Use of in vitro tools for assessing brain exposure is crucial for early de-risking of efficacy and toxicity issues for drugs in development. Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News (GEN)  has released its updated rankings of the top 10 biopharma clusters for 2024. We've compiled a historical overview of these rankings from 2016 to the present. Boston/Cambridge retains its position as the leading cluster, with the San Francisco Bay Area holding steady in second place. The BioHealth Capital Region remains at third. New York/New Jersey, San Diego, and Greater Philadelphia are ranked fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively. The top ten is rounded out by Los Angeles/Orange County, North Carolina, Chicagoland, and Seattle. While there are some minor changes in rankings, the overall landscape of top biopharma clusters remains consistent.

Watch as Mike Ward and Matthew Arnold discuss trends to watch in life sciences and healthcare, including the increase of high-valued partnering deals centered on preclinical assets in the pharma industry. They note, "The biotech sector has returned to pre-pandemic fundraising and deal-making norms. During the pandemic, biotech and biopharma were the month's flavor because of the efforts they've been making to take on that challenge. In contrast, we're now in a sort of hangover period. Still, there are some green shoots." Pharmas will now have to replenish their portfolios with innovative medicines and new technologies like ADCs and gene editing.
