the U.S. constitution protects We the people not, we the government. the U.S.A. is a constitutional republic not a democracy. A democracy only needs a simple majority vote to pass anything. in a republic, a super-majority vote is required to pass or confirm major things like. 1) a Supreme Court Justice 2) a constitutional amendment 3) a presidential victory 4) to override a veto.

Planner Policy & Land Use | Office of the Chief Physical Planner | Department of Lands & Physical Planning | Papua New Guinea.
A legitimate alternate government in the making should include in its policy agendas, a policy statement to limit the powers of the speaker of parliament, which should later include a clause on termination with the goal to achieve political stability as an important first step towards a performing democracy. Similar policy statements are deliberately omitted because parliamentarians could use a speaker to have advantage over parliamentary decisions once in power. Also, there should be policy emphasis on good governance captured across sectoral policies, binding to the principles of transparency and accountability instead of these expensive political restructure and process overhaul. Good governance is directly linked to the foundations of a performing democracy that any European democracy could relate to its success story. #GoodGovernance #PerformingDemocracy

THE UNASKED AND UNANSWERED QUESTION ABOUT ABSOLUTE IMMUNITY FOR A PRESIDENT The question not asked but perhaps more important than the question of absolute immunity is this: If a president has absolute immunity for any criminal act(s) he commits while president, how can he be impeached? Impeachment requires the commission/omission of act for which the president is to be held liable but if the president has absolute immunity there is no act committed/omitted for which the president can be held liable, thus no grounds for impeachment. The consequence of granting absolute immunity is that whatever constitutional guardrails might have existed pre absolute immunity immediately disappear post absolute immunity. Consider what would happen if a president were to halt all elections or run for a third term.

https://lnkd.in/gbGQgKcp Excellent idea! Let's hope the changes recommended get through... Lobbying is a curse ... then add to this, Truth in Advertising (especially during election time), Individual representative confidential conscience voting (not party-aligned voting), and disclosure of electoral and party funding (at a suitable time before the election date to identify 'influential' funders) to name a few improvements. Can't ask them to do too many things at once! The only place I'm keen to see more regulation and compliance is in our political system.
