Video feedback on the national team "The Swiss rotations were excellent," said Avram Grant, and the Image (top right) shows Aebischer again in a central position, with Ricardo Rodriguez, the left-sided centre-back, out on the wing. With their rotations, Switzerland gained superiority in the centre of the pitch, where the three midfielders in Italy's 4-3-3 formation were outnumbered, particularly when Breel Embolo dropped deep into midfield. Crucially, the Swiss players were always available to receive between the lines. It's Mercato Season! ⚽ Inspired by the excitement surrounding the transfer of The international Moroccan goalkeeper #Mohamedi_Munir to Renaissance sportive de Berkane, CLUB DU COEUR, I’ve decided to launch a series on the principles of a successful #MERCATO. This series is designed for all sports professionals (scouts, agents, sporting directors, coaches, football enthusiasts). The transfer window is more than just a period for player moves. Winning on the pitch is great. But in today's football, you must also win off the pitch. And the UEFA Champions League certainly helps in this. ✅ The case of FC Internazionale Milano in the UCL 24/25 👉 €61.2m already secured from UEFA distributions. ❗ €25m: It's what the upcoming match against AS Monaco alone could be worth ✅ Earnings until the AS Monaco game ▪️ Participation bonus: €18.62m ▪️ European market pool: €24.02m ▪️ Historical ranking bonus: €7.36m ▪️ Performance bonuses (with room to grow): €11.2m ✅ The Monaco Game: a €25m jackpot ▫️ €2.1m – Win bonus ▫️ €9.08m – Maintaining a top-4 spot (or surpassing Arsenal/Barça) ▫️ €13m – Direct qualification to the UCL Round of 16 ✅ Thoughts For clubs aiming for sustainable growth, European competitions aren’t just sporting achievements... They’re financial game-changers. Now the old dilemma: ❓ Should clubs prioritize European runs for financial stability, or is domestic success more important? Curious to hear your thoughts! ⬇️ #Footballbusiness #milano #sportbiz

Almost 4 years ago, I had to walk away from an incredibly meaningful work in Nigeria’s collegiate sports. One I had unwaveringly dedicated 4 years earlier to co-build and lead. For a country with lots of talented student-athletes, our young have been consistently deprived of credible opportunities to dream, play sports and thrive. We were solving a deep-rooted and daunting national problem. Runs full circle to share that I have founded Varsity Cup 🇳🇬, the annual national university football championships for Nigeria’s best men’s and women’s university teams and will be leading it with the active support of the powerful Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA). Like my unflinching faith in our youth, Varsity Cup 🇳🇬 reflects a strong pro student-athlete stance. Alongside other financial benefits, scholarships and professional career opportunities, we will be rewarding outstanding players in every game with the sum of N100,000 (totalling over $2000) and carefully position them for the right attention. I am very humbled by how fast and seamless the partnership process was. It was completed and signed in a couple of days! Grateful to my bosses and mentors at NUGA for their vision and faith in my abilities, especially the President, Engr. M.A. Bawa and Technical Chairman, Prof. M.G. Yakasai who kept in touch and remained persistent that there was still a lot of work to do in building the future of collegiate sports. With my current commitment in higher ed with Landa (Spring '23), it was important to answer 3 important questions before also taking on this impactful venture: 1. What level of competition delivers the most value to talented student-athletes and universities with great sports programs? 2. Can the competition be sustainable and viable from year 1? 3. How inclusive can this competition be in consistently empowering both male and female athletes? Our most exciting news is the 2025 season of Varsity Cup Women’s Football, right after we complete the Men’s Cup this year. This is a personal dream come true. And you as a fan can get to enjoy these Varsity fireworks of football games right on your phone live via YouTube and Facebook! Want to support our work, please refer to our deck here: https://lnkd.in/d-rsS-Fp More exciting updates soon. 🙏 #2024VarsityCup
It's official! We are partnering the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) from the 2024 season of the Varsity Cup Men's Football tournament. With this partnership, we will be able to engage all participating universities seamlessly while enjoying proven technical and logistics support. This is a major step in achieving our mission to build a viable platform for Nigeria’s brightest student-athletes to thrive. #VarsityCup #CollegiateFootball #NUGA #Football #SportsInnovation #StudentAthletes

❓ In terms of the academy: is Atalanta the FC Barcelona of Italy? When Atalanta B.C. played against Real Madrid C.F. in August... 👉 10 of the 23 called-up players were from the academy. 💥 Most of them came from the region around Bergamo. ▪ Growing players for the first team is one thing. ▪ It's another to produce talent that makes you win in Europe. Atalanta B.C. recently launched a second team in the Italian 3rd division. I am sure the trend will continue and many talents will come out of its academy. ❓ Who has the best football academy in your country? #footballbusiness #strategy #talent

I understand that World Rugby's supporters, players, coaches and pundits are happy and proud when their team wins. But is it not in the interest of these very people and the game itself, that poor and inconsistent officiating is recognised, improved and ultimately eradicated? Is winning a game of rugby really more important than ensuring that an equal contest and a fair result ensues by applying the officiating system and its processes the way it was designed and intended? How has this issue been so prominent in world rugby for the last decade without referees or the World Rugby Board being held accountable? Is it not obviously evident that it's ruining the sport?

While the main European Leagues enter the final stages to crown the current season's champions, this week we analyzed the intersection between the on and off-pitch performance in the Swiss Football League: 👎 Despite having the 2nd highest Market Value in the League and the overall greatest investment in player transfers, FC Basel 1893 failed to qualify to the Championship group, hence missing European Competitions next season and even risking relegation. 🧗♂️ The positive surprises are FC Winterthur (+7 places), Servette FC 1890 (+3) and FC St.Gallen 1879 (+3), punching above their weight so far. On the other hand, besides FC Basel 1893 (-7), FC Lausanne-Sport (-4) are also in an undesired situation after not reaching the Championship group. 💰 FC Basel 1893 invested the most on transfer fees for each expected point by the end of the league (€538k/ point) to assemble their current squad, which is 5.9x more than the league average. In comparison, FC Lugano is only 6 points behind the 1st place with €81k invested per point. 📶 With regards to market efficiency, most teams do a great job in getting a bang for their buck (average of 13%). The least efficient clubs would be FC Basel 1893 (65%), having spent more than half of their Market Value in transfer fees, and BSC Young Boys (30%), which have a somewhat balanced expenditure given their ambition and results. 🔄 As for the overall trading balance over last 3 seasons, Swiss clubs profited, on average, €3.2M per season as a whole. While all clubs have sound transfer strategies, not incurring in a great level of risk, BSC Young Boys (+ €49.9M) and FC Basel 1893 (+ €35.6M) managed to generate important surpluses to balance their accounts. 🅱 With regard to their Academy players, FC Zürich (11), FC Luzern (11), Servette FC 1890 FC (10) or Grasshopper Club Zürich (9) did a great effort to field their local talents, while FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy (1), Yverdon Sport FC (2) and FC Lausanne-Sport (2) did not exploit this angle as much. Despite the overall numbers of Academy players in the squads, some had more impact than others. In this case, 42.9% of BSC Young Boys' squad value was made up by Academy players, an absolute record for the League, followed by FC Luzern (31.4%) and FC Zürich (23.9%). As a final note, overall revenues in the Swiss League have been growing steadily (+5.6% YoY in 2022), with commercial (%31 in 2022) and gate (27% in 2022) income being the main sources in one of the wealthiest European countries, measured by its GDP per capita. The decision to increase the number of teams by 20% (10 to 12) has certainly contributed to an even greater growth this season. On the other hand, with slightly high wage levels (70%), leading to overall losses of -€17M in 2022, Swiss clubs are now looking to find the right balance of competitiveness and profitability. #swissleague #footballbusiness #footballconsulting

The polarizing Hugo Broos has ruffled a few feathers over the years with his comments about local coaches, the league, and western perceptions of South African football. However, off the back of a 3rd place finish at the recent Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) Cup of Nations and a resounding 5-0 victory over Congo, including a rocket from South Africa's €5 million man Teboho Mokoena, its clear Broos has steadily improved the national team's performance and global standing. The numbers too support the idea of Bafana Bafana's evolution under Broos. The team's offensive output has surged, averaging 1.8 goals per game ompared to 1.2 under Baxter and 1.4 under Ntseki. Defensively, clean sheet percentages have jumped from 30% to 42%. Additionally, while maintaining possession, Broos' team has also increased their direct attacking threat, the average distance gained per sequence has improved from 19.2 meters to 23.7 meters, showing more purposeful progression up the field. Broos has also implemented a structured playing style for South Africa, with 58% of sequences now starting in the opponent's half, up from 43%, showcasing a more aggressive, territory-controlling approach. With improved set-piece efficiency and tactical flexibility, Broos is not just changing the team's fortunes – But reshaping players. So, additionally to what I’ve mentioned above, the attached document showcases the progression the team has made over the years, my take on some key insights, and our predictive chances for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ - Canada, Mexico and the United States I'd love to hear more thoughts on the current state of South African Football Association and what you'd like to see looking forward to AFCON 2025 in Morocco and the World Cup?
