On March 19, 2024, Destination Canada announced the launch of a new, three-year, International Convention Attraction Fund (ICAF) in a strategic move to bolster Canada’s global competitiveness in attracting major international conventions, conferences, and events to Canada. “We see 2024 as Canada’s year of competitiveness for business events,” said Destination Canada CEO, Marsha Walden. “This is what it takes to compete for the world’s major business events, and win. I believe that introducing innovative business models and technologies to fill market gaps is crucial. After that, it is essential to make local adjustments based on the local market demands and culture, and then use market education and promotion to enhance consumer awareness and acceptance of new products, models, or services. **Characteristics of the Spanish Market:** 1. **Rich Cultural Heritage and Tourism Resources**: Spain has abundant cultural heritage and tourism resources, which can be leveraged to develop cultural creative industries and cultural experience products. 2. **Geographical and Cultural Leverage**: Spain's geographical location and cultural ties can serve as a gateway to the European and Latin American markets. 3. **Low-Cost Business Models**: Providing low-cost business models can reduce the entry barriers, allowing individuals to start a business with investments of less than 5,000 euros. ---

Why it’s important to ensure continued support and funding for MeetDenmark: As discussions currently arise regarding potential cuts to funding for MeetDenmark, it's crucial to emphasize the pivotal role this organization plays in sustaining our business tourism industry. Business tourism isn't just about revenue; it's about driving growth. With a turnover of 35.6 billion DKK, it represents over 25% of Denmark's total tourism expenditure. In 2019, this sector contributed 16.9 billion DKK in taxes, crucial for our collective growth and welfare. International conferences and congresses are key drivers of this economic impact. We know that from the many events we craft at Bella Center Copenhagen and our hotels – across a wide array of professional fields. Business tourists spend more per day than leisure tourists, benefiting various businesses. Moreover, the competition for hosting these events is fierce. Any reduction in support for MeetDenmark would be detrimental. MeetDenmark's efforts are instrumental in attracting major international events, directly translating into revenue for Danish companies. On behalf of Bellagroup and the wider industry I urge policymakers to continue prioritizing business tourism. Supporting organizations like MeetDenmark is an investment in future prosperity.
