As some in my network may know, one of the things I have the absolute honour of doing in my spare time is to Mentor a bunch of 12-18 yr old students in a community based robotics team - FIRST Team 5985 Project Bucephalus. This team competes in a number of global programs and competitions organised by the FIRST organisation (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). The programs run from FIRST Lego League FLL (7-12), up to First Robotics Competition FRC (12-18). Last year, our team successfully qualified and competed in the World Championships in Houston with about 400 other teams from around the world. A huge part of what the team does is community and outreach programs - kids working with kids, kids teaching kids, sharing robotics to the community etc. This is the IMPACT side of the robotics - and it is an area that we do very well in on the international stage (Finalist and Top 6 last year at Worlds for the FIRST Impact Award.) Part of how the team communicates what it has done is via the IMPACT video - this is a short video fully developed, scripted, produced, edited and post-produced by the students. Anyway, 2024's Impact video for 5985 "We're Ready Now" has just gone public - hope you enjoy and can feel just a little more inspired about the abilities of this future generation - I have no doubt what these kids will do will be amazing! (I might be biased).
