Aravind Srinivas once failed to switch to Computer Science. Now, he is the Co-founder & CEO of Perplexity, the AI startup leading the revolution in how humanity accesses information. With a dual degree in Electrical Engineering, Aravind initially faced disappointment when failing to switch to Computer Science by a narrow margin, a setback that fuelled him into online learning and programming. This became foundational for his later success in machine learning and programming. While studying, he focused on AI and published several papers, which set the foundation for his future work. He earned a PhD from UC Berkeley, specializing in reinforcement learning and generative models. He also worked as a research scientist at Google DeepMind and contributed to OpenAI's developments in language and diffusion models. In 2022, Aravind co-founded Perplexity. Today, the company has already gained rapid traction and achieved a valuation of over over $1 billion after securing investments from world-class investors like NEA Ventures, IVP and Bessemer Venture Partners. Joining the IEEE club at my university last semester was one of the coolest decisions I've made! 🚀 It's been a journey filled with tons of learning, geeking out on tech topics like Artificial Intelligence, and meeting some amazing minds. It's more than just a club; it's where I found a community of tech enthusiasts who are as curious and driven as I am. Can't believe how time flies! Looking forward to more awesome experiences and growth. Let's see where this tech adventure takes us next! #IEEE #engineering #AI

Excited to share that I’ve completed my 8-week summer research with Google DeepMind and the University of Birmingham’s School of Computer Science! This journey has been an incredible learning experience. Under the guidance of Professor Chris Baber, I delved into reinforcement learning, specifically focusing on multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL). I developed valuable skills in reading and analyzing research papers, and gaining presentation experience. A huge thank you to Google DeepMind, UoB School of Computer Science, and my mentor Professor Chris Baber for his support. Special thanks to Professors Sharu Theresa and HUIPING CHEN for organizing this program! #AI #Research #DeepMind #BSURE #GoogleDeepMind #Google #ArtificialIntelligence

The academic publication is pretty long, which means that often times it can take months or years before anyone knows specifically what you are working on. The worst part of this is that when the work is finally published, you may find our that the project you have been working on for so long might not be as impactful as you thought. In line with Lean Startup mentality, I want to start publishing partial results here and on my blog in order to get community feedback on things as they are developed. Hopefully this way I will be able to spend more time on interesting things and less time on uninteresting things. The one big exception to this will be things that we would like to patent internationally, since public disclosures void patents. Starting tomorrow I will post some intersting results from my work on what I am calling "information physics" which hopefully has potential applications for foundations of AI.

Another step forward in Gen AI, but people still have the advantage (at the moment) "Our systems solved one problem within minutes and took up to three days to solve the others." Will this make math more accessible? Is this another shift in education that needs to be looked at to help prepare students for the future? Or is this just computer science seeing what it can do and finding a reason later? Reserve next Thursday, June 20th, because it's time for the new edition of 👉ML/AI SPLIT Meetup👈 This time we have a real sensation for you ⭐️ We will have a lecture by the young talented ✨️Gabrijel Boduljak✨️ a future PhD student at University of Oxford 🙌 on the topic: Ideas behind generative models for images and video. 👏 Gabrijel completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics and Computer Science at the The University of Edinburgh and graduated with a master's degree in Advanced Computer Science from Oxford. Meta, JPMorgan, and InstaDeep are some of his former employers, while he continues his journey as a PhD student at Oxford where his work will focus on self-supervised learning and generative models for space (3D), which will also be the topic of his doctorate. 📋 Today's generative models for data such as images and videos are very expensive to train directly on the raw data, even for large organizations. Almost every advanced generative model for images or video contains some variant of variational autoencoders. 📲 Gabrijel will explain how variational autoencoders work, which are the ideas behind generative models for images and video. He will clarify the concepts necessary to understand the entire concept, starting from what an autoencoder is, how variational autoencoders learn, and why variational autoencoders reduce the cost of generating new data… 🤓 Gabrijel will show us how to implement variational autoencoders using PyTorch, how to learn to classify images unsupervised, create new ones, and modify existing ones with concrete examples.💯 At the end of the lecture, you will have the opportunity to ask specific questions in the discussion.💬 So, see you on Thursday, June 20th at PICS, the well-known place for networking and acquiring new knowledge. As always, entry is free, and all you need to bring with you is good will and a desire to socialize.🥰 📌 Sign up on the meetup.com platform. https://lnkd.in/djtmG3Ut 📥 #ML/AI #meetup #digitaldalmatia #knowledgeforeveryone

Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about! 🤩 Invidia CEO #Huang believes that to be valuable in the labor market, young generations need to be skilled in using AI tools. He recommends investing in developing "AI literacy" rather than just software programming. I couldn't agree more! What do you think? Let's discuss in the comments. #ai #computing #foundationmodels #software #softwareengineers #ailearning #aiskills #aisolutions Check out this video for more insights: https://lnkd.in/dz74skvg
Dark Mode Digest on Instagram: "Jensen Huang (Nvidia CEO) gives a hot take on what kids should study in school now. Historically, everyone wanted kids to study computer science and learn to program... but he believes the opposite. With the power of artificial intelligence, he believes, instead, kids should focus on learning specific domain knowledge such as biology, chemistry, or finance. Technolo
