Today marks a big day for fans and long-suffering disciples of the Call of Duty franchise. Since its launch in 2003, there have been 21 installments, with no less than four studios Infinity Ward (2003 - ), Treyarch (2005-), Sledgehammer Games (2011-) & Raven Software (2015 -) involved in the ongoing expansion of the franchise. The 21st iteration, #BlackOps6, takes players back to 1991 after the wall had come down, the USSR had crumbled, and Boris Yeltsin had taken the reigns of a declining superpower. A new flag rests aloft the Kremlin, and the CIA has been infiltrated by a clandestine force. Should we call Jason Bourne? At the start of 2024, the franchise was valued at over USD31 Billion, with over 450 million units sold. The move to deliver players with campaign, multiplayer, and zombie (round-based #important!!) modes caters to every play style and is a non-negotiable for AAA games today. Microsofts USD68 Billion acquisition of Activision means that this title will be available today via game pass for subscribers, allowing cross-platform access for those with the ultimate pass. Reviews are starting to come in and, as expected, there are teething problems as people who haven't pre-ordered or installed discover their broadband isn't as fast as they thought/hoped. Time will tell but at this minute those keen to have fun are happy, those who want to throw rocks are well-stacked. I look forward to delving in and realising once again that I am old, slow, and just need to get good. How good is gaming, I should do this for a living......oh wait #Activision #microsoft #xbox #gamingadvertising
