As I wrap up my first year at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and soon commence my summer internship, I find myself reflecting on an unforgettable journey. This year has been nothing short of overwhelming, testing me at every turn. From navigating the challenges of being an international student to facing a tough market, the journey has been hard, to say the least. Yet, through this, I discovered resilience, became a slightly better friend to myself, and began overcoming several obstacles. My biggest learnings acted as a guidepost and I truly hope to remain true to them moving forward as well - 🌟 The Power of #Breaks and #Rest: Initially, I believed relentless pursuit was the only way to justify this massive emotional and financial investment. I couldn't have been more wrong. Neglecting rest led to a relentless cycle of #burnout. Embrace rest; it’s essential for sustained success. 🔍 Focus on Your Journey: In an environment like this, it's easy to #compare your progress with others. But doing so is self-sabotage. Your peers' achievements don't diminish your own. Celebrate their successes and trust that your time will come. 🌱 The Power of Surrender: There’s only so much within your control. After giving your best, let go of the outcome. This is easier said than done, but endless worry only robs you of life's exciting experiences. While this year has been both challenging and exhilarating, I eagerly anticipate my summer experience and the adventures the next year will bring! #MBA #LearningJourney #FuquaSchoolOfBusiness #PersonalGrowth #Resilience

The MBA world spins like a well-oiled gear. Just as the scent of graduation roses fills the air, a bittersweet undercurrent flows. Senior classmates, once bleary-eyed classmates fueled by coffee and case studies, turn into polished professionals ready to conquer the corporate jungle. Yet, the halls don't stay empty for long. A fresh wave of eager juniors washes in, their eyes bright with ambition, ready to dive headfirst into their summer internships – the coveted SIP. The torch is passed, the cycle continues. Seniors become alumni, sharing their war stories of late nights and triumphs. Juniors, armed with newfound summer experiences, step up to become the seasoned veterans themselves. The MBA circle spins, year after year, a constant churn of knowledge, growth, and goodbyes laced with the promise of new beginnings.

The month between the last day of classes at Fuqua and the first day of my internship has brought me plenty of time to relax, which mainly consisted of my favorite way to unwind: reading. 🤓 I read on airplanes, at the beach, on the couch, and while fighting off pollen on my back porch. A real highlight was finishing The Algebra of Wealth by Scott Galloway (a favorite of mine since taking a Section course in 2022.) There’s a lot to his book, but something that stood out for me is one of Scott’s hotter topics:  finding work in the thing you’re good at -- not necessarily *just* what you’re passionate about. He wrote that personality tests like the Myers-Briggs framework can provide helpful direction to folks early in their careers. In my first job after graduating from The University of Alabama, we completed a company-wide personality test and discussed the findings as a team. I remember feeling struck by the startling accuracy of my results: I’m impatient, have a penchant for taking (fast!) action, and find the greatest fulfillment in high-impact work. In the months leading up to our first class at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, we were also tasked with completing a personality test: this time the CliftonStrengths Assessment (mentioned by Galloway in his book.) Looking back at these assessments, it's clear that self-awareness is key to finding that sweet spot of fulfillment. While pursuing your passions is important, it's just as crucial to understand what gets you fired up. The "algebra of wealth" is about cracking that code of merging your talents, motivations, and ambitions into authentic and meaningful work.
