Amongst numerous other parameters, #Flightradar24 data tracks an aircraft's altitude throughout its flight. We often refer to an aircraft's altitude as a 'flight level', but what exactly is a flight level, and how does it differ from measures used at lower levels? Our latest aviation explainer takes a look. https://lnkd.in/eUj_Zs79 #aviation #aviationdata

A350 uncommanded altitude deviations persist despite control unit update #Airbus is investigating further uncommanded altitude changes on A350 twinjets despite modifications implemented after a similar situation emerged on the type two years ago. #A350 crews had previously been given a revised altitude-selection procedure after investigations found that a failure of the altitude-selector dial – located on the flight control unit – could result in changes to the target altitude. This target could change by 100ft or 1,000ft, depending on the interval setting, and lead to unexpected deviation from the intended vertical trajectory. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency stated in 2021 that incidents of unwanted altitude changes by the auto-flight system had been traced to a manufacturing flaw on the altitude-selector knob’s encoder. Did you know that Class A airspace is the highest level of controlled airspace in the United States? It encompasses all #airspace above 18,000 feet MSL up to flight level 600 (60,000 feet MSL) across the United States, excluding certain designated areas such as special use airspace and airports with specific airspace requirements. In Class A airspace, aircraft must operate under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), meaning they rely solely on their instruments for navigation and control. Air traffic controllers manage Class A airspace meticulously, using sophisticated radar and communication systems to maintain safe separation between aircraft. #Pilots flying in this airspace must hold an instrument rating and follow strict altitude assignments and routing instructions. Stay tuned for more insights into the fascinating world of #aviation! ✈️ #StratusFinancial #aviationdaily #flightschool

RNAV Concept Area Navigation (RNAV) is a navigation technique that allows pilots to navigate directly between any two points on the globe. Using RNAV, any location on the map can be defined in terms of latitude and longitude and characterized as a waypoint. Onboard RNAV equipment can determine the present position of the aircraft. Using this positional information, the equipment can calculate the bearing and distance to or from any waypoint and permit navigation directly between any two waypoints. In this way. RNAV overcomes a fundamental limitation of conventional navaid point-to-point navigation techniques, which require navigating between electronic navigation transmitters on the ground. An aircraft equipped with conventional VOR receivers is positioned at a point , and the pilot wishes to navigate directly to some other point . Although there appear to be a few VOR stations in the vicinity of the aircraft, it is not clear whether reception. is possible from the aircraft's present position. If the VOR stations are within reception range, the pilot has two choices: (1) fly to intercept the closest airway, then track it to the intersection; or (2) fly to intercept an extension of the radial that defines (assuming reception is possible). Neither alternative provides the pilot with a means of flying directly to the intersection. #aerospace #space #avionics #technology #aviation #rollsroyce #terrain #navigation #airbus #collinsaerospace #boeing #gkn #safran #airlines #emirates #flying #airindia

Tip Tuesday: Class Echo Airspace #TipTuesday #iFlySCA #AviationGeek #ClassE #Airspace Class E airspace in the United States is a segment of controlled airspace defined by the FAA. It extends from the surface or a designated altitude to specific upper limits. Operating under IFR, it serves as a versatile airspace class connecting other classes, ensuring structured and safe airspace even in less populated areas. Pilots within Class E follow specific regulations and communication requirements for seamless air traffic control coordination. Understanding Class E airspace is essential for safe navigation and compliance with airspace regulations.
