During my internship at Hensek Integrated services Limited, I was attached to a site which was a fencing project located at Dakkada luxury estate.I met the project at the foundation level, the process involved was the excavation of the trenches and the column bases, formwork was made to receive the concrete in foundation and the concrete to column bases as well as a reinforcement to the columns. Formworks (Peri) to the columns were made also with dimensions measured as 700x700x2700mm. with grooves to receive the precast panels of 2700x500x100mm. working with Hensek integrated services ltd, as a student trainee , gave me the opportunity of getting a firsthand appreciation of the learning of the initiation process of construction, learning to work within a time frame, and also acquiring other skills . I was able to apply some of the theoretical knowledge gained during my study at the university to real work situations thereby bridging the gap between school work and actual practice. I also gained experience in other fields of science, engineering and project management. I learnt how to take levels using a leveling instrument and it prepared me for work scenarios I'm likely to meet. Personally, one of the most important knowledge I gained during the course of my internship was setting out of a building, and also how construction took place all the way to the lintel level. During the course of my work, I had to interact with Architects, Engineers and quantity surveyors .and I was able to grasp adequate knowledge and understanding regarding how to get quality buildings and quality control in construction. I actually learnt a lot of things and it was fun. I learnt how to erect a foundation which was dependent on the soil strength and floor plan. the last but not the least I learnt how difficult tasks are handled to ensure smooth progress of a project work in conjunction to the time frame for a given project. sha oo😀 Due to delay of materials, works was delayed on site and also due to funds not being supplied on time, projects could not be completed on time. #architecture #building #engineering #architecturetotheworld

Back during my internship at a steel detailing company in my final semester of engineering, I learned something that stuck with me: detailing costs typically accounted for around 5% of the fabrication cost. In the early stages of my career, I didn’t have access to fabrication costs, but once I did, I started estimating project costs using that detailing percentage as a baseline. It was a helpful reference point, especially since fabrication costs weren’t always shared with us. Fast forward to today, and when I look at the numbers, it’s clear that we’ve drifted far from that 5% figure. Whenever I come across masked values on scope sheets, I can’t help but wonder where the true balance lies. Have you ever asked for the fabrication cost when quoting a job to see where you really stand? It’s a critical question to reflect on, especially in today’s environment. In my time as an engineering student, I had the privilege of interning at Sea Blue Shipyard, where I gained valuable hands-on experience in shipbuilding and maritime engineering. During this internship, I actively participated in various activities related to ship repair, shipbuilding, industry knowledge, and quality control of mechanical systems. Working alongside industry experts on real-life challenges allowed me to apply theoretical engineering concepts in practical scenarios, enhancing my technical skills and providing invaluable insights into the maritime industry. This experience has not only expanded my understanding of mechanical engineering but has also fueled my enthusiasm for developing innovative solutions in shipbuilding.

Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. is pleased to acknowledge Engineer 1 Jonathan Synott who recently passed his Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam. Jon started at Loureiro as an intern between his junior and senior years as an undergrad student at University of Connecticut where he was completing his studies as a chemical engineering major. “I didn’t have a ton of experience at the time,” Jonathan recalls when he was seeking out an internship. “I applied at Loureiro and got an opportunity in the facilities engineering department which was a completely new experience for me. I had been taking classes, but this was the first real engineering work I got to do. I took a lot of things away from my internship, and by the end of it I received an offer to come back full-time.” Jonathan, who always had an interest in chemistry when he was growing up, enjoyed the environmental aspect of the projects he worked on during his internship, noting that finding solutions to environmental problems is a huge part of the work Loureiro undertakes. Since taking a full time position, Jonathan’s role encompasses a healthy mix of work in the office and work in the field. Depending on the day or week, he can be found calibrating pH probes, taking vapor readings, inspecting ventilation systems, and drafting up reports and proposals for clients. “I work on a lot of wastewater projects, and do a lot of stormwater sampling and soil vapor extraction. One thing I appreciate about my role is the variety of projects I get to work on. Alhamdolilah I had the opportunity to complete a one-week internship part at MEPCO's Transformer Reclamation Workshop (TRW) where I deepened my understanding of transformers, which is the heart of power system. During my time, I focused on distribution transformers, both pole-mounted and pad-mounted. *Key Learning Areas* 1- Construction and Working of Transformers: Gained hands-on experience with distribution transformers ranging from 25KVA to 400KVA. 2- Parameter Computation: Calculated core mean path length, area, flux density, magnetic field intensity, reluctance, and currents on both HT and LT sides. 3- Impact of Air Gap and Fringing: Understood the effects of increased effective area due to air gap and fringing. 4- Reclamation Process: Familiarized myself with the reclaim process and revised rules for transformer reclamation. 5- Connection Types: Learned about various connection types for both HT and LT sides i.e.(Delta & Star) 6- Oven Operation: Observed and understood the operation of the specialized ovens used for moisture absorbing. 7- Copper Conductor Selection: Gained knowledge on selecting appropriate copper conductors for different winding ratings. 8- Turn and Voltage Ratios: Studied the turn ratio, voltage ratio, and the use of taps on transformers. 9- Testing Experience: Conducted open circuit, short circuit, and series lamp tests under the supervision to ensure transformer functionality and safety. This phase of internship provided me with invaluable practical insights and experience, reinforcing my theoretical knowledge and enhancing my skills in transformer analysis, designing and maintenance.

I was also entrusted with a significant project, entitled as "𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆." I analyzed the existing layout, identified bottlenecks, and proposed two new layouts with optimized workflows. The new designs included a dedicated welding area, improved storage solutions, and minimized non-value-added time.
