Remembering a lively extempore debate at Vellore Institute of Technology! The topic: "Should movies that offend religious sentiments be promoted in India, considering their economic benefits?" It's a timeless question: where do we balance profit with societal well-being? Here are some thoughts: 🤔 Perspectives: Freedom of Expression vs. Respect: Movies are a form of artistic expression, but they should also respect diverse beliefs and cultures. Economic Impact vs. Social Harmony: While such movies may boost revenue, they can also ignite tensions and divide communities. Regulation vs. Censorship: Finding a balance between artistic freedom and responsible content regulation is crucial. Dialogue and Understanding: Encouraging open dialogue and understanding between filmmakers and communities can lead to more respectful portrayals. 🛠️ Corrective Measures: Self-Regulation: Filmmakers can adopt voluntary guidelines to ensure sensitivity towards religious sentiments. Community Engagement: Involve religious leaders and community representatives in pre-screening discussions to address concerns. Education and Awareness: Promote media literacy to help audiences critically analyze and respond to potentially sensitive content. Legal Framework: Strengthen laws to address hate speech and incitement to violence, while safeguarding artistic expression. Let's aim for a film industry that thrives economically while fostering social cohesion and respect for all beliefs. Give your perspectives and also other corrective measures, being in the Corporate domain and a responsible citizen of India! 🌟 #ArtVsSensitivity #DialogueForChange #SocialHarmony #MinistryofI&B

Indians often lack in civic sense? which raises the question: could this be due to its absence in our education system? Understanding what the civic sense is, why it's crucial, and its impact is key to fostering a conscientious society. Small actions matter, and neglecting them can lead to significant issues. From driving habits to littering, the list of civic sense violations is extensive. Ignoring these issues until faced with penalties is common. Recent incidents, like the Pune accident, highlight the ineffectiveness of consequences, even for the affluent. There seems to be a shared ignorance among both the government and citizens regarding the civic sense. It's time to prioritize civic responsibility and cultivate a more aware society. Respecting laws, considering others' feelings, maintaining etiquette, and keeping public spaces clean are essential components of the civic sense. Let's collectively embrace our duty to create a safer environment for future generations. #CivicSense #Responsibility #ConscientiousSociety

What does it take to change the life of a girl at risk? For the Protsahan India Foundation, it starts with empathy, art, and action. Founded in 2010 by Sonal Kapoor in a small room in a West Delhi slum, Protsahan has been transforming the lives of girls aged 8 to 18 who have faced unimaginable violence and abuse. But despite their past, these girls dream big—and Kapoor and her team are determined to help them reach for the stars. Protsahan's unique approach, HEART (Healing, Empowerment, Art, Recovery, and Technology), goes beyond traditional aid. The foundation uses creative art therapy—painting, filmmaking, photography—to help these girls express themselves and heal from trauma. The results? A room once filled with pain is now bursting with colorful murals, handcrafted décor, and smiles that tell a story of hope. The impact is staggering. Nearly 80,000 girls have been empowered through Protsahan’s programs, with many now skilled in vocational training, photography, and digital arts. They have trained girls to become wedding photographers, filmmakers, and entrepreneurs. And today, they’re telling their own stories and rewriting their futures. During the pandemic, Protsahan didn’t slow down despite the restrictions. They expanded relief efforts to 48 slum clusters, providing over 412,350 meals, digital devices for online learning, and psychological support to those in distress. As I reflect on Protsahan’s work, I’m inspired by the power of resilience and the life-changing impact of support. This isn’t just a foundation; it’s a movement which proves that when you give girls the right tools, they don’t just survive—they thrive. - Charu Jain #EmpowerHer #ProtsahanFoundation #GirlsAtRisk #BreakingTheCycle #ArtForChange #GirlsEducation

https://lnkd.in/g29esJzT draft.... Some of the extra curricular activities like college robotics competitions , like School related FIRST Robotics, most probably have some kind of scholarships for those participating. Maybe , so many Indian cultural organizations, without requiring students to join the cultural organizations, should try to support any scholarship needs .... like setting up fund with college administrative offices and students with real tough time paying for tuition , colleges should be able to use this fund and give the tuition at reduced cost. but both cultural organizations & colleges need to follow strict rules & regulations to avoid missing the fund. trying to show that person(s) /organization(s) is self reliant will help with being safe and secure also. some thoughts..... Over the past few weeks, I've been drawn into or surrounded by numerous conversations around violence—instances like corporal punishment in schools, and the horrific events in West Bengal and Thane. Yesterday at Charcha 2024 (by the The/Nudge Institute), I attended a panel discussion hosted by Sanjoy Roy with Nandita Das, Rajshri Deshpande, Amish Tripathi, and Zainab Patel. The discussion brought up violence, the means versus ends dilemma, and whether violence is portrayed to provoke thought or merely to titillate. This took me back to our last Acumen Fellowship immersive, where we reflected on the writings of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, exploring the causes, effects, and circumstances that lead to violence—and when, if ever, it might be justified. As we unpacked these heavy topics, I couldn’t help but wonder: How is our education system addressing violence? Are microaggressions within schools and classrooms recognized as acts of violence? Do we acknowledge teachers' or parents' anger as a form of violence? More importantly, do we guide our students to reflect on the nature, causes, and implications of the violence they experience or even participate in? There’s a glaring absence of such critical conversations in our schools. Students often leave without any understanding of violence and its far-reaching consequences. What does that lead to? And what might we need to change? #ViolenceInEducation #StudentAgency #Charcha2024 #AcumenFellowship #EducationReform #SocioEmotionalLearning Samyak Jain Ashwini Ramakrishnan Malavika Acharya Asha Shanabhaga Sandip Kumar S Mamta Bisht

Craziness for selfies! Leading to Death! Try the good old fashioned group photos or couple photos or solo pictures that were so famous in the 60s till the early 90s. Those used to be sepia prints and then black and white , and then color. If you have treasured those family albums go through it. Why is it there and why is it so treasured? Cherished memories. That's why it's there. Don't be so narcissistic to capture your own photo with that pout and raised eyebrows and that smile at nobody which means nothing. Harakiri needs guts. Selfie lovers fall short of that. What they have in abundance is loneliness, sadness in their lives, and Stupidity which often kills them because of carelessness. Go back to the roots. Educational institutions should encourage group photos and candid photo contests rather than creating selfie points during functions. As matured adults we all need to guide the youngsters especially the teens and those in early 20s for being responsible enough while seeking the 180 minutes of fame. Encourage bonding and not loneliness through selfies. https://lnkd.in/desc5r3W6
