same Amount of Effort and Learning

Wondering about the “Cost of College: The Price Tag of Higher Education and Its Effect on Enrollment”? It’s expensive, of course, but perhaps it can be less than advertised - and some see its value outweighing the cost. Check out Laura Aka’s report on a brand-new study from Lumina Foundation and Gallup – right here: https://bit.ly/3UkWQZX “During the 2021-22 academic year, the average cost of attendance ranged from $10,000 per year at public, two-year institutions to over $56,000 at private, four-year nonprofit colleges,” the study found. “Students’ net cost is typically much less than the advertised sticker price due to institutional grant aid and scholarships. However, 38% of undergraduates still need to take out loans to pay for their education.” #College #CostOfCollege #StudentLoans #HigherEducation

3moCourier Mizanar Rahman from Skip the Dishes stole my food on Saturday June 22, 2024. Order number 629010610 Customer service person in Chat Jas said they are unable to contact the Courier and that they can only offer a refund. Skip the dishes notification said the food was delivered. There was no food. Jas in the customer service chat asked me to check my surroundings for the food. Is he or she an idiot? Why should I be checking my surroundings for food when the instructions clearly stated to call me on arrival for delivery? Your service is very disrespectful and dishonest. I will be contacting the police for Mizanar Rahman. You are dishonest wicked and evil.
