Dear colleagues, please visit our recently published case report https://lnkd.in/e8ReC6pi in the Journal of Clinical Case Reports by Wiley. 🔻 This study suggests nocturnal seizure-like movements as an unusual, though challenging, presentation of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). 🔻A detailed history (daytime sleepiness, nonrestorative sleep, snoring, witnessed apnea, insomnia, family history of snoring or OSA, history of systemic hypertension or cardiovascular diseases, etc.) and physical examination (obesity, craniofacial and upper airway abnormalities, large neck circumference, and narrow airway) could help differentiate between OSA and nocturnal seizures. 🔻Subsequently, Video EEG and PSG can determine the diagnosis.

“Managing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA):” A study with Kathleen R. Billings, MD, and John Maddalozzo, MD. 🛌 Conventional therapies like CPAP and oral appliances remain key for OSA symptom relief and overall health impact reduction. 🌿 Integrative medicine harmonizes conventional and complementary approaches. As obesity rates climb, weight loss and lifestyle programs emerge as promising integrative strategies alongside standard OSA treatments. 🔍 Complementary approaches may contribute to lowering the apnea-hypopnea index. #SleepHealth #OSA https://lnkd.in/gQS8xjsF

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year, according to the World Health Organization. A major step to easing this burden on healthcare systems globally is diagnosing and treating patients for obstructive sleep apnea, a sleep disorder which substantially increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Learn about how the Nox T3s home sleep test can help: https://lnkd.in/gyBp3-kS #Cardiology #SleepApnea #SleepHealth #HeartHealth #HeartDiseaseAwareness Nox Health American Academy of Sleep Medicine

Here's our Chief Medical Officer giving clear insights on weight-loss drugs and CPAP therapy, highlighting the benefits of combining these treatments for those with obesity-related sleep apnea.
"ResMed has always done what’s best for patients, encouraging all patients to live healthier lives through sleep, diet and exercise. The recent SURMOUNT-OSA clinical trial results are good news for individuals with obesity and sleep apnea. GLP-1 medications will give physicians more options in how they treat patients; GLP-1s will likely be used concomitantly with positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. " Our Chief Medical Officer, Carlos Nunez, takes a closer look at what the latest GLP-1 data could mean for those with OSA. https://lnkd.in/gKgdMjeT

Where stigma dehumanizes people, medicine centers them. Pop culture and media attention present #chronic #conditions and the people who live with them as homogeneous. Depression, obesity, sleep apnea, HIV, Crohn's, and on and on... #stigma becomes one with the condition. Treatments are whispered about, hidden, pitied or shamed or avoided entirely. But medicine tells people that treatment of their condition - and, critically, their experience living with that condition - is worth close inspection. Clinical research is there, cheering loudly from behind the bench or within a protocol or in a new medical device: this condition is real! It is worth looking at head-on! It is worth time and investment and attention. It is worth improving. You are not alone. You are not this disease. It is exciting to watch medicine change. It is exciting to have multiple treatment options where once there was only stigma. Where once there was only shame. Responsible medicine almost never says "Here is your one solution." Instead, it says, "Let's see what will work for YOU." Where stigma dehumanizes people, medicine centers them.

Our findings from this large 12-year prospective study, published in Movement Disorders, involving over half a million participants suggest that vigorous physical exercise, limited sitting time, and high sleep quality are associated with a reduced risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). These results align with previous research and suggest that interventions such as exercise, reduced sedentary behavior, and healthy sleep habits, along with moderate coffee intake and vitamin D supplementation, could be effective in PD prevention. Further randomized clinical trials are needed to investigate the potential roles of various interventions in both primary and secondary PD prevention strategies. https://lnkd.in/gGVbvEmT
