Out now: 100 Beste Plakate 23 📚❤️🔥 X/100 — Expect Nothing — Appreciate Everything The motto of this year’s 100 Beste Plakate is enticing and delivers on its promise: Every year, the association 100 Beste Plakate e. V. honors the most outstanding and creative poster designs from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The accompanying yearbook has long established itself as the standard reference for creators in the graphic and design scene and is now being published for the first time by Slanted Publishers. The 2023 yearbook presents all 100 winning posters from the 100 Beste Plakate 23 competition in large-format images, along with information on their content aspects and the context in which they were created. It discusses current poster design and highlights trends. The jury’s introduction by Toan Vu-Huu, alongside a foreword by Fons Hickmann, an essay by Helene Roolf, presentation of the jury, and a contact register with credits of all designers, clients, and printers, completes the publication. The book’s theme, “X out of 100 / Expect Nothing—Appreciate Everything,” ensures equal presentation of all 100 works, avoiding any impression of ranking. Each poster / series is treated equally, marked as one of the 100 nominated by the jury. Publisher: Slanted Publishers, Editor: 100 Beste Plakate e. A charming chapbook we produced for a client who will be autographing them during her exhibit — serving as a tangible keepsake of her talent and creativity. We began by collaborating with our client to understand her vision for the chapbook and the artwork she wanted to showcase. After discussing her preferences for design, layout, and paper quality, we moved forward with the following process: 1. Content Selection: Our client provided us with a selection of her artwork to be featured. 2. Design, Layout & Color Correcting: Our in-house design team assembled a layout that complemented the artwork — providing arrangement and cropping recommendations. Since the sketches were from multiple sketchbooks, our in-house color technician adjusted the background colors of the varying images to maintain a neutral tone. 3. Printing: We selected high-quality paper stock and digitally printed it on our Indigo 100K, which produced crisp, vibrant reproductions of her artwork. 4. Binding: To give the chapbook a unique finish, we bound the pages using a side-sewn method. The result was a chapbook that beautifully showcased our client's artwork and reflected her artistic vision. There are many reasons you may want to print your own chapbook: 1. Artistic Expression: It allows artists to showcase their work in a tangible format, offering a curated selection of their writings or drawings. 2. Accessibility: Chapbooks are often more affordable than full-length books, making them accessible to a wider audience. This can help artists reach readers who might not be able to afford larger publications. 3. Experimentation: Chapbooks offer a platform for experimentation with form, style, and content. Artists can explore themes or ideas in a focused way, without the pressure of producing a full-length manuscript. 4. Building an Audience: Chapbooks can serve as a stepping stone for emerging artists to build a readership and gain recognition within their communities. 5. Personal Fulfillment: Printing a chapbook can be a fulfilling creative endeavor, providing a sense of accomplishment and pride in sharing one's work with others in a physical format. #zines #zinebook #chapbooks #chapbook #artbook #book #bookprinting #printing

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 🖼️ As we continue our 4-part series on how to prepare your manuscript for book design, we will discuss a crucial aspect of manuscript preparation: the submission of images and illustrations. With over 20 years of book design experience, I’ve seen how the quality and organization of your visuals are essential for bringing your manuscript to life. 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 Here are some key guidelines to make sure that your images and illustrations are high quality and will print properly: 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬: Always provide images as separate files in the highest resolution possible. This ensures that your visuals retain their quality in the final print. Most printers require a minimum of 300 pixels per inch. 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐭: Indicate clearly in your manuscript where each image or illustration should be placed. Use specific references or notes within the text to guide your designer. Do not include the actual images in your manuscript document. Indicate by file name which image should be inserted where. The Power of Print: How Fonts Impact Readability 👀 As a bookworm, I've become picky about what I read. Sure, the story matters, but font and paper quality also play a big role. I recently stopped reading a sci-fi novel because the font was hard on my eyes. Did you know❓ - Fonts can influence book sales. - Some fonts are easier to read than others. - Choose fonts that are easy on the eyes. - Consider paper type for a better reading experience. Want to make your book a hit? Let's talk about book layout. I'm eager to learn and grow in this field, and I'm open to collaborating on projects. #booklayout #bookmarketing #bookdesign #publishing

I talk about self-publishing | Helped 100+ authors generate $$$ through self-publishing services | Founder Pen2publishing | CEO Equire Technologies.
Do you know? "The Importance of Professional Formatting for Your Book and E-book." Here are seven pointers that describe: 1. A professionally formatted book enhances its overall appearance and gives it a polished, well-organized look. 2. A coherent and aesthetically pleasant reading experience is facilitated by incorporating consistent fonts, margins, spacing, and other elements. 3. Print formatting considers page size, font embed, image DPI, margins, and gutter space to ensure the book prints properly. 4. Page layout is essential for avoiding awkward breaks—a single paragraph separated from the rest. 5. Proper formatting is crucial for print-on-demand services to produce high-quality, professional-looking physical copies of the book. 6. Following industry-standard formatting guidelines is crucial to distributing your print book through traditional channels like bookstores. 7. Readers enjoy books that are easy to read, have legible fonts, sensible space, and a layout that improves understanding. I am currently working on four different book design projects! Love these processes - every step of a book project is a step towards the final product that I will one day hold in my hands. And every step, and person involved in the process, is as important. First the idea, the draft, the initial meeting with the client to set up a time line. Then the choosing of paper - I often order a dummy from Arctic Paper because it's so important to get the right feeling for the size of book and paper quality. And then contacting the printer for a quote. During the last years I have almost always ended up printing at Livonia Print and my contact Zane Bluma Johansson has become a person in who I have a great trust (she is extremely up to date and have always got some cool ideas). After that the meetings with photographer or illustrator, editor, writer or who ever will be involved in the process onwards. And so it continues... until, finally, we send the final files for print and receive a product, a book. #bookdesign #graphicdesign #bookdesignprocess #newprojects #aiillustration

I help small businesses shine with unique visual identities that stand out | Brand Identity Designer | Logo Designer
As a self-taught designer, these 5 books shaped my design journey. 1. Thinking with Type: by Ellen Lupton 2. How to: by Michael Bierut 3. Why Fonts Matter: by Sarah Hyndman 4. Grid System in Graphic Design: by Josef Müller-Brockmann 5. Principles of Logo Design: by George Bokhua They've not only taught me valuable lessons but have also inspired and encouraged me, helping me grow from a novice to a confident designer. These books taught me that every design decision should be related to what you are creating and why. For me, these books have been a game changer. 💫💎 _________________ Hey there, it's Vaishnavi! Fonts have their own language. They all have something to say outside of words. They can be random and non-committal, exotic or graphic - raster, hologram, retro, manuscript, etc. #designgraphic #diseñografico #designconcept #digitalcontent #digitalsignage #digitalsignagesolution #contentcreation #contentservices #uxdesigns
