This week, our COO, Kate Woolland, joined IQVIA UK and Ireland , together with a panel of experts, to discuss how to overcome the challenges hindering the adoption of accelerated innovation in the healthcare and life science industry, for the latest installment of "Making Market Access Real". The main topic of discussion revolved around the unsustainability of healthcare in its current form. Challenges in funding, productivity, workforce shortages, and the backlog in the post-pandemic era, along with health equity and access issues, create significant obstacles. Innovation plays a fundamental part in tackling these challenges. However, it is not the innovation itself but the adoption of innovation that presents the biggest challenge for the industry. 💡 At Closed Loop Medicine, our aim is to provide a pathway for all individuals to access high-quality personalized treatment, addressing the current shortfall in scalable personalized healthcare solutions, by enabling real-time, real-world drug dose optimization of both new and established medicines – offering precision care for all while supporting healthcare providers. If you haven’t already, watch the video to join the conversation on what’s happening to drive innovation forward. 👇 #Healthcare #Innovation #NHS #PrecisionCare
In our latest instalment of 'Making Market Access Real', we were thrilled to be joined by Richard Stubbs, Chair of the national Health Innovation Network, Kate Woolland, Chief Operating Officer, Closed Loop Medicine, Jim McArdle, Strategy Lead, Patient Services, IQVIA and Paul Henderson, Director of Consulting, UK&I Healthcare & Government, IQVIA, sharing their perspectives on the adoption of accelerating innovation which is one of the biggest challenges of the healthcare and life sciences industry.

🧬 This week's Austin Bio + Health Roundup highlights significant data trends, my stance on covering funding announcements, new partnerships, and action across the Texas Bio Triangle. 🧬 💰 Funding: The Way I Plan to Cover Funding Announcements You may have seen reports of a local Bio & Health startup’s funding round through an SEC report filing. While some outlets have covered this, my position is not to. I prefer to support our builders directly rather than trolling the filings for scoops. There is plenty of real investigative journalism that our city would be well served by if that is where they focused. Remember I am not a journalist and I am not the media. When the company is ready to announce their round officially, I’ll gladly shout it to the rooftops. 📊 Data Peter Walker at Carta reports that in 2017, Biopharma and Medical Devices captured just under 10% of all VC dollars. By 2023, this figure rose to 17.7%, and in Q1 2024, it reached 24%. The overarching tailwinds favor our sector and region with trends towards Bio & Health and the physical & digital intersection. Energy and hardware, two other sector blossoming in Central Texas, also saw similar share gains. 🤝 M&A and Partnerships Sensi.AI, a 24/7 senior care intelligence agent, is partnering with Caring Senior Service to deploy SensiAI’s platform in Caring’s 50 locations across the US. This partnership allows seniors a better opportunity to age gracefully in their homes. 🚩 Texas Bio Triangle BioMedSA is hosting an event called Women in Bioscience, Thursday June 20th. It’s designed to connect and empower women in the bioscience industry across Central Texas, and features Randi Brosterman Hutchens discussing "Building your Personal Board." Find the link to the event in the comments. Houston-based Lokum, a staffing solution to connect clinicians and clinical staff to health care facilities, has raised a $700K pre-seed round. Congrats Ayoade (Joy) Ademuyewo on the raise. What’s Next? #AustinNext #LifeSciences #Healthcare #Biotechnology

I really enjoyed talking about digital health and partnerships on Thursday with Julia Henkels John Drakenberg Kimberley Ferguson Marissa "Missy" Pittard at the DTx Conference Series in Los Angeles, CA. Some key takeaways for the community from the great discussion are: 1. Identify partners that share the same mission and vision as your company, your team and your product/service. At OMRON Healthcare, Inc. that's going for zero, eliminating heart attacks and strokes. 2. Find champions and internal stakeholders that will advocate for a joint future vision and state. This will help build momentum and keep momentum during the long process from ideation -> development -> market launch. 3. Clearly define the joint partnership ROI and business model by understanding your partners key needs (e.g., reducing CAC) vs. just presenting YOUR solution, roadmap, needs, etc. 4. Look for partnerships where you can combine strengths to make measurable strides towards your company mission. Our partnership with AliveCor is a good example of how we applied these criteria, and its made a difference. What did we miss that's been learned in the past few years of digital health partnerships and therapeutics that can be applied moving forward?

🚀 Strategy Workshop Reflections: Navigating Challenges & Strengthening Our Team 🚀 This Thursday and Friday, my team and I came together for a highly productive strategy workshop, focusing on two key areas: 1️⃣ External and Internal Success Factors: We brainstormed on what is essential to optimize the probability of patients accessing our groundbreaking new biotech therapies. With less than 50% of new therapies available to Danish patients, this is no small task. At the same time, we’re seeing more personalized medicine and smaller, more targeted indications emerging. Thankfully, we are in a landscape where all stakeholders are solution-oriented and, most importantly, focused on improving patient outcomes. 2️⃣ Building Our Team: When I started at J&J three years ago, my ambition was to build the best patient access and policy team in Denmark—one that covers market access, regional access, health economics, pricing and tender, patient advocacy, and public policy. After 18 years in the life sciences industry, I can proudly say this is the most competent, passionate, and supportive team I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Our "can-do" attitude, combined with positive energy, genuine empathy and willingness to support each other, makes us stronger. Grateful to work with such an exceptional group of individuals! Together, we’re ready to tackle the challenges ahead and ensure more patients can access the therapies they need. Lone J. Spiegelhauer Kasper Magaard Koldby Asbjørn Lydert Hansen Kvist Katrine Jürs Madina Saidj Lisbeth Sønderskov Anders Zeidler And a huge shout out to Kennet Hammerby for faciltating our discussions! 👏 #LifeSciences #PatientAccess #strategy #Teamwork #Innovation #HealthcareTransformation #JNJ
